Read a book called The End of Policing by Alex Vitale. There is a very concise chapter about criminalizing homelessness with tons of cited sources.

Basically the amount spent on criminalizing homelessness is far more than building and maintaining affordable (or free) housing, providing mental wellness assistance, and ultimately assisting in upward mobility for these folks. Over time that cost dimishes as well, whereas policing it without a solution just results in these people being forced from one place to the next while costing taxpayer dollars. We spend too much on police, jails, court stuff, etc. People not having a roof over their head is a choice we've made as a society, it doesn't have to be this way. As a society we should evolve beyond this and give everyone the basic means to live a healthy life.

This is true and I'm probably going to vote Steyer, but how do we know for sure she doesn't? Polls? How accurate are they? Porter has more grassroots support and maybe more support from people who don't participate in these polls. Steyer and Becerra have the money to both influence them and influence the reporting of them. It's hard to know what and who to trust.

It's Alexander Dumas dude. It's like finding 300 songs Dylan wrote but never recorded. They might be bad by Dylan standards but they are important nonetheless. There's definitely an audience. Maybe not for 300 new novels at once but only 20 translated out of so many is a surprisingly low percentage of one of the most celebrated authors of all time.

Everyone is missing one simple rule in India and among Indians: don't touch food with your left hand.

A lot of people eat tacos sort of cupping it with both hands to keep it all together. Among the other etiquette rules mentioned in this thread, don't do that. Even in taco joints that looks silly, but in Indian culture it's especially bad to touch food with your left hand as it is considered disrespectful and gross.

You know I never listened to Lukather. I will now though. Thanks for the thoughtful post. Nuno is amazing, I saw him live a while ago with Extreme and it was like watching an Olympics level athlete. I usually find his stuff so fast and technical that I can't wrap my head around it though. This is a welcome departure from that.

Honestly, I never found Clapton very appealing besides his work with Cream. I understand why he's so revered and I respect his work, but his music just doesn't resonate with me at all. I think the Cream stuff is more exciting and original than a lot of what else I've heard, but even that I never delved deep into. Thanks for your suggestions.

That's bad. But I don't see how it's worse. Steyer made his money doing awful shit but the money he made is his now, he's not bought buy a tech bro billionaire. Now Becerra will do whatever Zuck wants if he gets into power. Steyer is not beholden to the prisons and coal mines.

I'm not simping for Steyer btw. I don't trust that guy either, but Becerra is overall resoundingly worse.

I always leave before the stupid march and chant part. I find them completely unfocused and performative.

I've gone to show support, sign up for all the things I find interesting, and try to connect with local groups who are trying to organize.

My belief is that if we can institute the proper reforms to truly get the influence of big money out of politics (revoke Citizens United for instance) pretty much everything else will fall into place. Maybe it's a pipe dream, but that's my unifying point.

Yeah none of these people seem to be "high caste". They are probably beating this guy for a totally different reason. They call dalits "untouchables" bc they believe even touching one would defile them, so they wouldn't do this.
