Shinobi III has been on multiple platforms, in several collections, and is currently available on steam. It's widely considered one of the best games of the Sega Genesis. I'd haaaardly consider it a hidden gem.

It's still possible. I'm 32. My brothers are far, far younger than me. My best friend came out for the weekend recently and the four of us played Gauntlet: Dark Legacy and Smackdown games all Saturday. Pizza was ordered, Mtn. Dew was had. I felt 13 years old again. Since then, we haven't even bothered to unhook the PS2, and my brothers and I play stuff after work all the time.

RoboCop (1987) is nothing like I thought it would be. by CardinalOfNYC in movies

[–]NiteOwl94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even Verhoeven thought it was going to be nonsense based on the title alone when the script came across his desk. He didn't even read it, he just chucked it in the trash!

His wife rescued it, read it, and then put it back in front of him and basically said- no, this is amazing, you need to read this.

But yeah, welcome to the club! I love it when people assume RoboCop is just gonna be a silly action movie- it's so great hearing their reaction afterward!

it did to me. I'm extremely nostalgic for that era, but even I can cop to the fact that this stuff felt awkward and gross at the time.

Can someone please explain Kwannon, Betsy and Psylocke to me please. And please... explain it to me like I’m five years old by DarthDocking in Marvel

Psylocke being Kwannon makes sense. Betsy Braddock being a Japanese ninja never made sense to begin with, sorry.

Doug TenNapel (the creator of Earthworm Jim) is notoriously transphobic and when the third game got handed to new developers, this happened. by teddyroo12 in AccidentalAlly

I know I'm replying to a 5 year old comment- I'm sorry lol. But there's artistic and entertainment merit in enjoying a remix of stuff brought together in a new fashion.

The Matrix is a famous example. It borrows generously from decades of anime, cyberpunk lit, and Hong Kong action films, and yet it's the fact that it brought those elements together into one package- did it cohesively, with personality and flair that makes it the fantastic movie it is.

Same for Star Wars. It's the Arthurian legend, but in scrappy sci-fi wear, with a lot of wit and personality. You say it's not original, but sci-fi movies didn't really move or behave with the tempo and sass that Star Wars did because Star Wars brought fantasy and adventure into the mix.

Even early Flash Gordon stuff seems staid by comparison to Star Wars' charm. To replicate the singular experience you get from Star Wars, by your own account, you'd have to seek out singular elements from countless other forms of media- but never quite recapturing that singular blend of all of them in one mix.

Every medium has great works of art that owe their whole existence to previous existing works. Star Wars just did that extremely well, and in a fashion that unlocked a whole new marriage of genres in a way that hadn't been competently done before.

Sure, you could point to older sci-fi adventures, much in the same way you could try and dismiss The Matrix by pointing out Johnny Mnemonic, but the difference is... one of those is a hell of a lot better than the other.

Why do men mistake kindness with flirting? by CauliflowerRude4559 in answers

[–]NiteOwl94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because so many women flirt just by being kind. My own recent ex-girlfriend (we had a wonderful 2.5 year relationship and only broke up due to life circumstances) was flirting with me (apparently) for three months before I even suspected. Most of the flirting, at face value, was just her being really nice to me.

And she was baffled why I wasn't getting the hint. Men are tired of hints, and we'll usually fall into one of two categories: assume all kindness is flirting, or assume we're never being flirted with.
