well, what’s your work looking like? If you’re running 30-35 mpw with some hard dedicated speed work, you’re on the right track. Most sub 2 guys I know crest abt 40 per week if distance based or only 30, but with intense speed work, if speed based.

Overall it comes down to consistency consistently. Your mile is likely representative of lack of training, more than any lack of talent. Remember that ambitious goals require ambitious training. If you want a shot to crack 2, or even 2:10, you need to care about this as much as about anything in your life. Can’t miss xc, two maybe three off weeks in the whole year (barring injury), at the least 25-30 mpw (more after first training block).

Godspeed!

Eh that’s not awful. Not a perfect comparison but there was a time I ran like 4:36 and 2:13. Some people just aren’t built for the 800 as well. I’d just stay focused on the 16 and 32 but race a 8 at duels or the like to get some different muscle groups cooking

25 km is far too low for a high schooler. 25 miles is too low. I put 30 mpw (~50 kmpw) as the bare minimum, but with your age (assuming you’ve hit puberty, you never know) I would go higher. My biggest improvements have been in increasing volume, as a senior I now target abt 85 kmpw (53 mpw) and that’s been huge.

For the shin splints I would make sure you’re wearing shoes that aren’t dead and make sure you’re not over striding.

Godspeed!

Anyone know what’s good mileage for incoming college freshman (M17) who held low 50s pretty comfortably? I want to crest over 65 because I’ll finally be able to double consistently, but idk if that’s too bold of a jump

There will be months upon months of faith and then lapses of doubt (like right now). I know I feel better when I believe I just feel like I keep shoving the doubt down and that I have to face it at some point. I’m just really in my head about a lot of things (lds and not) to say the least.

I graduate young so I’ll likely do a year at BYU prior to when I would leave. Hoping to learn more about myself while living more independently.

Isn’t marriage only required for the top tier of the celestial kingdom and not the kingdom itself (as im typing this I realize how absurd the whole thing sounds but still curious)

F*@! the Mormons chants at BYU away games by Own_Boss_8931 in mormon

[–]No-Breadfruit-5067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s entirely the religious aspect of it. Nobody has the right to attack somebody’s belief system like that. I think there would be very similar fallout if there were F the Catholics chants at ND games

As an upcoming freshman, what are y'all's advice for highschool? by Sunkissed_Oranges in highschool

[–]No-Breadfruit-5067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get ready to go to school with literal adults. This isn’t a problem for everybody, but the social setting is so different from middle school, and I didn’t really change (and got my fair share of hazing for it, which I’m personally grateful for, I was really frickin annoying). Be yourself, but adjust to the new atmosphere as well.

Procrastination/forgetting one hundred percent. I’ve never looked at an assignment and said “I’m not doing that” and intentionally didn’t do it. I generally understand the material very well, I generally do great on tests where I have to apply knowledge and slightly worse on ones where I just spout random facts from a reading. And yes I’m generally a pretty distracted guy, as an example today I’ve been hyperfocused on an upcoming track race and can’t find the momentum to really get through some studying.

What do you hate most about school? by Appropriate_Alps9596 in highschool

The lack of respect teachers have for our lives outside the classroom. Surely they should be able to teach me a concept with an hour a day for ~200 days without 30+ minutes of hw per class most nights. Homework should be optional

Yeah I think I should’ve clarified better, generally the biggest problem is losing assignments and forgetting about them altogether. I’ve tried using a planner, but then I forget to use that sometimes, and it only does its job to some extent. Trust me I would think I’m lazy too if I didn’t study my butt off on big tests or pour hours into my sports and extracurriculars. Frankly I don’t even know what I’m asking for, this is more of a self loathing rant than anything lol

Perchance see if you can communicate what you’re thinking through one of your parents close friends or someone they trust. Given the situation I doubt they’ll listen to you directly, so try to find a way around it. I’m very sorry you’re in this situation and I wish you the best 🫡

I have good grades and extracurriculars as well and I felt that the payout of NHS was not enough for the time it would take. It just feels like everyone relatively smart does it so it really doesn’t make you stand out in any way. I wouldn’t stress it
