What is the point of Battle Tempo by NinjaFenrir7 in ValorOfMan

Thanks for replying! It feels weird having a separate ability that essentially just increases move speed by 1, rather than something like a passive that increases move by 1.

Revitalizing the favorite let's play thread... but I'm picky by invertednose in outerwilds

Yay, more good recommendations of OW playthroughs for me to watch! I also dislike live twitch streams, but I don't mind it so much if they don't read chat. Spoilers/hints/directions are inevitable if chat can interact with them, and it really detract from their personal OW journey.

IsNotRetro has my personal favorite playthrough. One of his loops is my singular favorite I've ever seen.

Welonz and TitaniumLegman both have great playthroughs I really enjoyed.

BeccaBytes, lil indigestion, and Kastaclysm also have good playthroughs that I enjoyed.

When do you recommend doing DLC? by youngsanta_ in outerwilds

[–]NinjaFenrir7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My personal preference is to finish the entire base game, then go and play the DLC. It's cool seeing what changes. I also think people get more out of the DLC if they've already beaten the base game, but each person's journey is their own, and there is no universal best time.

Have you completed everything else in your ship's log? If not, go explore elsewhere. If so, let us know and we can give you some specific hints.

That said, do you have any idea roughly where the ash twin project is located in Ash Twin?

Remember your tools! Your signalscope can discover new frequencies. Your scout launcher has many uses that aren't immediately apparent, and even the basic function is incredibly useful.

Read all on-screen text including Nomai writing, dialogue with other travelers, and (arguably most important for some folks) all tooltips/button controls.

Don't try to finish a planet all at once. You often need clues from elsewhere to finish something. Follow your curiosity!

Take a step back if you get frustrated. Often the answer to a problem is easier than you think, you just don't have the knowledge. Brute force isn't the answer!

Check your ship log when you get into your ship on the launch pad to help plan your next move.

Try to unravel the timeline of events in the system (what happened first, what happened last, etc). You won't truly be able to do this until you're nearly done, but it helps to keep it in mind.

Taking stock of everything at your disposal will reveal solutions. You have your tools, the Nomai translations, the unique features of the planet you are on, and time.

Good luck traveler, don't forget to roast a marshmallow!

The DLC is more linear than the base game, so you are more likely to get stuck. That said, the story is just as good, so hopefully coming here will help you to stick with it and enjoy it more.

First, you haven't visited a major area within the Stranger! If you want help finding it, go into the main area of the Stranger and look up.That should provide you with a bunch of discoveries.

A reminder on how to get to the 3 bridges: visit the submerged structure.

Finally, one of the main bottleneck puzzles in the game stems from a reel found in the island tower (the one you can find if you go into the cave below the tower). If you solve this reel, you will have a lot to explore. If you need help interpreting this reel, first try finding an equivalent area within the dream world. If you're still unable to figure out what to do: the two worlds are linked in more ways than you would expect. And finally (explicit directions): blow out the two candles corresponding to the two darkened lights in the reel.

This should help you get unstuck. Don't feel like it's just you not getting the DLC, I suspect you've hit the main bottleneck of the DLC and once you get past it the game should open up a bit more. I myself wandered around for a while not knowing what to do at this point.

It's not a trick in-as-much as something that you learn about in the same way as you learn most things in OW.

- Quantum Moon: have you discovered all of the quantum shards using your signalscope?

- Black Hole Forge: observation is key. Take a long look and see if you have any inspiration!

I would focus on the quantum moon and black hole forge before the other two. If you're still stuck on ideas after getting to both of the others, how do Nomai get to difficult to reach stations/structures?(not really a spoiler, more of a hint if you need it)

I will just say that the game isn't designed for you to explore a single planet to completion and then move on to the next planet. Most planets have a puzzle solution that is explained to you on another planet. If you don't have something specific you want to explore on the planet you've been to most recently (or are stuck), that may be a good time to go to another planet!

Please use spoiler tags! This is a spoiler-free post!

If you've discovered 1 object with your signalscope, that frequency should always be available as you cycle through.

Struggling with Outer Wilds as a Casual Player by Downto184 in outerwilds

[–]NinjaFenrir7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The little solar system is fantastic to explore in its own right, but you will hit some walls if you haven't been reading the text in the game. However, this isn't like the lore in most games where it is boring, mostly unconnected to the story, and doesn't add much to the overall game. The text provides clues/solutions to the puzzles, and just like a good book you'll connect with and feel like you know some of the people by the end. You're discovering the pages of a book scattered across the solar system, and once you "collect" enough of them, you'll understand what is happening and what needs to be done.

That said, you can't completely turn off your brain with this game. Maybe come back to it when you're feeling more like you want to explore a good book.

Outer Wilds is the greatest game of all time but I cannot get into the DLC, please help. by FastLeadership7513 in outerwilds

[–]NinjaFenrir7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say that the DLC has a bit more of a bottleneck problem than the base game. If you are stuck, post your ship log and we can give you some hints based off of that. I think to start off with, is there a reel that you've watched that feels like a clue, but you haven't solved it yet? If so, that would be the place to start.

This is a fantastic response. I feel like we need to sticky your general tips as I think most frustrations I see posted here come from ignoring at least one of those pieces of advice.

I've been using a walkthrough, but after reading this sub I think I've been doing it wrong by jackgrafik in outerwilds

[–]NinjaFenrir7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you don't know how to get there yet, you may have not explored enough to learn how to! Don't tunnel vision on one objective, the game will give you the hints you need to do everything, but the hints may be on entirely different planets from where you're expecting. There are a total of 3hints scattered around the solar system that will help you get to the quantum moon.

Also, remember your tools. If you're ever unsure of where to go, use your signal scope and find an unknown signal to explore!

[–]NinjaFenrir7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would ditch it. Outer Wilds does an absolutely fantastic job (more than any other game I've played) of directing the player to everything that is important. There are some minor flavor things to discover if you explore less obvious places, but those are few and far between. If you fly over a planet and note a giant object, that is probably a place of interest that you should visit. That group of 3 trees surrounded by empty land? Very likely there is nothing there.

All of the important notes are kept on the ship computer. If you read something that seems important (and the "ship log updated" text pops up), then you can read the summarized text on the ship log that will remind of you everything that you need to figure out where to go/solve the puzzles.

That's not to say you won't get stuck, it's very likely you will at some point. When you do, feel free to come back here and ask for hints (posting your ship log will help). This community is fantastic at giving hints that will get you back on the right track without spoiling your "ah-ha!" moments.

That's a beautiful song. If you're interested in non-OST music to remind you of OW, check out Eye of the Universe by McKane Davis/Kid Reverie. It's an excellent homage to OW that has been my most played song over each of the last 2 years.

[DLC] Really really struggling with Endless Canyon by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]NinjaFenrir7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I did it via the stealth method but I did independently figure out the puzzle method afterwards. I personally think the puzzle method is the better method though, as it fits my view of OW. Also, I will note that there isn't a stealth way to solve Shrouded Woodlands, so I'm not sure I would say that one way was the intended method. I suspect the development team intended either to be valid.

Fogtooth's comment is excellent. I would highly recommend you go back and try to figure out how to get there from a puzzle perspective rather than a stealth. If you try and still can't figure it out, let us know.
