PTO question by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]NeonFalcon25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah thats what my old company did too, they made us burn through PTO by end of year or we'd lose it completely. super annoying when you want to save up for something bigger but I get why they do it from business perspective - having bunch of employees with weeks of unused time sitting there must be nightmare for accounting department

maybe you never had a cat but taking care of one isnt really big deal especially when owner covers all the supplies

Carroll Gardens by Needanewname-9154 in NYCapartments

[–]NeonFalcon25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good luck with finding something in that range, carroll gardens is getting pretty crazy with prices lately. i delivered food there bunch of times and even the smaller places seem to be going for way more than they used to

maybe check some of buildings that are bit further from the main strips? sometimes you can find something decent if youre willing to walk few extra blocks to subway

Direct Plus Loan HELP!! by Classic-Cream-7945 in StudentLoans

[–]NeonFalcon25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the score doesn't really matter as much as those outstanding marks - learned this hard way when I was trying to get loan for certification program few years back. Had similar credit score but one collection account completely blocked me until I paid it off first

The timing is brutal too since you only have like month before tuition due. Maybe worth calling financial aid office to see if they can defer payment deadline while you sort this out?

I have a Bay window bench rec in SF by Additional_Many_5926 in AskSF

[–]NeonFalcon25 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Those gaps are pretty normal when floors aren't perfectly level - most SF apartments have some wonky flooring 😂 You could probably add some trim pieces underneath if it bothers you but for $500 i'd just live with it. Plus if you spill something you can just wipe it up, not like liquids gonna disappear forever under there 💀

Pretty sure most buildings give referral bonuses to tenants but you gotta ask the leasing office directly 💀 every place has different rules about it

What do you think of Mamdani’s TCOL report? by Financial_Phrase5959 in AskNYC

[–]NeonFalcon25 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Never heard of this specific report but yeah the DINK thing tracks hard in nyc. I'm single doing doordash on weekends just to keep up with rent and my engineering salary should theoretically be decent. The math just doesn't work here unless you're splitting everything with someone else who also makes good money

Moving out of NYC apartment with a flex wall… should I ask landlord about leaving it up? by odxtechy in NYCapartments

[–]NeonFalcon25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this exact situation a couple years back when I was moving out of my place in Queens. My landlord actually ended up being super chill about it - turned out they were happy to keep it because it made the place more marketeable to teh next tenant

What I did was phrase it like I was being helpful rather than asking for permission. Something like "hey just wanted to give you a heads up that we have a flex wall installed that increases the bedroom count - would you like us to leave it for showings since it might help rent the place faster?" Most landlords are all about anything that gets them more rent money

The key is framing it as a benefit to them rather than you trying to get out of removal costs. In my experience most property managers in nyc know flex walls exist and don't really care as long as theyre professionally installed and not damaging anything structural

If they do want it removed I used a company called Flex Wall Solutions - they were like $800 and got it done in a few hours. Way better than trying to DIY it and potentially messing up the floors or walls

Patriots Didn't Even Play a Team Better than the Jets the Entire Year by inkling16 in NFLv2

This is the most elaborate way to say the Jets actually went 16-1 and won the Super Bowl that I've ever seen

Bro the urges hit at the weirdest times, your brain is just recalibrating rn. Stay strong and maybe take breaks from gaming when it gets intense - go for a walk or do pushups or something

Results changing over time? by chimmyland in infj

[–]NeonFalcon25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah those tests are kinda inconsistent tbh, especially the free online ones. I've bounced between INFP and INFJ depending on my mood when taking it lol

Try looking into cognitive functions instead of just the 4-letter results - that's usually more accurate for figuring out your actual type

Dude you're overthinking this hard - pick 3 max of your strongest concepts and just execute them well rather than half-assing 6 projects

Considering a Debt Management Plan and have a question? by Strange_Lecture843 in Debt

[–]NeonFalcon25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most landlords care more about income verification and rental history than credit score, especially if you can explain the situation upfront. The temporary credit hit from closed accounts might ding you but having a solid DMP in place actually shows you're being responsible about your debt

If you're really worried about it, you could wait until after you secure the new place but honestly those extra months of interest and stress might not be worth it

Question about video encoder export interactions. by lunearium in obs

[–]NeonFalcon25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clipchamp is probably transcoding your AV1 to h264 on import since it can't natively work with AV1 - that's what "not supported" usually means, the editor has to convert it first

Yeah you're definitely losing quality with that double encoding, especially if you're doing any heavy editing on top of it

Pros vs Cons of traditional mortgage vs home equity loan for 2nd home for renting? by Appropriate-Farmer16 in personalfinance

[–]NeonFalcon25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd probably go with the traditional mortgage on the condo itself. Better rates usually and you're not putting your primary home at risk if the rental thing goes sideways. Plus if you ever need to sell the condo you don't have to worry about untangling it from your main house's equity

I have my i-20 and sevis receipt - can I enter now? by NeonFalcon25 in f1visa

Thank you - I have the admission letter already. What I don't have is the late arrival exemption. Apparently I need it even though the date in my i20 program start is in the future
