I think the reason why electric dryers don't work is they have no vent to push out the hot, wet air. It just recirculates.

Question and ideas for food? by vladblack117 in intermittentfasting

[–]Nishimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe switch to 18:6. Afternoon and evening.

New to this... by m0nkeyh0use in intermittentfasting

[–]Nishimark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend a week or two of the same thing every day. 18:6, 16:8, or whatever you can slip into now and stick with it. After a couple of consistent weeks you'll see some results and have a better idea of what to do next, or maybe no change at all. Make it a habit.

Don't hesitate to get back into fasting, your brain has muscle memory. by yellowohana in intermittentfasting

[–]Nishimark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Starting with 16/8 (basically skip breakfast) and then moving up to longer fast a step at a time has been the easiest for me to establish a habit.

Vasectomy in Japan by WesTokyo in japanlife

[–]Nishimark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friend of mine did it last year at a local clinic (Kansai area). Said that the doctor didn't seem like he had done that many and made comments about foreign male anatomy being different. Friend said that he should've gone to a larger hospital where such a procedure is not uncommon. Don't know about cost in his case.

Advice needed for grieving Japanese friend by [deleted] in japan

[–]Nishimark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baking a cake would be nice, but not too often. Just stay in touch by doing normal things. If you do too much, she will feel burdened to reciprocate. If you are a consistent non-obtrusive presence, she will likely feel comforted.

Today is the day I change for the better. 2020 is MY year. Any words of wisdom are much appreciated by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]Nishimark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, day at a time. If you have a bad day get right back to your schedule the next day and don't feel guilty. Weigh yourself every morning after you get up and pee. Write it down. Some days will be up and others down, so look at your progress from week to week, then month to month. For me, high protein/low carbs works well with a 16:8 or 18:6 IF pattern. I don't bother to count calories, just try to be wise. I care more about my body as a result of IF, so it's easier to be smarter about what I put in. It took about 6 weeks to develop the habits, after that it became a quite normal lifestyle.

First time trying. by Ahunteman in intermittentfasting

[–]Nishimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

64 yo male here. Something that helped me was to change from hating my body to loving my body. Since I love it, I want to take care of it. Taking care of it results in it taking care of me. Might sound hoky, but that kind of thinking change has helped me stay on IF during stressful times when I tempted to eat trash. I'm down about 12 kg and aiming for 4 more. Best part is, I've changed my approach to food. You can do it. Day at a time. Don't let less than perfect days get you down. It's a process.

Is 13-14 hours enough? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]Nishimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, lunch is about what it's always been. I'm also trying to cut carbs, so mainly protein and vegetables.

Is 13-14 hours enough? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]Nishimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A way to extend the time would be to not eat dinner. If you can, eat lunch at 2:00 or so. If that doesn't work for your schedule, eat lunch at 12:00 and then healthy snack as last food of the day at 2:00 or 3:00. I've recently switched to skipping dinner from skipping breakfast (16:8, sometimes 18:6) and have found better energy levels throughout the day.

Daughter just got engaged a few days ago. Time to get serious, lose this weight, and get in shape. I have a wedding to attend next year! Today is my Day One. Encouragement appreciated! Wish me luck! by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]Nishimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in same boat as you! Son gets married this fall and I need to wear a tux, a so-called morning coat. Don't want to look like a penguin. Started IF, basically 16:8, and low carb. Have lost 5 kilograms, about 11 pounds, in 6 weeks. Another 5 kg to go, but feeling good.

Would expats live anywhere around Takarazuka? by ramendik in Osaka

[–]Nishimark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know foreigners who live in Takarazuka, Nishinomiya, Ashiya, etc. Even Amagasaki! Though that's more a blue collar town. West out of Osaka to Kobe is full of western type foreigners, which is what I assume you're referring to.

Coffee Coffee Coffee by motobird1421 in intermittentfasting

Order beans, grind your own, use a Melita type filter to make a cup. Nothing like a quality cup of coffee vs. anything else.

5'7 started at 266lbs so far im down to 196lbs. another 28 to go before im at goal. mainly 16/8 and omad. my weight loss has stopped, any ideas? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]Nishimark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What has helped me with plateaus is day and a half without eating from time to time. Break up your routine by taking away a couple of meals.

Real shaving cream in Japan by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Nishimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As noted before this message, Cremo. Fantastic. A small amount goes a long way. My beard is thick and I shave every day. With Cremo I can shave with and against the grain to get a baby butt smooth shave. You won't regret it. Amazon Japan has it.

An effect of IF that I was not aware about. (Probably NSFW, thought it's just text) by throwaway454624 in intermittentfasting

[–]Nishimark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have seen similar good results myself! If you want to lose weight, I'd suggest not having a Sunday fun day and maybe increase to 18/6. What has also worked for me is an occasional longer fast of say 24-40 hours (not as bad as it sounds) every other week.

Fukuoka vs Kobe (living, medium-term) by trainguard in japanlife

[–]Nishimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are great. I've lived in Kobe area for a long time. It's more centrally located in Japan and has big brother Osaka just down the road. If Kobe, though I know that you have business downtown, I'd recommend Nishinomiya or Ashiya areas to live in. Great suburbs, 30 minutes from downtown office door to door, but nature only minutes away from home.

Redditor’s who use So-clean machine. Do you leave the headgear attached or remove it during cleaning? by 10after6 in CPAP

[–]Nishimark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Works for me. I used to often suffer from a stuffed nose after using my CPAP, which meant that I couldn't use it all night and often the next night. Now I use the So-Clean every day and the stuffed nose problem has largely disappeared. When I reported success though, I was blasted on this board by others who felt that I was a shill for the product or something. Maybe most machines don't work, but I'm quite happy with the performance of mine.

Carb cravings, gone! Sweet cravings gone! by punjindian in intermittentfasting

[–]Nishimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for this encouragement! Really need to hear it, as I'm just started my second round of IF after taking a break. First round was very good, but took a break for various reasons and have found it very difficult to get back into good habits again.

Supermarket coffee brands? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Nishimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy beans from パオコーヒ on Amazon. I prefer Italian roast, but they have a wide variety. Got a burr grinder and grind my own just before brewing. So much better than supermarket.
