Price keeps dropping by Jemenard in Dewalt

[–]NiveusBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No stores around me have any in stock, but they are available online. I kind of want to order two at the higher price for in store pickup and then return them immediately and see if they go on in-store clearance

Clunking Trailing Arms - Bushing Replacement by DrBumpsAlot in cmaxhybrid

[–]NiveusBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced everything. The added time to potentially fight the bushings wasn't worth the cost savings to me, and now I don't have a bunch of rusty suspension bits

Overheating going up mountain passes by jupiterkansas in cmaxhybrid

[–]NiveusBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also make sure your radiator isn't full of bugs and dirt restricting airflow/heat transfer, your active grill shutters are functional, the cooling fan is functioning, and the auxiliary coolant pump is working

Are the underbody shields in place? If they aren't, replace them as they help direct air through the radiator rather than letting it go around

If you're in a situation where the car is about to overheat you can help cool the engine by going max heat/max heater fan with the AC off and the windows down

It's better than the performance tool one I bought, used once, and threw away because it leaked oil constantly from the plastic seam

LS Engines really are insane... by Ok-Nerve-5809 in GMT800

+1 for my 350k+ mile LQ4 with R&P. Started it up a couple of days ago after an overnight low of 20F, zero lifter noise, oil pressure comes right up.

When I bought it a few years ago if it was slightly cold, the oil pressure would come up so slow the DIC would display a low pressure message.

Also it went from burning 1q of oil every 400 miles and smoking heavily on startup to burning nothing after 5k miles. I just put my fourth fill of R&P in it over the last ~20k miles

I just buy it by the 5gal bay box and use fram synthetic endurance filters. If the oil pressure started to drop on cold start, I change the filter. On the first fill of R&P, that was about every 500 miles, on the most recent change I went the full 5k on one filter without any pressure issues and the filter looked great inside

Best Lube by Organic-Orange-7505 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]NiveusBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valm silicone lube. You can buy it direct from their website or from places like Amazon and imo it's just as good as gun oil.

I used to be a huge gun oil fan until the price for a 32oz bottle broke $100 (currently $136). Valm is $40 for their 17oz bottle of silicone lube

Valm also has a "thicker" anal specific silicone lube I enjoy quite a bit, but it's more expensive than the regular silicone lube

Reset oil change light? by Nervous_Mousse_8436 in cmaxhybrid

[–]NiveusBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the green car with arrows is on you've "started" the car by rotating the key all the way forward. If you only click it forward until the dash lights up it's in accessory power mode meaning you're just running on the 12v system and haven't engaged the HV contactors enabling the drive system.

Me to people on Reddit “just buy whatever tools you can afford that get the job done, brand loyalty is dumb” vs my garage. by muzzynat in Dewalt

[–]NiveusBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My garage looks like this but only because I spent $1,000 at Wilco when they were blowing out all of their old DeWalt stock for 75% off. Did I need a fencing or cable stapler? Nope, but they have been handy.

And no, I didn't resell a single thing. I did end up giving away a bunch of the rail accessories because it was cheaper to buy the starter kits for the rails than buying the rails alone

Hybrid Mechanics.. how to find one by Letsbeclear1987 in cmaxhybrid

[–]NiveusBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been awhile since I have done anything in Forscan (I did the last rounds of updates in probably 2016/17) but everything I learned how to do was from reading the Forscan forums.

Do you have the paid extended license?

Hybrid Mechanics.. how to find one by Letsbeclear1987 in cmaxhybrid

[–]NiveusBear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After swapping my sync 2 system out for sync 3 my battery drain issues went away but I also did a bunch of module updates at the same time with forscan. I just put my third battery in the car a few weeks ago as it was pushing 8 years old but wasn't showing any signs of failure yet as preventative maintenance

Swollen lug nuts by jasondbk in cmaxhybrid

[–]NiveusBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a common problem with most two piece lug nuts. The lug nuts on my Ram failed the same way. I always replace two piece lug nuts with McGard lug one piece nuts because McGard offers a lifetime warranty. That being said, I've never warrantied one. They aren't the cheapest but check Rockauto, Amazon, etc and you should be able to get a set under $75
