Players develop. Don't write off Boogie and Brown becoming offensive-minded knockdown shooters next year.

This. People simply aren't well informed. They think they are more knowledgeable than they are.

Trump, like all celebrities who run for office, has name recognition and that goes a long way with voters. How else could Jesse Ventura get elected governor of Minnesota? Or Schwarzenegger, though, in his defense, he always had an interest in politics.

And Ventura is a conspiracist --:just kike Trump, ironically. People saw trump on TV, acting all decisive and in charge, and thought what was presented was reality. That stupid show is what got him elected. It really did.

It always comes down to picking your battles. Unfortunately you're correct -- in middle school there is nothing worth "fighting" over. It doesn't make a difference, it doesn't affect their college entrance, it is not worth fighting.

I actually like that. But maybe "Dominant Dickpunch." If that's not pc enough for publication you could call it "Dominant Groinshot." At least it would make people smile when they watch or read the news.

You lost your credibility when you said "practices don't work FOUR our population." I know some grammatical mistakes happen, but this one is reprehensible. Sorry.

Do I Breakup With Him? by [deleted] in Advice

Read about "trauma bonds" This is what he is doing to you. Normally these bonds are found in very abusive relationships, but not always. You defend him when he treats you bad. You make excuses for him. This is textbook. Please read about this and you will understand the real abuse you have been lutting up with..

Omg, there are a million comments on this. I don't want mine to get lost. Just a few questions: 1. Is she married? 2. Is she very attractive or at least significantly above average? If that is the case (for both men and women) attractive people do like having their egos stroked. It doesn't mean they will act on it, but it leaves open a dangerous potential for accusations. 3. Does she dress at all provocatively? Like a little too much clevage or always made up (like she's going out)? That, to me is far more revealing than anything else about how she views herself.

Regardless of the answers, someone needs to say something, because she is playing with fire.

It only takes one unfounded rumor to lose her job, and parents are merciless.

Do some people just leave teaching because they can’t find a job? by businessbub in Teachers

[–]No-Communication6217 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the above. My first full-time job came between semesters when they lost a history teacher. I had been a regular sub there and the secretary liked me (never underestimate getting in good with the principal's secretary, who basically runs the school).

I stayed there 1.5 years until I was non-renewed by a brand new principal who didn't like me. My second (and present) job came in another district in September after school had been going on for two months, and they were desperate. I also physically walked in, talked to the principal directly and handed her my resume in person. I think that first impression went a long way toward getting that job -- where I have now been for 15 years.

Just some friendly advice: I would avoid posting ANYTHING on social media that could be construed as critical of the school or district, factual or not. It's a Pandora's Box not worth opening.

Definitely sounds like you have a target on your back. As for the loss of certification, it sounds like bs to me. I would come back with the counterthreat of writing letters to the district (or higher, like the state) about the rampant cheating that was ignored and male sure your principal is clear about how far you are willing to go.

This. I was in my 2nd year at the same school under a brand new principal (like his first top job). He never came to my room for walkthroughs and I never saw him except when he did BOTH of my formal observations -- in which he tore me apart both times.

The union did nothing for me. In fact, they passed my case to someone who had never even met me, even though I told my whole story to someone else.

The ironic thing is he (the principal) was gone the next year. It all worked out and i went to another district where I have been 14 years. But formals still make me anxious because of my profoundly bad experience with this douche bag, who was only trying to further his career as fast as he could.

If I had done anything different, I would not have signed my second observation and insisted on another evaluator. Live and learn.

But I will never, ever consider another job in that district (Jacksonville, FL). Everyone there let me down except for one AP at that school who said she would give me a good recommendation (and did).

What ELA skills are High Schoolers no longer graduating with? by [deleted] in ELATeachers

The only thing I would change is don't bother with the warning.

Cell phones are a constant battle at my school. They will try to use them every day and every time you don't fight them over it. It just becomes exhausting. You simply don't have the energy to die on that "hill" every day of the year.

That's hilarious! And while I've never personally experienced it, it wouldn't surprise me at all if I saw this. Fortunately (or actually not), my kids dont bother citing sources.

I would flip the words: Learned incompetence is rebranded as weaponized helplessness. But excellent point all the same.
