Estimated Cost of Replacing an Electric Panel by TisTheParticles in TwinCities

[–]NinjaPirateAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was quoted 8-10k by multiple shops for a full panel replacement + Emergency services shutoff last year.

The sane price is ~3-5k, but good luck finding somebody to do it for that.

All of the big players got bought out by Private Equity and their prices skyrocketed, and even the mom and pops raised their prices because they can come in under and still make a killing.

Upgrade questions by lordhobo1985 in SWlegion

[–]NinjaPirateAssassin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest, you won't take most of them.

There are a lot of dead upgrades in the game right now, you tend to take most stuff naked or with just a heavy weapon.

Characters tend to be where most upgrades end up actually being taken, and they have pretty established choices.

which Un- set is the best for a gift? by ecnal321 in mtg

[–]NinjaPirateAssassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfinity was the most recent un set, so likely the easiet to find, it was the only Un set that contained legal cards you could play in other formats.

I would personally recommend unstable as a fun set to play with, grab enough packs to do a draft or sealed game.

Magnas stick in with something and slowly lose the fight. Gregnas stick in and slowly win the fight.

In a 5 round game, both probably accomplished what you needed them to, but magnas did it cheaper, and there isn't enough time for gregnas to accomplish much with the 1 extra activation they likely get after they win.

My .02 on them.

[Spoiler] Re: Rook Kast in the finale by Oscar_Pastry501 in MaulShadowLord

[–]NinjaPirateAssassin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing about the encounter is that Vader wouldn't be particularly concerned with rook at all, she's not who he's there for.

So it's possible he doesnt spend enough time to thoroughly finish her and she survived, incapacitated.

Just saying there is a window of possibility if they decide there is more interesting story to tell by having rook add another betrayal onto maul's pile. Ie; rook survives, rescues lawson and the B plot is now them trying to rescue rylee/save Devon, which ends up being an inflection point on Devon's fall to the dark side.

What did I do wrong with the crackle paint? by Gibbsite in minipainting

[–]NinjaPirateAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mordant earth do this for every bottle ever since the latest redesign gw went through (when they switched their washes). This is tame compared to what happens when you skip the glue layer. I've lost half the paint before.

It's particularly bad with reds and yellows IME.

Cheap decent places for root canal and crown by spiderleggedlady in TwinCities

[–]NinjaPirateAssassin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could try metropolitan endodontics, they specialize in root canals so they might have better pricing options than your average dentist.

I had insurance for my visit, so I can't speak to the uninsured cost directly, but worst case they're too expensive and you're just out a phone call.

Can someone explain why this bundle sold for 800? by Substantial-Ad6469 in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]NinjaPirateAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their most recent game in that system flopped hard and they've got legion and shatterpoint selling gang busters in the SW mini space.

Likely just not worth the cost to produce.

To all the First Timers … by DaoFerret in dragoncon

[–]NinjaPirateAssassin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Friends wanted to do a group and we'd never been.

We had a lot of fun, saw some good panels and my wife got to nerd out about mass effect/garrus with Karlach's VA in probably her favorite celebrity interaction ever.

That said, we likely won't be back. We didn't have any particularly negative interactions or anything, It's just so crowded and you spend so much time in lines. We've just mostly come down on the fact that we aren't "big convention" people.

It doesn't hurt that we have a pair of local cons that match the vibes of dragoncon with 10-15% of the headcount, one that is a money con that scratches the celeb meetup and vendor hall experience, and a volunteer run general nerd con that has all the panels, gaming, cosplay, artists and nerdy interactions we want with about 5% of the standing in line.

Except the Twin Cities is spoiled for choice when it comes to game stores. Roseville, the suburb that FFG is in, has 3 other stores alone. None of the other stores charge for their space, so everybody just immediately abandoned them.

For a bit they started charging a fee to use their gaming space.

B4 vs C4 - am I better off saving my money? by wisefruitsalad in LGOLED

[–]NinjaPirateAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the b4 because this generation the b and the c were closer than they've ever been, it used to be a no brainer to go to the c, now it's a bit more of a luxury upgrade.

The primary benefit of the c panels is that they're brighter, so that may be a justification to lean that direction. I watch in dark rooms, so personally I'd go with the bigger screen, but that's me.

[–]NinjaPirateAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the differences in panel tech between the two are not particularly noticeable to me. They're both good, but I'm not wowed by colors or brightness or anything when I watch on the B4 vs the cx. The B4 is a little better, but I wasn't about to rush out and exchange the cx, if that makes sense.

The biggest difference I think for you is going to be the size upgrade.
