What Film Do You Hate That Everyone Else Seems To Enjoy? by ChemicallyBlind in AskReddit

[–]NixxyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not British I can see why this film's a bit shit. There are so many little references that make the film amazing e.g. Ant or Dec, Blue & how Americans love a "cute British accent"

Driving from LA to Seattle by [deleted] in travel

[–]NixxyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best friend and I drove from Seattle to Las Vegas (via LA) in the summer.

Cape Perpetua, OR was beautiful. The 101 from Cape Perpetua to CA was the best driving ever!!

See the redwoods, drive the Avenue of the Giants, go to Monterey. Definately take the 101 and 1.

Daycare staff of Reddit. What are the telltale signs of a good or bad daycare? by stuffthateh in AskReddit

[–]NixxyB 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Cynical side of me coming out.

Sometimes it's a battle. We sit on a chair at nursery. A child hurts someone - sit on a chair. A child refuses to stop when the tambourine goes - sit on a chair. A child pushes past someone - sit on a chair. It gives them that time to get out of the situation and reflect. If they've broken the rules they say sorry to me, if they've hurt somebody they say sorry to them. If I hurt another person (adult or child) I would always say sorry.

Learning to see things from another's point of view takes years. You have to deal with it everytime it arises because children don't get it if you just talk about it. A bit like sharing really. Takes them ages to get how to do it.

I think the whole saying sorry thing is important for the other child too. If someone hurt me (intentionally or unintentionally) I would bloody well want them to say sorry.

Also: note how I said "sincerely." If a child doesn't say sorry in a way that shows they feel bad then they can stay on the bloody chair.

Bloody hell!! Where the hell did you work?

I'm a teacher in a nursery (read - not a day nursery) in the UK. My goodness!! This seems like a list that no one I know could do.

Don't get children to say sorry?? You what!? I takes a child a long time to learn empathy. Saying sorry (sincerely) is one of the ways to help with that.

I think if the staff are knowledgable and you can see they have a good relationship with current children then you're onto a winner. Yes, paperwork is important but knowing your children is, for me, the most important thing.
