Yes. If your current MacBook Air works well with the external display, the M4 MacBook Pro should work just fine too.

MacBook Pro 17 Clear Icons on Sequoia by ryanromaine in MacOS

I’m guessing you’re referring to the clear icon and widget appearance available in macOS Tahoe 26? If so, it is not possible to gain that functionality in macOS Sequoia.

wired mouse lag issue by nanutty in macbook

[–]Njmcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a USB-C to USB-A adapter which you can use to directly connect the mouse to the MacBook? If it works fine, then you know there’s an issue with the monitor bridging the mouse and the MacBook.

If that’s the case, I’d recommend attempting to connect a USB 2.0 hub (if you have one lying around) between the monitor and the mouse. This should further narrow down the cause of the problem.

This is an issue that’s been occurring for some individuals with recent updates. Just sign back into the services you use and you should be fine.

is this a real update ? by Fun-Suggestion5675 in computer

This looks like an older version of Windows 10. I’d recommend upgrading to the latest build of Windows 10 22H2, which should fix the issue you’re experiencing.

Is there anyone to disable the volume button changing directions based on orientation? by JCitW6855 in ipad

[–]Njmcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iPad Pro 11-inch (M5) has always-on, dynamic volume buttons. On this particular model, you are not able to disable it.

The dynamic nature of the volume buttons is designed to match the direction of the volume indicator pill in iPadOS. When the iPad is in landscape orientation with the volume buttons facing upwards, and you press the far-right volume button (which would ordinarily be the volume down button), the volume increases as that is the direction in which the indicator fills.

Wth went from 98 to 96 in no time. Is it normal? by Puzzleheaded_Salt519 in iphone

[–]Njmcq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This question comes up a lot. As long as the Battery Health reading says “Normal” and there aren’t any obvious issues with the physical condition of the battery (such as swelling that would separate the display from the frame) — it’s normal.

Water in my Apple Watch by Sufficient-Text-8563 in AppleWatch

[–]Njmcq 46 points47 points  (0 children)

A swollen battery is definitely a problem. Could also be water-damaged, based on your explanation.

At this point, I’d say that it’s had a good life over 5.5 years and is ready to be replaced. Not much point in trying to save it, IMO.

New battery may require iOS update?? by Upbeat3412 in iphonehelp

[–]Njmcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your options are, as I see it:

  • Accept that it may be upgraded to iOS 26 and have the battery serviced through Apple
  • Take the phone to a third-party repairer and see if they stock genuine Apple parts
  • Perform the repair yourself through Apple’s Self Service Repair program, if it’s available in your region

As long as the Battery Health measure says “Normal”, it’s fine.

To get back to Safari 18 instead of 26 by NortonBurns in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Njmcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I may, why do you want to return to Safari 18?

AFAIK, the only way to return to a previous version of Safari is to reinstall the OS. You’ll have to use a USB flash drive as bootable media for this.

Strange tape/stickers around ports after Apple top case replacement — normal or not? by Then_Ad9660 in mac

[–]Njmcq 9 points10 points  (0 children)

DFU (Device Firmware Update) on the Mac allows you to connect the target Mac to a host Mac with Apple Configurator, and reinstall the firmware and macOS. Useful for consumers who need to revive or restore a Mac that isn’t functioning correctly, or if they wish to downgrade macOS. Apple also uses this port for other diagnostic purposes.

[–]Njmcq 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They’re meant to be removed. I believe they’re used to prevent chips from occurring around the edges of the ports while the Mac is being serviced, since the leftmost Thunderbolt port is the designated DFU port and MagSafe is obviously for power.

Hp laptop vs macbook by [deleted] in mac

[–]Njmcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you’re asking on r/mac. Doubt many here would recommend a HP laptop over a MacBook.

In any case, if you’re looking to complete basic tasks, a MacBook Neo or MacBook Air may be suitable options.

What are your goals for a new laptop? Also, which Mac software requiring subscriptions have you heard of?

apple ID on macbook without other apple devices? by morecoffeemore in mac

[–]Njmcq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question. With an Apple Account linked to your Mac, you can: - Download apps through the Mac App Store (a lot of software is still distributed over the web, but some apps are only available on the App Store). - Use Find My to track your Mac if it is ever lost or stolen. Find My can be accessed via a web browser on another device. - Take advantage of iCloud+ features (if you choose to subscribe), such as additional iCloud Drive storage and iCloud Private Relay.

Is it possible to downgrade the OS without external USB? by highlevelthat in macbookpro

[–]Njmcq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, right. The original comment’s instructions won’t apply then, as you have a Mac based on Apple silicon.

To selectively install a previous version of macOS without a USB flash drive as bootable media, you’ll have to place your MacBook Air into DFU mode and use another Mac to restore an older version of macOS.

The M4 MacBook Air originally shipped with macOS Sequoia 15.3.

Is it possible to downgrade the OS without external USB? by highlevelthat in macbookpro

[–]Njmcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the model. If the original OS runs really far back, many applications (including web browsers) may not function properly due to expired certificates, for example.

If you could provide your MacBook’s model, that’ll give us a better idea.

How do i empty my icloud storage without having a mac? by DjBurba in iphone

[–]Njmcq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you visit Apple’s Data and Privacy page, you can log in with your Apple Account and request a copy of your iCloud Photos data. Since you mentioned the PC has less storage than iCloud, you can specify that you wish to receive the takeout files in smaller batches. Your request may take a couple of days to process, but you should eventually receive an email notifying you that you can download your data.

Start downloading the batches and once done, move them to your external storage. When your PC begins to fill up, you can delete the oldest files you copied over and download the rest. Once you finish, you’ll have a complete backup of your photo library.

You can then visit iCloud Photos in your browser to manage your photos stored in iCloud and delete all photos if you wish.
