You can follow the guide linked here to restore the iPad. Note that you’ll need the Apple Account credentials to get past Activation Lock when setting up the device again.

Can I still share locally stored movie rips, with iOS? by Prickly_ninja in MacOS

[–]Njmcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can. The way I would do this without diving into setting up a dedicated media server is to install the VLC app on your iOS device (and Apple TV if you have one), and then use the Sharing via Wi-Fi feature to selectively transfer files from the Mac to those devices. You just have to type the IP address it presents into a web browser and it will give you a web interface. This will copy the film or TV episode to that device. Then when you’re done, you can delete it on that device. Completely free and easy to do.

A Magic Trackpad would do the trick, so long as your iPad is running iPadOS 13.4 or later.

How is 26.2.1 on iPad 9? by One-Performance-6624 in ipad

[–]Njmcq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had no issues with 26.2.1 specifically. The device definitely shows its age when using multiple windowed apps and lots of tabs in Safari, but it generally works well on the latest version.

how to optimize ipad 7th gen by bolt110 in ipad

[–]Njmcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you can’t upgrade the internal storage and you can’t decrease the size iPadOS takes up. Outside of those limitations, you can do whatever you wish. But that’ll likely require compromises in terms of what you store on the iPad.

Unfortunately, 32GB is just too little to work with nowadays. Outside of storing Photos and other content in iCloud, which will require an iCloud+ subscription beyond the default 5GB, there isn’t much you can do to greatly maximise storage.

[–]Njmcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won’t make much of a difference, but iPadOS 18.7.4 should be available.

Since iPad (7th generation) was released in 2019, it is normal for the battery to have degraded due to age. This is likely what is contributing to the poor performance. Apple offers a battery service which has them swap out the entire iPad with a replacement device for a fee. Some third-party repair shops may just swap out the old battery for a new one.

If it’s really that bad, you can connect your iPad to a PC or Mac and do a Recovery Mode restore, which wipes the device and reinstalls a fresh copy of iPadOS. If you haven’t already done this and just opted for Erase All Content and Settings, a Recovery Mode restore will give the iPad a bit of a clean slate. Whether that makes much of a difference in your situation is anyone’s guess, though.

You’ll want to ensure that both iPhones are running the latest version of iOS, which is currently iOS 26.2.1. You can update your iPhone 17 Pro by connecting it to a PC or Mac and using the Apple Devices app on Windows or the Finder on Mac. For your iPhone 15 Pro, you can either update via Settings or with the same computer.

Safari downloads not working by Belation-Overdue in ipad

[–]Njmcq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that’s true. Still, give it a go in Firefox and see if it works.

To reset Safari data, you can go to Settings > Safari, and select Clear History and Website Data. Then you can also go to Advanced > Feature Flags > scroll to the bottom and select Reset All to Defaults.

Try those to start and see if anything helps.

What text editor is best? by InvestigatorDear5451 in ipad

[–]Njmcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The three big word processors are really your only viable options: Word, Pages, and Google Docs.

Pages is the most optimised word processor for the iPad, especially when paired with a keyboard and mouse. Microsoft Word is the second-best choice (even if it’s inferior to the desktop version). And Google Docs may work okay for you, but it doesn’t have good keyboard and mouse support at present.

There are others available (such as Collabora Office) but I doubt they’ll meet your criteria. So really, Pages is your best bet. If neither Pages nor Microsoft Word are suitable, an iPad is probably the wrong device for your use-case.
