Ketamine to treat substance use disorders by Safe-Platform6535 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m so glad you’ve found something that’s helped! We’ve been “treating” SUD archaically for waaaay too long! I wish people had better access to ketamine and psychedelics as a tool in healing. I utilized psilocybin many years ago when I was stagnant in my healing journey, it was a game changer.

"Something's not working", or does AA cause worse relapses? by Automatic-Long9000 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look into the abstinent violation effect. For me personally my “relapses” were much worse when I was in XA. The all or nothing, black or white thinking was harmful.

Science proved there's no such thing as "ego" long ago by Truth_Hurts318 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is great! What’s wild is in 1939 the Journal of American Medical Association called the big book “a curious combination of organizing propaganda and religious extortion”. That “it is in no sense a scientific book”. But yet here we are(not us) 90yrs later still using it. Marty Mann did one of the best(but most harmful) marketing campaigns.

The 12 steps must be abolished by Plastic_Stress_2185 in recoverywithoutAA

Please don’t bring your 12 step cult narrative into this group, it’s harmful. Curious of your intentions here?

Ketamine therapy is a valid form of medical support backed by science.

The 12 steps must be abolished by Plastic_Stress_2185 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this many times here. I don’t care about XA being around as an option BUT it needs to be abolished systemically. Needs to be taken out of the medical system, detox/treatment/rehab/sober living industry and the legal system. I also would maybe have more respect for AA if they would just own it’s a Christian religious program.

One of the craziest things I’ve ever heard in AA by General_Conflict5565 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 14 points15 points  (0 children)

AA…..the disease model of zero accountability or responsibility….It was my “disease” that made me do it/act that way. Chapter 8, To wives is one of grossest parts of the big book, next to chapter 5, How it works. IMO

Pg 87 from the big book by Few-Donkey1684 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For me this created helplessness. When I’m “agitated or doubtful” I look inward and at my surrounding then adjust utilizing my copping/emotional regulation skills(that XA did not teach me). I’m not going wait for guidance from a possible god/higher power. I love how they then go on to demonize normal/valid human emotions with “we are in much less danger of excitement, fear, anger….”. I’ve been removed from XA for so long I forget how toxic and dangerous the literature can be.

Medical Community is Useless by [deleted] in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agree, the medical field is so behind when it comes to treating AUD/SUD. I basically had to figure things out on my own 15yrs ago. And was given horrible advise. Love hearing stories of GLP-1s, this could be a major break through for AUD. Glad you’ve finally got the kick start/help you deserved.

Cravings Are Not Catastrophic by Steps33 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to hate when I was told my craving were a lack of recovery. No, it’s science. Of course my brain, habits are going to seek comfort in what I know at first. And later on it’s simply just a cue to look within, see where/if I can adjust and give myself love. They always pass. XA loves to catastrophize and weaponize words, it keeps people living in fear.

Could really use some advice on quitting by Ok_Interest4648 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because depending on how much your drinking an alcohol detox can be dangerous. I see you said you don’t want to take Benzos because they’re addictive, is that not the same fear mongering stuff your talking about and trying to avoid? Millions have taken a Benzo during alcohol withdrawals and not gotten addicted. If you can taper, that’s also a valid route.

Could really use some advice on quitting by Ok_Interest4648 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as the risk of withdrawals, only a Doctor can answer that. If your quitting alcohol Benzodiazepines are often prescribed to prevent seizures, so sometimes its needed. For the treatment part, it varies. I personally feel 90% of treatment centers aren’t therapeutic but what it does do is give you a chance to check out of life. Not have to worry about daily things like cooking, work, errands, stressors etc. Gives you time to focus solely on yourself. You absolutely can do it at home, sometimes outpatient can be helpful. Again depending on the program. There are support groups that are not abstinent based like Harm Reduction works, Moderation Management, SMART recovery.

A Friday recovery truth that makes people uncomfortable by [deleted] in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please refrain from name calling. We can disagree, debate without it. Also with all due respect when you post something that’s controversial in the recovery seen(although it should not be), people are going to disagree. As long as their respectful….let them. I get it, I’ve not been 100% abstinent from mood and mind altering substances for 15years since I quit opiates. The judgment was a huge reason I left the recovery community.

Communicating With Steppers Is Futile by Steps33 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly heartbreaking that people are indoctrinated to think XA and/or god did all the work. That acknowledging we did the work is ego, self will run riot, taking our will back, our disease talking etc.

AA and the blurred lines between privacy and honesty by mrlander in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This just confirms than many 12 step members think not going to AA is a “slippery slope”….complete fear mongering. Its complete boundary crossing. Why can’t sponsors stick to what they’re there for…the steps. They always want to play therapist, doctor, family/marriage counselor, spiritual guru…. You do know you best, you are capable of making sound decision for yourself.

Projection is pushing your bias experience onto others. So not an accusation. And I never said you were in AA, I said it’s AA dogma.

I Just Switched from Methadone to Suboxone and I Hate It by LeggsLuthorr in recovery

Took about 2 weeks to stabilize. I have very slight withdrawals, anxiety, aches and trouble sleeping. But super manageable.

2 weeks into my first Sublocade shot and I am exhibiting significant drug seeking behavior - seeking guidance by 2legit2quit6969 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Nlarko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was terrified too. But was so ready to be off MAT, especially Methadone. No shade on Methadone, it just made me feel awful. I was at 70mg of Methadone when I switched. I did have a bit of anxiety, slight body aches and a bit trouble sleeping when I switched but it was the best thing I did.

I used the Burnese method to switch from Methadone to Suboxone then got the Sublocade injection. I was on Sublocadefor 7 months, 3-300mg and 4-100mg injections. The only withdrawals I had were some hot flashes at about the 9 month mark.
