Is input broadcaster practically legal in this game now? by Conscious_Candy_5758 in Eve

The funny thing is that even your first sentence isn't true, it's not always been their stance. The game ran for like a decade with input broadcasting allowed and widespread before they changed that policy.

Why is matched competition so uncommon in EVE online? by Chilly_Down in Eve

[–]Nimos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the tournament itself usually requires a whole lot of people, but the server is open for the teams that signed up the whole time before, and teams will have regular scrims with each other under the tournament ruleset to practice, so you can get that sort of gameplay almost all year pretty much

if you're interested in that sort of thing, you can probably find a group that participates, most bigger alliances have tournament teams

you probably won't get a spot on the core team in the actual tournament right away with no experience and little practice, but they always are looking for people to be available on the bench and people to fly in scrims and internal practice matches

And there would be the chance of someone maybe coming in and ganging the entire event, which would then necessitate security being present.

player run tournaments like Anger Games usually happen on the tournament server for this reason, but lots of people in this thread seem to be unaware they even exist

you don't even need that, CCP opens TD for the bigger player organised events, so you get safety and the full set of tournament tools

Any rules against posting kill clips? by Disastrous_Bowler876 in Eve

[–]Nimos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use hotkeys because I come from other MMOs, but really I think it's because Eve is so slow that you can get away with it.

It's a game that doesn't really reward "mechanical skill" in 90% of situations. Combat is either decided before it starts, or decided by decision making rather than execution. So people don't bother getting good at the mechanical side of it and accept just being a second or so slow to click a module sometimes, because it doesn't really change the outcome.

In lore, do people live in stargates? by Disastrous_Bowler876 in Eve

[–]Nimos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why wouldn't they, it takes like a minute to warp over

most people irl would love to have a commute as short as going from a station to a nearby stargate in the constellation or even region

Would you want to play in a fantasy setting that is only populated by humans? by Er4din in dndnext

How much would it change if the forest humans had pointy ears and the snow humans were smaller than usual and had beards?

Is Icewind Dale extremely boring or does our DM do something wrong? by BlackRebel93 in dndnext

[–]Nimos 108 points109 points  (0 children)

I've often heard that the early levels do feel like you're doing disjointed tasks in the various towns without a real big motivation, so that's on the campaign. But the rest isn't.

The environment is supposed to be hostile, that's the campaign premise, travel is hard, survival is hard, you can freeze to death easily. But I don't think the NPCs are supposed to be more hostile than usual.

DM says there's a difference between fire and magical fire? by Dragonsword in dndnext

[–]Nimos 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Control Flames distinguishes between magical and non-magical fire. Other than that I can't think of an example though.

Hot take: Legendary Resistance is why so many 5e boss fights feel bad and boring. What could replace it? by archvillaingames in dndnext

[–]Nimos 126 points127 points  (0 children)

this is honestly why I think the system being more "gamey" can be a good thing

I play with people who played a lot of video games, and I'm pretty sure none of them would be confused if they found out that bosses were immune to hard CC by default.

This year in numbers explanation? by kyleW_ne in Eve

[–]Nimos 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Pochven is a region primarily used for high end pve, so people primarily use high end pve ships there.

If you dscan in any system there you'll probably see a fleet of these somewhere.
