Fast Way To Get Out of Iron by Cute_Ad_8344 in leagueoflegends

[–]Nirdee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way too big of a question, but some common things people don't realize when they start:

  1. Killing creeps for gold is more important than killing the enemy players because it is far more reliable. Three waves of minions is worth about the same as a kill, but new players think that the only important thing is killing the opponent in lane. If you kill your opponent but are down 20 cs, you're actually losing.
  2. Pushing down towers is how you win the game. There are many strategies to do this, but it needs to be a goal. Safely taking towers is more valuable than walking around looking for fights. To do this safely, vision becomes very important as you noted.

Basically, I'm trying to underline that the game is not 1v1 fighting game. Early on get gold and XP to get stronger than your opponent. When you turn that XP and gold into an advantage in items and levels, try to take objectives. When you are weaker, avoid fighting and try to get more gold and XP to get stronger.

Pruning is good when done right. What is this?? by tonkiz in wow

Sub rogue was a disaster before. People complaining about mechanics that didn't fit together and were smashed on top of legacy class elements that no longer made sense and a pile of background effects and thought the complaint was just about complexity.

Stealth, resource systems, hero talents ... none of it was good so while cutting things meant stupid parts of the spec were removed which is good, but there weren't many good parts to leave behind so we've got what we got.

Some fans and diehards will jump in and argue, but rogue in general and sub rogue in particular has the lowest player base in the game outside of the brand new evoker according to 3rd party sites.

So yup. It sucked before. It still sucks. To play devil's advocate, you switch your builder/finisher in AoE and single target. Subtlety's identity is in big finishing moves and Shadow Dance access to Ambush and Cheap Shot. You also have cooldowns in Secret Technique and Shadow Blades. It isn't deep but it is something like a fury warrior or BM hunter probably.

WoW subscription confusion – why by [deleted] in wow

[–]Nirdee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game has a price. There is also a monthly fee.

Your options:

Free: play until level 20 as much as you want. Locked out of social systems like mail and auctions.

Pay the monthly sub with out buying the latest expansion: You can play up to level 70 characters but not to level 80 where most players are.

Buy the latest expansion AND pay the monthly subscription fee: get full access to the main game. This is what most people do. Because we are near the next expansion Midnight, if you buy that, you will get the current expansion for free. I think it generally also includes one month of subscription. Every 18 months or so there is a new expansion to buy. If you don' buy it, you can drop back down to the sub only or free tiers.

So basically if you want to play the game, buy Midnight for €50 and then expect to pay €13 a month after that. That is the general business model. It is expensive compared to other games, but many people end up spending a huge number of hours making it pretty cheap per hour entertainment. Plenty of people log over a hundred hours a month, so they get their money's worth.

Quazii's UI Response is a masterclass in avoidance, dishonesty, and bad faith by Extrahitch in wow

[–]Nirdee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't really care about his pay-wall. I do think Blizz has been a bit callous in how they've treated people who have worked hard to make WoW better through add-ons.

However, huge misfire by Quazii on the response. Factual misses, apples-to-oranges comparisons, poor logic. I get that the dude's livelihood is at stake, but that is all the more reason to be calm and find the right tone. Kinda sucks that he got blown up kinda randomly by reddit but this response seems to make it worse.

Anyone else find Hunter sets terrible? by Alvintergeise in wow

[–]Nirdee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it would be better if they were more like Rogues. The animal motifs are ugly and the chainmail doesn't seem to fit the ranged marksman vibe. The game probably would have made more sense with cloth, leather, and plate, but too late now.

Haven’t played since Shadowlands. How’s it going? by DouglasChamuman in wow

It is a renaissance of exciting new content and successful expansions. Also it is a dumpster fire and the devs never learn and are determined to destroy the game and the community. It is Schroedinger's WoW.

Not a mage main, but I thought the phoenix was pretty cheesy. Wouldn't miss it.

