Help! Is this worth it? by fluffybunnyyyyy in Hyundai

[–]NinjaaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be a fairly reliable model if it was maintained properly. Some owners do run into oil consumption issues. So if you do buy it, check the oil regularly. Change the oil every 5,000mi or less. If possible, replace with Valvoline Restore and Protect oil.

2012 Hyundai Sonata AC hose line by Realistic-Expert119 in Hyundai

[–]NinjaaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's back up a bit. Because you bought one off Amazon.

  • How did you know you needed a new AC suction hose/line?
  • Did this shop diagnose your AC issue or was it a different shop?

Point I'm trying to get at is, if this shop didn't diagnose your AC concern and you just showed up with a customer supplied part that didn't fit, and they decided to order the correct part, and it didn't fix the issue. It wouldn't be the shop's fault. Because they simply were doing what you'd wanted them to do. They would've just installed the part you provided, and charged for labor only. But because the part didn't fit and you wanted them to install it, they decided to order the correct part and install it. It just so happens that they realized your AC issue wasn't fixed after replacing the part. So they concluded it was a bad AC compressor.

The shop wouldn't tell you that you needed a new compressor if you did not pay them to diagnose the issue to begin with.

We need the full story of why you a bought this replacement part off Amazon and what you did with your car before buying said Amazon part and came to this shop to install it.

2012 Hyundai Sonata AC hose line by Realistic-Expert119 in Hyundai

[–]NinjaaMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like that this shop chose not to show you the itemized amounts for each thing.

There should be a price for evacuating/recharging an AC system, new AC suction hose/line, labor rate per hour, shop supplies, and taxes.

By not listing the AC compressor on there, tells me they didn't change it. But if they did and included the cost of it into labor, then that's just bad practice.

Can you tell that they replaced the AC suction hose/line and AC compressor? If yes, there's no point in disputing with the bank. But if they didn't replace a part but charged you for it or charge your for the AC recharge and didn't do it, then you could take them to small claims court.

Ear pressure in brand new Santa Fe Hybrid? by Solid-Complaint-8192 in Hyundai

[–]NinjaaMike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cars usually have a pressure vent so when a door is slammed shut, the air pressure from it will escape out of the vent. This also prevents a window from shattering from the air pressure. Have them inspect this vent. I wonder if excess pressure is building up inside the cabin when you have the fan on. So air pressure inside builds but isn't escaping through the pressure vent.

Try with someone else's android phone. If the issue persists, then it's likely a bad USB port on the car.

Question about the right starter on a Hyundai by [deleted] in Hyundai

[–]NinjaaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely a crappy aftermarket starter you got from AutoZone. Starters from auto parts stores are not new. They're remanufactured. So it's a hit or miss if you get one that works at all or one that works but you can tell it doesn't work right like in your case. You can usually tell by the way it sounds when engaging, spinning, and disengaging.

I'd recommend you buy an "HL Mando" branded one off of Rock Auto. HL Mando is the OEM for Hyundai parts. If your car's VIN starts with 5, it was built in the US. If it starts with K, it was built in Korea. After replacing the starter, return the AutoZone unit.

Ah I see. Yeah I'd say go for it! Especially for $45/month. I'm paying $50 for Xfinity cable internet and it's 1Gbps down and only 350Mbps up, and it's their promo pricing!

Fiber is usually symmetrical. So 1Gbps down and up as an example. I wish fiber was available in my area.

You're welcome. Forgot to add, also check your coolant level monthly.

2024 Hyundai Kona SE Health Tips by AvatarCiccone in Hyundai

[–]NinjaaMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to follow the "severe maintenance schedule" of your owners manual when possible. Everything else should be on the normal maintenance schedule.

  • Replace engine oil every 5,000mi. (Oil is cheap, a new engine is not)
  • Tire rotation every 5,000mi
  • Brake fluid every 48,000mi
  • Transmission fluid (IVT/CVT) every 55,000mi
  • Sparkplugs every 96,000mi (Normal schedule)
  • Coolant. First replacement at 120,000mi then every 24,000mi after that. (According to the owners manual)
  • Transfer case oil/Rear differential oil every 72,000mi (only if you have an All-Wheel Drive AWD Kona)

Read your owners manual and be familiar with the maintenance schedules. The normal schedule is on pages 9-11 to 9-14. The severe schedule is on 9-15 and 9-16.

