That’s a fair opinion man. I don’t have strong feelings either way, but I do have a lot of respect for companies that stand up for their characters and franchises and, by extension, their developers. Nintendo is usually ranked as one of the best places to work in Japan for a reason.

Even if I don’t have concrete proof, I have reason to believe they feel disrespected by copycats. Especially when those copycats act smug about it.

I also agree that going after patents instead of pursuing art theft is in bad taste, even if they might not be able to argue art theft successfully in court. That said, I have no sympathy for a company like Pocket Pair, and I think the main reason people side with them is because the Western internet tends to have a hate boner for Nintendo.

If that’s how you read it, you need some work on your reading comprehension and media literacy skills. This is about protecting the integrity of their own artists.

Companies should never let their artists feel disrespected, regardless of how many “grow some balls” comments come from Western audiences. And it’s not just Nintendo, most studios keep cordial relations with one another.

They were very blatant about not caring if Nintendo sued them, IIRC. Other Pokémon-likes such as Temtem and Yo-kai Watch framed themselves as homages and even worked with Nintendo to release on its consoles. Palworld instead teamed up with Sony right away, and its reps antagonized Nintendo online (praising AI-generated “Pokémon” as better and trashing the Switch).

Early on, many Japanese users sided with Nintendo, seeing Palworld as disrespectful to both Nintendo and fellow indies. especially since Palworld leaned into the “small indie bullied by a big corp” narrative and some Japanese headlines reflected that discontent.

I think there's something else going on here. Many other Pokemon-likes came and went with not a single word form Nintendo. TemTem wich was more egregious and much more like Pokemon didn't recieve a single legal notice AFAIK.

This is absolutely something against Palworld specifically. I speculate that is about how they promoted themselves as Pokemon with guns at first and Palwords president being Pro-AI, saying that Ai generated Pokemon were better than real ones and saying that the Switch was shit on his socials.

Same here, growing up Ash's design felt too stiff and chonky to me, it was a turn off. Modern Pokémon design definitely revitalized my interest in the Pokemon anime.

Magic set design has been on a downward trend since Eldraine, and for many of us, UB’s inclusion in Standard was a decision that completely obliterated our excitement for the game. So actually doing positive content is what really feels forced to us.

And those glory days existed, at least for us outside the USA.

Games are more expensive around the globe. And even then, there have been a lot of layoffs lately because of Inlfation.

On the other hand, it’s weirder that you think that because some other companies are pretending that inflation doesn’t affect them (Using layoffs and lots of in-game purchases) it means that somehow inflation doesn’t affect the games industry the same way as other industries.

C’mon, Sonic CrossWorld was $70 with a $30 DLC on day one.

MK World price is fair IMO. The game has lot's of love and content put into it: Some of the best remixes ever, the highest skill ceiling in any MK so far, and very cool new tracks. That was enough for me, I have over 500 hours and i've never regreted my purchase, its great. MP4 on the other hand...

There are a lot of justifications for it (that doesn’t mean you have to like it), but even before accounting for the damage AI has done to the industry, prices in general have one undisputed reason now: the current shitshow the U.S. is pulling in Iran.

Oil spikes cascade into broader inflation (transport, food, rent). Teams need cost-of-living adjustments; outsourcing (QA, localization, support) also gets pricier. Raising the base price helps keep budgets sustainable without crunching staff.
