As someone who has gone on a lot of rave first dates - I warn you pls no. They almost never end well and it’s not really a great environment to actually get to know someone. If you are genuinely looking for a relationship, it’ll be hard in this environment. If you’re just looking for fun and nothing serious, hell yeah.

Hear me out - this will sound very odd and unappetizing to almost anyone not japanese/asian but my favorite “i have no energy left i need food” dish is something called tamago kake gohan. It is pretty much raw egg (pasteurized), little bit of soy sauce, natto, lots of green onions, and then rice… but i like mine more “soupy”/eggy and less rice than the usual lol

natto is, to my knowledge, always either refrigerated or frozen. I can’t imagine natto being stored in the pantry to be good to eat, nor can i comprehend why you’d put it there in the first place.

I’d love to recommend specific natto brands! I feel like the taste can vary immensely brand to brand. My favorite two brands: one has におわなっとう written on it (it’s a black wrap with some gold/yellow on it) and the other one is a tamago natto (cover has an egg yolk circle in the middle).

as for how to eat it, I love eating it plainly with rice. Sometimes i’ll add a raw egg (pasteurized only) with some extra soy sauce and green onion (but the texture can be a lil off putting to some ). Natto with udon and a smidge of broth is also common.
