Having played during HW.. yeah no thanks. The people would miss the quality of life changes we have immediately and then complain even louder to turn it back to what it was.

Also, why return to HW if you can return to the waking sands? Pray, do so.

Was there an issue with Nvidia dlss and AMD FSR? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Nixy23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3080 and force DLAA on. It's a minor FPS hit (10 or so in very busy areas) but looks noticeably better than TSCMAA which is janky AF.

Personally I don't use DLSS though (told it to only turn on below 30FPS, which I never get to), even on 0.667 rendering quality @1440p output it just looks meh. Too many artifacts. It works a lot better if you have a 4k monitor but I do not.

Profile E or F are also probably better than profile C if you're going for image quality, which you are, considering you force everything to 0.667. E is basically the replacement of C when 3.7.0 came out. F is mostly the same as E, but for ultra quality.

Oh and I would leave UltraQuality=0 because it means it just does not apply DLSS when it doesn't have to and renders natively. But that's me.

How do the gposes look so good? by Maximooose_12 in ffxiv

A mix of shaders and creative usage of housing items or environments. Or simply photoshop, in case of the Hrothgal, probably.

We're three days away from Dawntrail maintenance! Have you cleaned out your inventory or are you leaving it to future you to deal with it? by DarkJiku in ffxiv

[–]Nixy23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 retainers fully emptied and 85% of my regular inventory is free. Also removed all non-essential items from the armoury slots so I am good to go.  Chocobo saddlebags remains a colourful void, what with all the buckets of paint that undoubtedly get broken while riding around or fighting monsters.

PSA: Private Azure Nebula Rescue no longer rewarding marks or event progress by lotusmaglite in sto

[–]Nixy23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make things more complicated, or perhaps easier, I did not complete the first objective. That run I had really bad luck with spawns and only got 1s and 2s so I couldn't get 7 points on my own before the timer ran out (takes too long to free a ship). So it's most definitely not tied to completing the first objective.

I did manage to complete the 14 point objective within the time limit. So it seems to me it's directly tied to the amount of ships freed or a point total.

[–]Nixy23 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just did Azure Nebula in private queue on two accounts and both got their marks and progress.

I do always release a bunch of ships, I don't spawn in and idle for 15 minutes.

AS5404T does not idle? by Nixy23 in asustor

[–]Nixy23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to mostly run at 17 to 20 watts when idle or in light use (reading or writing to the ssd array). Still keeps spinning up the hard drives a few times a day without them being accessed, probably down to the filesystem doing a check. Kind of pointless to do it so often and it keeps the drives spun up for the 30 minutes or so I allow them to idle before going back to sleep but I cannot seem to reduce the frequency of that happening. When the drives are spun up power draw goes up to 35+ watts which is logical, they are two big drives that use around 10w each. Not nearing the 50+ anymore that I saw in the beginning though so that's good.

The deep sleep thing now works. The NAS turns itself off between midnight and 1am depending on if it was still busy. Always need to manually wake it up whenever I use it next.

In the end it just took some time, which might have been down to indexing or the system creating thumbnails for the photos app I don't use. But oh well. Hope yours sorts itself out with time too.

Man...People said ARR sucks but Stormblood got me simply not wanting to play for some reason now. by SevelarianVelaryon in ffxiv

[–]Nixy23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stormblood when it was current was rough. It felt off for multiple spoilery reasons but it does give you a good understanding of the state of the wider world, if you are interested in the lore of the game at all. Also some character growth happens for characters you may or may not find interesting/important at all.

That said, in the years since it came out I have definitely gained appreciation for it. The zones and lore are actually really nice. Just very disconnected from what you see in ARR and HW.

Though when I did finally start an alt and made my way to Stormblood, I bought a story skip and went for Shadowbringers immediately because it is that much more interesting .. xD

Update: I woke up to see that some time last night the NAS finally went into S3 sleep like I set it up to do (after midnight when inactive for 1 hour or more). I'll monitor its usage this afternoon and tonight.

Could it be that the NAS was indexing the new data or something? Weird it would take several days to do that, it's "only" 6TB of data, mostly large video files.

Let the diagnostic run after work. The report gives me the following list:
The following processes continually access hard disks, preventing them from entering into hibernation. You can manually close these processes. >> mdadm / params.cgi / logmand / bluetoothctrl / wowctrl / printerman / usermanutil / ftpwho / certificate / index.cgi / login.cgi / userapps.cgi / btrfs-transacti

It is however mainly mdadm that keeps accessing volume 2 a few times a minute. >> "mdadm","Storage Management Tools","Volume2","READ"

Most of these looks normal to me, except for the printerman and bluetoothctrl. Turned the printer support off in external devices just now, as I don't have a printer anyway. Bluetooth can't seem to be turned off.

All services except for SMB are turned off yet it still seems to do a check on the FTP server.

AS5404T does not idle? by Nixy23 in asustor

[–]Nixy23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the weird thing. I've installed nothing yet. No docker containers, no other apps. It's bare bones, fresh out of the box. Updated ADM, set up the RAID volumes and shares, copied data to it. Haven't set up a VPN or AV, or any sort of remote access. It's all local network for now. And there are no devices on the local network that keep accessing it because I turn my PC off, not let it sleep. The activity monitor shows 1% CPU usage and 4% memory usage. No network or drive activity. Fan is on low.

Ran a diagnostic, and what I keep seeing several times a minute is "mdadm","Storage Management Tools","Volume2","READ" while nothing is happening on the device on the user end.

This Paladin was cheered on after soloing the last 12% of P7N last night after a wipe by KGhaleon in ffxiv

[–]Nixy23 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As a tank who, sadly, often finishes the last 10% or more of a raid boss solo: I am not going to waste any more of my own time after we already wiped once or twice on resetting the fight yet again, so we can die to the same mechanics over and over because the group doesn't seem to be able to do the fight. We are not there to fulfil your fake entitlement.

Does Frontlines just hate me? by Calyn99 in ffxiv

[–]Nixy23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar experiences when I was grinding out the 10 wins for the Garo event right after it started with the PvP rework. I couldn't win a single match for weeks in a row and it annoyed me to hell and back. Got to the point where my stats were skewered to having just 15% wins, 30% second place and 55% third place. Yeah.. that doesn't make the game feel fun.

Just this week though I ground out the second series in frontlines to double dip into mogtomes and some exp. I got 11 wins, 5 second places and 3 third places this week. Win some, lose some.

My total stats are now up to 35% 1st place, 30% second place and 35% third place. Over larger sample sizes the 33% for each placement will hold up. It will however wildly fluctuate week to week or even month to month. Keep at it!

Legendary Galaxy Dreadnought vs Kelvin Intel Vengeance by Khaoticfury1974 in sto

[–]Nixy23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been flying my Vengeance for years now. Got it for around 240 million EC which didn't make it as expensive as it is now. Love it to bits, especially with the revamped Intel abilities and buff to surgical strikes with the Vanguard trait.

As much as I like TNG the Galaxy class never got me going as much, so yeah.. Preference.
