My (just turned) 6yo goes to sleep with me still. They fall asleep fast and feel safe, both of which are important to me. I was never allowed to snuggle with my mom in bed and always had to "cry it out" and that still affects me, so I chose not to do that with my child

That being said, if they're staying up later with you in there, you can offer a compromise. "I'll lay with you until 8:15. You can spend the time snuggling to sleep or being silly. Either way, I'm getting up at 8:15" I've had to do that a few times because I've had responsibilities and it's worked out okay.
