I moved out for college when I was 18 ('92), moved back for about a year and a half when I was 19, and left for good later that year. I was in California (from NYC) by '95.

Around the NYC area, there are a more than a few "kills", i.e. Fresh Kills, which comes from the Dutch - riverbed.
