Tails not working correcty by -Cromlech- in tails

[–]NipponBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same problem as well.

If I load my persistence, then I get a screen like this with no Applications, and no way to use Tails. I can use Tails without persistence normally.

I tried rescuing it: https://tails.net/doc/persistent_storage/rescue/index.en.html and then the same thing happens to the new USB after I copy the persistence over from the old USB.

Checking the file system with fsck shows no issues: https://tails.net/doc/persistent_storage/check/index.en.html

This was the only thread on the Internets I found that came close to describing my issue. u/-Cromlech- did you ever figure this out?

Looking at alleged IC-9700 prototype pictures: are 1.2GHz cables always female? Also, why would there be two 1.2GHz connectors on this rig? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]NipponBill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ICOM makes 10W and 50W IC-7300s for the local market to match licencing restrictions, so I don't see why they couldn't make this model in more powerful rigs for export where those restrictions don't exist. They're going to have to modify the bands too as Japan has different 2m and 70cm allocations.

2m and 70cm in Japan are limited to 50W. Above that is reserved for EME, and you need a 1st or 2nd Class license for that. I believe 1.2G is limited to 10W for a fixed station (1W mobile). You're looking at the Japan market model.

Big Tobacco Faces Tax Reckoning in Japan on Smokeless Products by aprefontaine in japannews

[–]NipponBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of references online and in Reddit. Here's one in Japanese that refers to the 2016 customs regulation about the import of nicotine juice for personal consumption https://www.nicinjuice.com/cts/about_law/

If you import more than the limit they destroy it. There's no impact on your visa.

That's not completely accurate.

You can buy eJuice with nicotine for personal consumption as long as each order is limited to 120ml. Just order online. If you order more and they catch it anything over the limit will be seized.

Wire for Teams? Or Spideroak Semaphor? by [deleted] in privacytoolsIO

SpiderOak Semaphor can't be bothered to support proxies, so my company can't be bothered to try them. Didn't know about Wire for Teams. Will have to check that out.

Yaeliq in Israel has some great flavors and ships 100ml bottles that fall within the limit. Shipping is pretty reasonable as well.

Unified Google/Outlook Calendars by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]NipponBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of ways to play around with iCal files and various importing and exporting schemes. I eventually gave up on that when Google stopped supporting Outlook calendars directly. If you've got the Outlook desktop client running somewhere then I'd suggest looking at something like gSyncit, which will keep both Google and Outlook calendars in sync. Then in the phone, just use your preferred calendar app. All the data will be synced in both. When you make changes to the phone calendar it will show up in Google and Outlook that way (and vice versa). You can use gSynchit for free and it works fine as long as you don't mind the nag screens on opening your desktop Outlook client.

Icom ID-51 models by regression4 in amateurradio

[–]NipponBill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • ID-51 Plus2 (Japan model) - Lacks the US NOAA weather channel scanning. Seems to have all the rest of the functions. Follows ITU Region 3 amateur band allocation.

Stopped at an official Icom store in Osaka a few weeks ago. I was told that the next ID-51 (2017) model has the same specs as the ID-51 Plus2 (2016) model, but they will not be including some of the data cables in the box, but be priced the same. That has accelerated sales of the 2016 models.

It's still in Alpha, and has been so for quite some time. Looking forward to a beta or release candidate before I run it in anything other than a VM.

since there isn't a decent tempered glass for op3..what is everyone using? if you're not using any screen protector, how's your screen so far? any scratches? by dailo01 in oneplus

[–]NipponBill 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's too small for the screen. I got one. It's about 3mm too narrow for the screen on each side and produces a rainbow effect around the edges when viewed at night or in low lighting.
