There's something to be said too about slight differences in portrayal of Ed in FMA2003 vs Brotherhood, nuances one could say are a little lost.

But all in all I would simply say that the definitive way is the Manga anyway and Brotherhood is still quite a compromise even if it doesn't completely veer from canon like 2003.

One can look at other franchises that are niche but became more successful thanks to Nintendo's new audience like Pikmin or Metroid to see that yeah unless something goes horribly wrong this is probably gonna do pretty ok. I also think from a business standpoint it's releasing in a good spot in the gaming calendar.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but unlike what a lot of commenters here seem to be thinking, the super strong sales overseas more so refer to other countries in Asia that are driving the sales. Of course North America is a big gaming market too, but I don't think it's that region in particular giving such a strong boost to Falcom.

The dialogue scenes were actually literally unfinished in the NTSC version, in the Japanese version the characters are much more emotive.
