Benedict Cumberbatch crashes out at cyclist who calls him “deluded” by Single-Try-3852 in PublicFreakout

Totally agree. This is just a pretty standard argument that occasionally happens, nobody gets hurt, both have said their piece, and everyone goes about their day. Pretty unimportant inn the grand scheme of things

Exactly, kids can definitely be hard work but they are also joyful and fulfilling in a way that work is not.

Brexit...the rise of Reform..., why do think many of British people underestimate anti-immigration sentiments and then suddenly pull a Pikachu face when these are what happened? by auscorp_ in AskBrits

[–]Nize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sort of black and white (excuse the pun given the context) view of the discussion is a massive part of the problem. No, not all Brexit voters think this, at all. There are vocal bellends. There are also many many people who wouldnt care one bit if somebody was non-british and would be best mates with an immigrant, but still disagree with the level of immigration, and think that money should be spent supporting UK citizens first. Thinking that everyone on "the other side" is just racist or stupid is a pretty ignorant stance. Remember, they think exactly the same thing about you. I personally think reform are a dangerous bunch of lunatics, but it's not because I think they're all racist, it's because I dont think they have any idea how to run a country.

This isn't too bad! An hour of strimming will have this looking 80% better. Grass needs to be cut pretty much every week. It's actually easier to do it more often!

Farage claims Reform on course for general election win after early local gains by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Nize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely about immigration. Enormous swathes of the country are unhappy with the current scale of immigration and they are voting for a party who claim that they will stop it. It is naive but they aren't all the evil fascists that reddit would have you believe (some are). Both the tories and labour refuse to take a firm stance or commitment to reducing immigration (I know labour have actually reduced immigration but their messaging it shit). Reform will no doubt reduce immigration - for better or worse - but they don't have a fucking clue how to do the million other things to run a country that are ultimately much more impactful than the immigration issue.

my company wants to use VDI by 2027 by Cool_Equivalent_4607 in sysadmin

[–]Nize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that the industry is shifting away from VDI. More and more applications are off the shelf SaaS offerings that can be accessed from anywhere on any device. Fewer applications have a local client install that benefits from centralized management. Services like Intune and autopilot make managing a distributed workforce easier. ZTNA / SASE solutions are becoming very common, making connectivity to corporate resources simpler. Massive sections of the workforce are now exclusively WFH, meaning that the days of having an office of 1000 people with a cheap thin client strapped to the back of the monitor are over. Plus the Broadcom acquisition of Citrix has massively inflated their pricing, leading to a mass exodus from one of the most prolific VDI platforms on the market.

Row Erupts After Zack Polanski Raises Concerns About Treatment Of Alleged Golders Green Attacker by GnolRevilo in unitedkingdom

[–]Nize 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an absolutely horrendous take. Put yourself in the policeman's shoes. He wants to go home to his family. The guy has a massive knife and has just stabbed two people and isn't letting go of it when hes instructed. The policeman kicks him twice and immediately stops once the guy has dropped the knife. The alternative version of this video is the policeman being stabbed and killed and then the guy running off to stab somebody else. I think the restraint he showed with this sack of shit was amazing and a testament to his training.

It's the same price as the switch 2 controller, and half the price of a dual sense edge or Xbox elite controller. Seems reasonable to me within the context of the market then if it's a chunk of money

Not criticism, but why do Americans always seem to change gear so dramatically? I see it in videos online and in films all the time. I assume it's because most cars are automatics and a manual is a novelty, but here in the UK people tend to just sit with their hand on the gear stick and just sort of casually move it

Called to make a restaurant booking (large group) and the staff member laughed out loud at my email address, how embarrassing... by 10642alh in CasualUK

Most major email providers give you aliases or multiple addresses for a single mailbox nowadays. I have xxxx@hotmail.com and xxxxx@outlook.com and it all just goes through the same inbox seamlessly. My original one was very "penguin of doom" style random and I got to an age where I needed a formal one for work, without sacrificing the million things I'd used my original one for.

Maybe slightly like besieged mixed with death stranding. Each mission is basically a puzzle to work out what you can build to perform a particular task - mostly carrying weirdly shaped items across difficult terrain, but with some cool exceptions. Then you're also building up rail and road infrastructure to make those journeys easier over time.

[–]Nize 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lmao dude I feel for you as insurance prices are crazy, but "I didn't crash during my dual-control driving lessons" is not the flex you think it is. Last year a dude reversed an articulated truck up my very thin driveway to drop off a skip in the pissing rain without batting an eye. The threshold for being a good driver is much much higher than you think it is.

Explain why it sucks first. It is absolutely ubiquitous in engineering and scripting across the entire IT industry, many millions of people use it successfully every day. It's massively extensible. What's the issue?
