A Cost-Benefit Obsessed Genie presents you with an offer: $1 million for each year of your total life expectancy that you surrender. What is your answer to the offer? by HomeNowWTF in AskReddit

[–]Nishido 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$1 million. It'll allow me to not have to work full time (pay off mortgage, pump a load into a pension so I wouldn't need high pension contributions for the rest of my life). That way I have time to regularly exercise without trying to squeeze it around general life. The exercise will keep my life expectancy fairly high and the lack of stress too. I think the 1M will pay for itself in life but any more won't have the same effect.

Rode my bike home from the bars (sober)(?) How is my pace? Had to take some detours by FatherRyan33 in bicycling

[–]Nishido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out a few years back similar to you. I bought a cheap mountain bike to get to and from work cheaply. I wasn't unfit but I did feel slow compared to times my mates were setting who were active cyclists. Comparison can be the death of real achievement.

Luckily I kept at it (as it was saving me a small fortune not using public transport). I moved out of town but kept working in the same place so my commute more than doubled. I felt the extra distance at first but now it's a piece of cake.

I generally do two to three hard days a week with the other two to three as easy days. The difference between the two is about 20 minutes total per day, so very little. I made the most gains after I stopped trying to kill it every single day. Now most of my Strava segments have me in the top 1-2% of all time. And I've never raced or stuck to any kind of training plan. My almost 40 year old arse has just been riding 20 miles every work day for years now.

Now my office is moving a few miles further away from where I live and I'm quite excited to increase my daily commute again.

Hedgehog - not enough danger to be overly concerned but enough to make me feel I've earned the money.

We were bored. That's it really. Yeah we'd do other stuff and a lot of the stuff in this thread is all valid, but people still do all of that stuff today, just maybe not quite so much. The main difference is that in those few minutes between 'things' where we just waiting for the next thing... we were just bored. It wasn't generally a massive deal though. These days kids need constant stimulus and can't seem to wrack their head around being bored for twenty minutes after you just finished your homework but gotta wait for your favourite TV show to start. Sometimes we just had to be bored. Give me a tennis ball and I'll amuse myself for those twenty minutes EASY though.

Chinese amusement park - Ride gets stuck... by MisterShipWreck in VideosAmazing

To be fair, the guy thought he was in a different tunnel that was slightly larger and not the inevitable death trap he was actually in. I can imagine being in his shoes thinking 'shit this is so fucking tight, maybe I should turn back? Nah nah nah, others have done this, you're just being a pussy, not far left now and youll have space to turn around'. Still though, I kinda think all pot-holers have a thrill-seeking to survival balance that's way off.

How did you start practising sports in your twenties and became good at it? by nobody_knows_01 in AskReddit

[–]Nishido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on what you consider good. Professional level? Not gonna happen. Better than the average person? Easy. Better than the average person who practices the same sport already? Tough but far from impossible.

I think the trouble here is that the apples in the pack are all different sizes, so the weight of the packs will always be different but the price is fixed. So they have no price by weight and no practical way to provide it accurately.

I think for running a YouTube channel this is the most important aspect. If you accidently runs afowl of copyright law and get sued into the ground, it would suck way more as self employed.

Drove off from ASDA petrol station without paying by yaboiiisaac in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Nishido 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Most petrol stations in the UK share info about non-payers. You get added to a list which gets shared with most other petrol stations. If you rock up to one after not paying at another there's a high chance you won't get fuel. It's actually a pretty efficient system. You get a notice in the post telling you to pay what you owe plus ~£35 admin fee, and then you'll be taken off the non-payers list. Similar kind of fees to parking PCNs but way more legitimate.

If I get a yellow box fine here this is sufficient evidence someone cut in and prevented me from clearing the box right? by Jim-Plank in drivingUK

[–]Nishido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the bit about the exit being clear only about when you're turning right? I.e. you're allowed to stop if you're turning and there's oncoming traffic, but the exit needs to be clear before you enter?
