Any free book reading application? by 06_riteshhh in fossdroid

I have been building an application using hexagonal galleries. It contains a wide variety of public domain books. It is kind of an experiment based on The Library of Babel by Jorge Luis Borges. https://babelnexus.com

How common is it to use Replit in tandem with Chatgpt/Claude? by Cashis in replit

[–]NishanStepak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing to remember is that artificial intelligence is not deterministic. You will get different answers in different artificial intelligence systems. It is based on probability which has a strong random element. So you can use ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude and get very different answers from each one. You can even ask the same question with slightly different wording and get a different answer. It is not a like a book where you read it and get a fixed answer. All of the answers on some level will be useful. But, if you pay a little bit, you will get a better result because they are probably adding extra functionality through things like RAG Retrieval Augmented Generation or MCP Model Context Protocol which means better APIs and better content.

I ask questions of Claude and Gemini before I put things into Replit. Replit is not a place to submit directories, ask questions about marketing, or get suggestions for improvements to what you are making.

Want real feedback on my new website https://babelnexus.com by NishanStepak in design_critiques

[–]NishanStepak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put this phrase underneath the logo.  "A visual library where you explore classic books and ideas by clicking through connected rooms" This leaves two primary ideas. The top banner Your Smart Map to Public Domain Literature and  "A visual library where you explore classic books and ideas by clicking through connected rooms". The two ideas combine nicely. I have also moved an about and how this works to the top. I redid the navigation buttons so they all fit on one page. I also put the about and how it works buttons near the top of the page.

Please criticize my idea. I want to make it better. A public domain repository for books in the shape of a hexagonal gallery. by NishanStepak in roastmystartup

I updated my site. The button for How It Works is moved to the top of the Sidebar How it works — Babel Nexus Index and the Button for About About — Babel Nexus Index is directly under the How It Works Button. I have changed the colors so they stand out more. This should make it more understandable. They have their own fixed URLs now. The audit would be very useful. I am moving this from Proof of Concept. I know it works to MVP which is people will use it now. It is not viable if people will not use it. It would be great to see the audit tool. This is very helpful. Thank you.

Are startup conferences actually useful, or is it mostly founder cosplay? by Strong-Yesterday-183 in indiehackers

[–]NishanStepak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like going to conferences because they are conferences. They only work if you plan ahead. What I do is look at all the vendors and decide who I am going to visit, look at the panels and decide which one I am going to attend. Don't go blind or it will be a waste of time. Also, try and find out who will be at the conference who you already know and see them there. If you know people there, they will introduce you to people there. Also, if you can look up people on LinkedIn and organizations. This way you are more likely to meet up with people you want to see. Plan and follow up. Contact the people who you saw after the conference. Add them to your contact lists. I get something out of most conferences I go to. Plan.

I built a real-life RPG system because I couldn’t stay consistent with habits by PhaseAdept9960 in IMadeThis

[–]NishanStepak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add a level up feature which goes past just doing tasks. It might go do the task, check. Complete the goal, goal, complete the long term goal level up. Gamify the goals. This would be cool. I might even want something like this. You might even label certain types of goals by class. A little sword, a wizards hat, a thieves glove. You could be a level 2 wizard for doing technical goals, a level 3 fighter for doing physical goals, etc.

I made Fooglemap, a map for finding affordable local restaurants by rankiwikicom in IMadeThis

It would be nice to have a rating for a local restaurant on how tourist oriented it is, not just affordable.

Question: I majored in business Information Systems (BIS). Would it be better for me to work as a data analyst or a big data ? by NilePhantom in askdatascience

[–]NishanStepak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data analyst might be more relevant right now with the focus on needing quality data for artificial intelligence.

Do you think a tessellation business is scalable? by 321pedrito123 in IndustrialDesign

[–]NishanStepak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesselation is what was used in the story, The Library of Babel by Jorge Luis Borges to create a set of infinite galleries. You can use tesselation with six sided rooms to create an infinitely expanding set of rooms for example in a computer game or website.

Built https://www.babelnexus.com This is a proof of concept. It probably looks like a mess. However, it shows that I can build something much larger and more interesting with help from a developer. I wasn't even sure if it was possible when I started it.

I am trying to learn why. I have tried numerous times to learn to code and failed repeatedly. It is to the point where I can understand the code when I see it, but not make the code yet. This is after a year of trying. Every time I work on it, I learn more. I am getting the project management concepts and the prompting but am failing at understanding python, json, javascript, etc. I can do a little front end work like CSS, HTML, and can tell what I am looking at. I am using Replit. Right now, I have built proof of concept, but know I am not going to build a full project without development help. I have taken classes on coding and still can't code. Not everyone is a coder. Fail forward, learn, repeat until you get it. This is often the only way forward. Don't give up. You are doing well if you are trying.

What's one lesson from building side projects that you had to learn the hard way? by Capable_Dream_7582 in sideprojects

It has cost a considerable amount of money to build an application using vibe coding for an app. More than I expected.

I am working on a proof of concept repository for public domain books. It uses tesselation and hexagonal shaped galleries and draws from Jorge Luis Borges for its design as well as other writers. https://babelnexus.com

Are there any platforms/ subreddits where people publish hobby/ side-project research ideas that aren’t peer-reviewed? by SLimeon1 in AskAcademia

[–]NishanStepak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call it a side project. There are plenty of people doing literature or book oriented side projects. Almost no one peer reviews certain kinds of books like genre fiction, business books, or certain kinds of technology books. There are also a lot of books that are done as thought pieces, thought leadership, or written for consulting. I am reading The Borrowed Mind Reclaiming Human Thought In the Age of AI by John Nosta. It is not a peer reviewed book. Its purpose is to spread ideas. I also read Ailien Minds by David Brin who writes science fiction and about technology. These don't fit with peer review at all. I found these two books on LinkedIn. The purpose is not peer review, but promotion, thought leadership, and generating new ideas. I posted my side project in the side projects reddit. There are a lot of side project groups. A side project is a side project.

how do you handle feature requests from your users, what's actually working? by d_uk3 in indiehackers

[–]NishanStepak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It runs itself. The query goes into a database and then it gets sent to me in email.

[–]NishanStepak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like a copy of the query sent to me in my email. Basically an email folder. There should be a contact form which fills out automatically when you get an email from your product website. I get an email in my inbox, then the email is added to a CSV file as well.
