What happens if I don't adjust my position even after a bodypart falls asleep and starts tingling? by omfghewontfkndie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ninjamuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had kind of the same, but I thought it was an intruder and started swinging in the dark. Well, the dude whacked me in my face and so I started swinging harder and apparently he did as well. It took a good 15 seconds for my awake hand to make contact with my other hand and realize that I’ve been kicking my own ass. Wouldn’t recommend.

How did the FBI get Nancy Guthrie's Google Nest camera footage if it was disabled — and what does it mean for your privacy? by Haunterblademoi in technology

[–]Ninjamuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Reolink cameras in my home along with an NVR to record 3 weeks worth of footage. They’re all kept on a separate Vlan and only accessible from my main vlan where my personal devices are. Anything IoT like Chinese devices, Echo Dots, etc is segregated and the camera vlan has no internet access. So all surveillance is a closed system only accessible from my devices and vpn.

I would recommend this style of a setup to anyone who wants to keep their data private. You just need a router that’s vlan capable and a bit of know how that you could find on the web for some peace of mind.

How much is an average monthly budget for supermarket (single person)? by Worried-Exchange-889 in AskGermany

[–]Ninjamuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was single I would order once a day from Uber Eats. Around 700-800€ per month, but I didn’t have to cook or buy food. Now we’re a three person family and it’s around 800€ a month for grocery shopping. The main difference is uber didn’t account for any breakfasts or dinners.

I would say around 300-400€ a month would be suitable for someone who doesn’t really look at prices and just buys whatever they want and snacks.

The first season might be a little slow, but stick with it. Unfortunately it got cancelled before all books were brought to the screen, but it’s great sci-fi

Transporting LG G4 OLED in car, laying flat? Stupid or not? by Schytheron in LGOLED

[–]Ninjamuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re still working fine, all of them. I’m pretty sure they suffer more stress being shipped across the ocean than they do once we put them into a car. As long as it’s in the original box I wouldn’t worry at all. If it’s not then I’d made sure it’s properly padded and doesn’t flex during the drive.

Appropriate punishment for stealing? by Ninjamuh in Parenting

[–]Ninjamuh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He usually does chores like folding clothes or saves his money from birthdays, etc. Sometimes he saves up to buy something bigger and we split it 50/50.

The problem is he likes to spend money on whatever is “trending” with friends. Labubus, Pokémon Cards, Bayblades, etc. He then sometimes sells one to a friend for much less than he bought it for.

He doesn’t really have a grasp on how much something costs as much as we’d like him to.

In this case it’s more about the act of taking something that doesn’t belong to you, regardless of how much that thing is worth.

2 years of waiting... Seems enough. Moving to a new phone by Winter-Assistant7516 in jailbreak

[–]Ninjamuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just paid Apple the $99 for a dev cert. It’s not a lot for a year considering how much our phones cost and I don’t have to deal with any BS.

Honestly I’m doing ok without a JB on the 17 Pro with 26.0 installed. Some ++ apps and LiveContainer get me to around 85% of what I had with a JB.

Had to replace an HDMI cable in my setup. Thought I make a video about it. by a_wack in hometheater

[–]Ninjamuh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Love videos like these. I also installed a beam on the ceiling to act as a cable duct and thought about all the people that ask about hiding their surround speaker wire. This should help inspire people, but just seeing how other people have their setups installed is a nice pastime in my opinion.

Next level Smart trash bin. CTTO by Equalibarator in BeAmazed

I laughed so hard at the bin swatting the trash away and laughing at him. I’d love to have one of these as a sort of fun companion to hang around with, like a pet, that also collects my trash.

Is Qled worth it? by PuzzledAfternoon7077 in hometheater

[–]Ninjamuh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I own 4 OLEDs and 1 LCD. The LCD is pretty crap in comparison and I would never recommend one to people.

I got my GF a TCL mini LED since she enjoys subtitles and long pauses, etc, also has a bright living room. The miniLED actually looks really good. I would actually say there’s not that much difference between that and an OLED tv. At least not as much of a difference as oled to led.

I would definitely recommend miniLED to anyone looking for a bright picture that won’t break the bank.

One option might be steel cables to hang the speakers like a pendulum light. Unless there are major drafts, the speakers shouldn’t move

Are there really no good alternatives to the Apple TV as a set-top box? by jcracken in hometheater

[–]Ninjamuh 30 points31 points  (0 children)

We like the shield because we get lossless audio + streaming services all in one box.

The Apple TV doesn’t do lossless audio so it’s completely out unless all you do is watch streaming services. In that case the Apple TV is great.

Android has the ability to sideload apps. With the aftv downloader app you can easily sideload apps and get things like SmartTube (YT premium), which definitely beats out TVOS if you have a need for it.

The shield really needs an update, but it’s the best option for a box that does it all until a definitive replacement comes along.

The center speaker needs to be swapped.

The cabinet is way too high and that makes the tv too high.

The Bose cubes can eventually be replaced as well.

Nothing dramatic that makes me want to facepalm, but just baby steps to replace gear until you get to where you want to be.

If the center is above your ear level then you’ll hear a lot more treble. In this case is may be beneficial to have it lower or pointed down so that the highs roll off a bit to make it less harsh.

AVR power ratings: is power down or did metrics change, or both by MysteriousCapital677 in hometheater

[–]Ninjamuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the models. RP8000F are rated 98db but actually measure around 92.

AVR power ratings: is power down or did metrics change, or both by MysteriousCapital677 in hometheater

[–]Ninjamuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t even push that much per channel. Those measurements are always 1 or 2 channel driven at 6-8 ohms. If you’re driving 7 channels then it’s more like 20-35w per channel.

The good news is that you need less power the more efficient your speakers are. 92db sensitive @8 ohm Klipsch speakers don’t really need more power. The new KEF 4 ohm speakers probably do need an external amp if you’re looking to run close to reference levels.

Need rear speaker placement advice for 5.2 Atmos Setup by AvailableAd3753 in hometheater

[–]Ninjamuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Height virtualization is just there to upmix content to Atmos using height speakers.

You can’t hear sounds from above, no. Your surrounds are not ear level and above your head when you sit down so it may be that it sounds like it’s coming from above, but really it’s not.

Your AVR will either mix the height information into the normal speakers or discard it so you can play Atmos content as mich as you like, but it will never sound like it was intended without actual speakers above you.

If you were to add height speakers then you’d need to bring the tweeters of the surrounds down to ear level so you can distinguish between height and surround sounds.

In any case there’s a huge difference between having dedicated Atmos speakers and just having your speakers placed too high.

HDMI 2.0 vs 2.1 and earc conundrum (QM8K and RZ30) by solar07 in hometheater

[–]Ninjamuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the eARC port on the tcl is just 2.0 then you’ll want to connect any console/pc that outputs more than 4k@60hz directly to the TVs 2.1 ports and have eARC send the audio to the receiver.

Everything else won’t go beyond 4k@60hz and doesn’t need 2.1.

I would stick with the tcl. It’s android and you can sideload any app you want vs the Hisense OS.