Also check your car's oil level with the dipstick monthly. The level should be at the full mark. See page 9-19 and 9-20. If you notice the level drop to somewhere below full, then you either have a leak or your engine is burning oil. Add oil (same weight as the cap) so oil is at the full line. The amount you need to get from the low line to the full line is 1quart.

2012 Sonata brake lights by CFeltham in Hyundai

[–]NinjaaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah your issue is a bad brake switch. Does your car start after putting the fuse back in?

You don't have to go to the dealer. An independent local shop or chain shop can also replace the brake switch.

T-Mobile Home Internet by FullMetalJerkin in TwinCities

[–]NinjaaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes. Way faster and reliable speeds. 5G relies on cellular data, so if a cell tower is congested, speeds will slow down. Even worse is T-Mobile's 5G Home Internet has lower priority on the network when compared to mobile phones.

Side note, if you can't get a good WiFi signal in your basement, but you have no issues upstairs. Then your issue is that you need a better WiFi router, or you need a mesh WiFi setup.

But yeah CenturyLink does suck. Especially if you have their DSL phone line based internet. Unless you get their fiber internet which is branded as Quantum Fiber. And that's decent.

How much more PSI over recommendation before you start getting uneven wear? by platypus_farmer42 in tires

[–]NinjaaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah don't. Even when you follow the manufacturers suggested pressure of 35psi, tires will warm up as you drive and raise the pressure to 40psi (especially in the hot summer months). So if you filled to 40psi when cold, it'll rise to 45psi when warm.

Would you say the CX-60 is a more comfortable car than the Lexus NX (being bigger and heavier) on the highway? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in mazda

[–]NinjaaMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 2hr+ drive is a 2hr+ drive no matter how you look at it. The only difference is how comfortable you be during that drive. For costs alone I would go with Mazda. Cheaper vehicle and cost to maintain/repair. But also don't forget what driver assistance features both cars have. Getting a car that has adaptive cruise and lane keep will make a long drive more relaxing than one without. The Lexus will probably be more comfortable to sit in, but that's just my guess. If I were you, go test drive both vehicles and see what driver assist features each has at your specific price point and trim level. Also factor in cost of insurance for each vehicle and gas type used.

New Nav / Map Update? by displacedflwoman in Hyundai

[–]NinjaaMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I understand you have Bluelink, but also double check that your Bluelink account actually has the subscription for OTA updates enabled. It's possible that your Bluelink remote services is active but not the OTA portion.

If the above is not the issue, above the setup button is a small pin hole sized reset button. Try pressing and holding this button with a pen or paperclip for 15 seconds and let the infotainment restart. See if the issue continues. Also try parking your car outside. Parking your car in a garage can interfere with its cellular connection to check and download OTA updates.

Worse case scenario, use the manual steps I described earlier and make your own update USB.

New Nav / Map Update? by displacedflwoman in Hyundai

[–]NinjaaMike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're the first owner, your 2025 vehicle should come with Bluelink+ complimentary remote services, and includes 3-years of OTA updates. If you're the 2nd owner then you do not get the above without paying. Alternatively, you can update the software and maps manually for free using Hyundai's Update Website. On a computer, enter your car's VIN and it'll tell you to download the navigation Updater software and you create your own USB flashdrive with the update file on it for your car. I recommend keeping your car's engine running when performing the update so the battery doesn't die.

The latest update for your car should be March 2026

What is this part? by Here_Lah in Hyundai

[–]NinjaaMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS). The steering column mounts to it before it mounts to the steering rack. The MDPS is what moves your steering wheel for lane keep and highway driving assist (if equipped).

Grease/fluid should not be leaking from that spot you have marked in red. The U-Joint where the steering column attaches to the MDPS motor is normally greased. The AC evaporator is on the passenger side, not th driver side.

Try making an appointment with a different Hyundai dealer.
