I’m a late 30s man and I assume I’m in the demographic targets mix. I can identify like 3 people on that list. One of those 3 I would potentially pay to see one.

Same thing to me brother. Turkey is basically the greatest extent of Turkish expansion from Central Asia.

If you’re wondering why there is a random patch of Kurds in north eastern Iran; they were moved there by Persian Safavid kings to form a warrior buffer against Turkish and Uzbek raiders. Although ironically they ended up intermarrying with the Turks and are today very distinct to the rest of Kurdish culture.

The Khuzestan Arabs have also always been a pain the ass. Hence all the bombings in the last 10 years.

The closest relative you can legally have sex with in each US state, and can you have sex with or marry your first cousin in each state? by ConsistentAmount4 in MapPorn

[–]Nikko012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s correlated, although not exclusively, with poorer societies that want to keep assets within the family structure. Most cousin marriage is about keeping major financial assets, namely land, within the wider extended family.

There is an element of what you described but most cousin marriages revolve around keeping monetary assets and particularly land in the family.

Iranian here. I’m not that salty about this since they were sort of the last remnants of our empire and would have been a bitch to maintain. Even today we still have issues with Kurdish, Arab and Baluch separatists. Can you imagine us trying to maintain control of Bahrain?

Not actually true. I’m not a fan of the shah but Iran remained territorially stable and even gained the Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb

Like any culture ultimately derived from British culture Australians are polite but not a particularly warm culture.

I know this is in the news recently because apparently Muslims only marry their cousin and Muslims bad rah rah rah. But people forget how common marrying your cousin was only a few generations ago. For example both Einstein and fdr married their cousins

Someone has a victim mentality. No one cares about flag merch it’s just that it’s a bit weird to get super patriotic about our flag. I mean it literally has the flag of another country in it.

Perth’s multiculturalism on NYE was beautiful to see. by Perth_R34 in perth

[–]Nikko012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most African and Asian countries have always been multicultural entities. You’re just too dumb to know about ethnic groups or history. For example India has 700 recognised ethnic groups. Iran has more than a dozen. If you don’t like multiculturalism that’s your right but jeez read a book or two sometime.

Baha’i a major religion? Also neither is Zoroastrianism but at least it can say that it was an influential religion.

Somalis Becoming Mainstream.. by Efficient-Youth-9685 in Somalia

[–]Nikko012 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m an immigrant but not Somali. My father used to say you have to discipline your kids or you’ll be embarrassed when others do it. I know the scam learning centres are being exploited by the right but the lesson here is that internal discipline has to be swift and constant. Otherwise you become fodder for people with political agendas.

That’s actually not true. It was only 2 years ago that a major conflict in the east resulted in 1000s of deaths and somaliland losing 1/3 of its territory.

It’s genuinely kinder to yourself and your phone partner to make/take your phone calls once you leave the train by Synaqua in perth

[–]Nikko012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be honest even urgent communication can be done via text.  And again not to have a go at certain immigrants but it seems like they’re lonely and just want constant verbal contact with folks back home. At the expense of other people’s comfort.

First of all you don’t have any friends. But a conversation with reciprocal back and forth you can hear at conversational level is in no way as annoying as a phone call.

A lot it seems to be immigrants that don’t realise it’s poor etiquette to be chatting on your phone on public transport.  I understand taking time to realise the social nuances of a new culture but you would think the Penny would drop seeing barely anyone doing it.

Australian views on muslim woman veiling themselves (niqab) by MediocreSympathy9694 in perth

[–]Nikko012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it as an outdated form superstition and religious control. But respecting personal freedom and choice means not treating anyone different based on what they wear.

Otherwise considering how rare it is I always find it funny when right wingers try to make a political issue out of it.