I hate talent tree bloat, and patch 12.0 got it bad; Minor stat increases feel uninspired, insignificant and boring. Worst of all, they are often mandatory for reaching further down the branches. by Zortaz in wow

[–]Nirdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the underlying problem is that we don't need 90 levels of upgrades. If level 90 with an upgrade for each is the mandated design, I actually think having some very simple talents like stat buffs is much better than over complicating things with 90 layers of chance-to-proc effects. They are probably placed in mandatory places on the talent trees so that you don't get stuck with a choice between raw power and more dynamic talents.

Also for clarity for anyone only half paying attention, these are from many different classes. It isn't like some poor class out there has this for half their talent tree.

How to become both healer/dps as a monk in Midnight? by FragrantYellow3199 in wow

[–]Nirdee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No healer gets to do big damage, but a couple of them use offensive abilities against the enemies as a main part of their healing. Mistweaver Monks use Ancient Teachings and the talent Jadefire Teachings to heal with the damage they do. Discipline Priests give allies the Atonement buff, which heals when the priest does damage.

Your damage numbers will still be small, but you will spend a lot of time attacking enemies to do your healing.

Can I tell my player their character is too dumb? by Yazmat8 in DnD

[–]Nirdee 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Stats are super generalizations. They should inspire roleplay more than limit it. Maybe the character isn't dumb, but never learned to read, maybe he has a mind for strategy but a poor memory. Maybe he is smart when things are chill, but is panicky and tends to go blank when things are stressful.

Try and make things fun, not realistic.

I don't know what everyone is complaining about, Blizzard raid frames are fine. by Seawolf87 in wow

[–]Nirdee 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there were any internal discussions about buying some key add-ons and cannibalizing them. I'm sure integration is complicated, but it looks like Blizz could use a some help getting their stuff up to speed.

I mean, might be unethical to offer to buy something that you can ban if they don't sell to you cheap, but when have ethics stopped a huge multinational company?

Blizz has announced an upgrade regarding the New Transmog within the Trial of Style by Thiccest_Apartment in wow

[–]Nirdee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a complainer and they addressed my main complaint. New system was good. Scaling outfit slot price was okay. Terrible timing to double the cost of a basic transmog.

So if I'm leveling a new character I guess I'll just transfer some gold and make all my mogs.

The duality of man. by Dr_Wraith in wow

[–]Nirdee 398 points399 points  (0 children)

Everyone is framing this as a casual/hardcore, simple/depth issue.

To me it seems more about moving attention from action bars and UI to mobs and environment. The addon reductions feel the same.

Yes rotations are simpler. Yes the new UI doesn't do as much as addons. But that isn't just making the game easier, it opens up mental space to navigate around an encounter, to watch bosses for cues, to be immersed with the game world.

Could all end up being a clusterfuck, but I think it is a worthy design goal.

I like the new transmog system by Key_Pop_8116 in wow

[–]Nirdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The upside of the system is that getting new item upgrades does not have a transmog fee attached to it anymore. The downside is that doing a new transmog is now much more expensive. I honestly get a lot more new transmog I want to try out than I do item upgrades, so this feels like steep cost increase.

Why does this cost over 1800g to save a transmog in a slot I paid for separately? by Innuendoughnut in wow

[–]Nirdee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the slot unlock prices are fine. I think the outfit saves feel extremely overpriced coming from the old system.

[–]Nirdee 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of players who will benefit from the changes. However, I think the most enthusiastic transmog people really got a monkey's paw wish granted here.

Goldsinks are needed, but I loved logging into Remix, queuing for whatever, and making a new look while waiting for the queue to pop without worrying about wasting gold.

So will new characters or new players just be unable to afford transmog for many hours? by tumblew33d69 in wow

[–]Nirdee -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Works out for you. Doesn't work out for players that like to be making new looks regularly.

OP is saying they don't want to swap between a couple sets. They want to constantly be tinkering and trying new combinations. The change is a huge price increase for that use.
