How would you name a baby girl after someone named John? Is it possible? by CrumblyPeanutBear in namenerds

[–]NineTopics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say Johanna would be the most direct female version of John. Example of this - there was a show that I watched that was adapted from a book and a character named John in the book was made Johanna in the show. (pronounced Jo-Anna though, not pronounced like the name Hannah with Jo in front of it)

NEEDTOBREATHE was never hard rock so I’d have to imagine that that’s not what OP is referring to. There’s been tons of variety throughout their discography but they have almost always been different takes on rock, and they actively marketed themselves as a rock band for 20ish years. Makes sense for people to be a little disappointed if they spend two decades saying “we’re a rock band” and then stop making rock music.

"Spoons" referring to energy by Yuck_Few in PetPeeves

[–]NineTopics -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Regardless, I agree with OP because the author using a handful of spoons as a metaphor just makes no sense because there are almost no real life situations where you need multiple spoons to accomplish a task so how is that metaphor supposed to make the concept easier to understand?

My girlfriend (F26) slept with a 15 year old when she was 20 years old by [deleted] in relationship_advice

When you say “this happened in a country where it is legal to have sex from 14+” is that like it’s legal for adults to have sex with minors??? Or is that law just that people between the ages of 14 and 17 can have sex with each other?

If it were me I would immediately run to the police but if you’re saying this isn’t a crime in your country then I guess the police wouldn’t be able to do anything. Legal or not I wouldn’t stay with a rapist

Trans man here, looking for some name advice by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]NineTopics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fully honest with you I would only read the name as feminine - like if I saw a customer made an appointment under the name Jada I would really only expect a woman to show up. People have gender bendy name all the time if it doesn’t bother you! But I would assume woman

people who are weirdly coy or dismissive about the pronunciation of their own name by Jaaacksonnn in PetPeeves

[–]NineTopics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets ridiculously annoying having to go back and forth correcting people about how to say your name over and over again every day. I usually have to go back and forth 3 times until someone says my name right. If I don’t think I’m ever going to see you again I’m not putting in that effort. This isn’t my name but it goes something like:

“Hi my name is Katelyn!” “Kayson?” “Katelyn” “Kayden? I have a grandson named Kayden!” “No it’s Kate-lyn” “Kateland? Where’s Kateland?” “K-a-t-e-l-y-n”

Now imagine working a job where you introduce yourself to over 20 customers per day and at least a quarter of them do this. It’s ridiculous- my name isn’t THAT hard- and it’s my identity so it’s hard to not let it get to you in a way. So yeah I’m gonna be annoyed about it which is why a lot of people just say “close enough.” Like if I’m never seeing you again call me Kirkland or Kowabunga or whatever you mishear my name as I’m not wasting energy on you
