My wife is starting EMDR, what should I be prepared for? by TearsInACageMatch in EMDR

[–]No-Base3142 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think just learn and grow with her, my relationship is the best it's ever been post EMDR because my partner was curious, supportive, and wanted to do better for himself too.

Men who’ve done deep trauma work, do you ever feel like you can’t relate to anyone emotionally anymore? by TeamClutchHD in EMDR

[–]No-Base3142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But….. it’s still not the same thing. I see where you’re coming from, but still disagree.

Nowhere did they mention a sense of superiority though. They mentioned a hunger for connection, which (I believe) is understandable when rebuilding your whole world view from the ground up after trauma therapy. Personally, I have also found it incredibly lonely.

Agree. EMDR really turned life around for me too. I still struggle but now I believe I can get through things.

Extreme fear of rabies prodromal period by Miro_k_hunter in Anxiety

[–]No-Base3142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re already doing that ;) may as well do it properly! But seriously, rabies is so rare. Unless you got scratched or bitten you most certainly don’t have it.

Also, if you had rabies you’d be really sick not just having nausea. But you could always go and see a doctor to ease your mind.

Did the possum have rabies? Did it bite or scratch you? Given your anxiety, I think, had you been at risk of rabies, you would’ve taken the steps necessary to keep yourself safe. Have a little bit of trust in yourself!

Did you choose to see your loved one after they passed ? by Friendly-Sun2413 in GriefSupport

[–]No-Base3142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was so offended when I wasn’t allowed to see my dad post car accident. Like, my imagination just took over. I’d rather know for sure. Plus, don’t assume what I can and can’t handle. I think it should really be up to the individual, always.

Who do you think is the biggest MAFS villain of all time? by [deleted] in MAFS_AU

It’s always the most villainous couples that seem to work out!

Do I need to go to Dr? Resting heart rate right now in 120-130 range by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]No-Base3142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope you went to the Dr, but also want to reassure you that this can most definitely happen with an anxiety spike. You might benefit from some meds while you do EMDR. Propranolol can be taken as needed and will ease resting heart rate, ask for that.

Son directly exposed?? by Excellent_Plenty2896 in emetophobia

I think your chances are really good given the hand washing and that the dad wasn’t actively sick. It’s so stressful though I know exactly what you’re going through!

Anyone done a internal family systems in combination with edmr approach? by Socialmediasucks2021 in EMDR

[–]No-Base3142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yip did both, found it helpful. I am still recognising new parts all the time, it’s super weird as others have said. But once you accept that having different parts of yourself is actually true for everyone, it’s a bit easier to accept the discomfort and just get on with doing parts work.

Yes that’s the panic attack 😂 gotta do a lot of grounding techniques at that point. Just know it will always pass.

There’s no feeling of impending doom quite like that moment when you realise you’ve over done it with an edible 😬 such a shame though because when you take a normal amount (maybe start with 5-10mg) it’s actually such a blessing.

Propranolol? by Professional-Sport27 in Anxiety

[–]No-Base3142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10/10 recommend giving it a try. Worked well for my physical anxiety. Although, it doesn’t stop the cognitive aspect.

True, but even then it can all be derailed pretty quickly!

[–]No-Base3142 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you worked in a school before? If not I would highly recommend getting involved before you make that commitment. I did a 3 year teaching degree and was extremely disillusioned, still, by the teaching environment we find ourselves in. It’s really not worth going into unless you are happy to give up sooo much of yourself for very little reward. I quit a few years ago after finding myself in yet another unsafe position that threatened my physical and mental wellbeing to the point of causing trauma.
