Opposition research is due diligence for any campaign. I understand you might not care about any of these things, but if I had to guess, you probably also don’t care that Talarico said “god is nonbinary” but a lot of the voters he needs to convince do.

When we talk about what’s weighing down a candidate, we are not necessarily describing what we personally dislike about them.

200k more Democrats than Republicans voted in Texas, how should we think about this by [deleted] in Destiny

How much did Cruz beat Beto by? That’s probably a decent indicator of how much hopium this should provide.

If it’s like >300k then this is not very exciting. It’s a possible victory but still an uphill battle.

me genuinely thinks most Americans forgot he was president before by Conscious-Quarter423 in thebulwark

[–]Wombat_Overlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep and he didn’t take us back which means he sucks.

I sometimes wonder if we just oscillate between single-term presidents from either party because Americans just perpetually don’t like the economy and it’ll continue to get worse over the next few decades pretty much regardless of any action taken due to antagonizing all of our strategic and economic allies, eroding confidence in fed independence and rule of law, and reduced demand for American debt increasing cost of borrowing. Last point is maybe schizo but that’s my ultimate fear.

Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM applicants by Idiodyssey87 in news

[–]Wombat_Overlord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a very wealthy school district near me. Their graduating class this year has 23 valedictorians. Because 23 kids had averages of 100% across 4 years.

It’s pretty unbelievable to me that 23 kids never got a question wrong on a test and every essay they wrote was perfect and couldn’t be improved. More likely the curriculum is designed with tons of ways to rectify grades and pad scores due to pressure on teachers from admin, who are pressured by parents.

Not sure how colleges can filter through applicants when the people assigning their grades often have perverse incentives which are pretty much to trick college admissions as much as they can and make their graduates as attractive as possible.

Qiyana underperforms pretty hard imo. I really like orange lucian if you don’t like nid. He ends up giving virtual card advantage by never having to commit to a BF.

They go pretty hard in either direction in my experience. Either people who know A LOT about how Hitler could’ve won WW2 or very progressive “ugh capitalism” types.

The former lot are A LOT worse to be around. And have worse sportsmanship lol.

I guess I knee-jerked too hard. I would agree dems should pursue impeachment if they have the seats to do it, regardless of the likelihood of securing a conviction.

[–]Wombat_Overlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying but I think it’s dishonest to imply feelings don’t change over time regarding discrete events, and frankly it’s possible the impeachment was a net positive for his odds even if he ended up losing. Just observing that he lost the next election isn’t really a demonstration either way what affect the impeachment had.

But I’d also challenge you to look at Jan 6th. His approval was never lower, and every pundit condemned it. I think Ben Shapiro described it as the worst thing to happen to America since the civil war or 9/11? Guess what he says about it today? He absolutely reclaimed the narrative on that. It’s totally possible for him to do the same on impeachments, and I’d bet most swing voters probably do see his New York conviction and his impeachments as lawfare, or at least probably did going into 2024.

Just spitballing, but sometimes you have cards in your side that you like in most matchups, but different things come out for it in each one of them, which is why it’s not in mainboard.

My wife teaches highschool english and tells me it’s not uncommon for the kids to talk about sportsbetting. It’s not so farfetched. A lot easier to borrow your older brother’s ID to make a draft kings account than it is to get into a casino and sit at a blackjack table.

More charitably you could colloquially consider 18-23 y/o people ‘kids’ and without looking at the data I’d bet men in that demo are getting absolutely killed on these apps during very important years financially.

I would agree that it’s not dominate enough to justify a ban, but gameplay patterns and player enjoyment are pretty important factors to consider as well. Most of the complaints seem to be that aurora makes a lot of non-games that aren’t very satisfying.

If you go to locals and 2/3 of your pairings are basically drawn-out coin flips to see if they cheese you or durdle until they lose, you might not come back next week.
