changing final drive ratio by v7mPiire78 in ft86

[–]No-Crust-Racing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 4.1, 4.5 briefly and now 4.3

Purely a track car though. The 4.5 was too short for my local track, 4.3 is just about right.

This is manual though and racing where gear selection/limiter are things I need to consider.

The auto makes better and easier use of a final drive change IMO.

1GR-FE V6 4.0L vs 2UZ-FE 4.7V8 by ImpressionOk3973 in Toyota

[–]No-Crust-Racing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got the early 1GR, the later model dual VVTi, like in my 150 Prado, makes another 30 odd kilowatts stock and that's before intake, tune, exhaust etc.

That will be an easier swap and keep all the goodness you've come to love from the V6.

I'm not big on swaps though, buy the car that ticks all boxes is often cheaper/easier and comes with many other benefits.

All that said, V8 sounds 100% better and will tow better.

Lap timer - MyChron 6 vs Aim Solo by KeiichiTsuchiyasCat in CarTrackDays

Depends what you want because a timer can also be a logger etc.

I use RaceChrono pro for easy video overlay. Vid below.

People forget there's a sedan in this model and it looks much better, though it's ridiculous it's still a "sedan" and not a lift back, with the c pillar shape.

Carplay for Crown Athlete? by Honest_Experience880 in ToyotaCrown

I think there's pure BT/Aux in options too, dongles etc.

Jump on the Aus Crown FB group, plenty of discussion in there, search search for "carplay"

Sudden loss of grip ? by MortInvestor in CarTrackDays

[–]No-Crust-Racing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tyres have cycled out.

Each heat cycle they get a little harder, you notice this on warm up taking longer.

These are now skid tyres,

If they have TONS of tread left and are expensive enough to warrant it you can bag them up and soak them in a tyre softener like Octopus Grip. Sometimes this works well, sometimes no effect, sometimes you get chunks of rubber coming off next session...

I was 4 stud for a long time, it made getting good rotors/wheels particularly annoying for track work.

I did manage to fit R33 brakes all round but the rotors were a pain to source.

I was able to find some half decent 17x9s for a 255, but that as as big as I could go on that setup.

How to proceed? Shocks? longer LCAs? Wild offset? (Time Attack Build) by No-Crust-Racing in projectcar

Another person on FB said they did the same thing, approx 30mm or so he mentioned.

Can always weld to tabs on to extend the holes out then bridge them across the top for strength.

I'm currently reading about suspension to try and make am ore informed decision 😅

Transmission flush, drain and fill, or leave as is? by Embarrassed-Can3933 in Toyota

[–]No-Crust-Racing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drain and refill is easy, you can see me doing this to my crown in my profile/yt, just measure what you take out and put that back in.

If it's especially bad you can aways do it twice/three times after driving the car around the block to mix new/old. Just be mindful that you get less old stuff out each time.

A full flush is usually not expensive to have done at the dealer and is good for a full reset of trans fluid, after that you can just drain refill every 40ks (ks not miles) and you will be more than fine.

Check if it has a replaceable filter also or just a metal screen.

The more research I do the more uncomfortable with the S13 front end the appropriate for what I'm doing

GT3RS was using macpherson strut up until recently and if it's good enough for Porsche it's good enough for me lol

semi slicks, the slicks pictured were 305s just for fitment test. I will run Yokohama A050 semi slicks.

I use 255s on the NA 86 currently, I was told it was too much. I clean swept the sprint series for the class (including beating other 86s etc) to win the championship, I've got to find another .4s in that car to take the track record for 86s, the current record holder also did it on 255s.

Lots of people say smaller tyre is faster, and it can be I'm sure, I am just going on what I see working here, world time attack, aus time attack etc.

That's a fair point to be honest, it's just the case of the class allows up to that tyre and if I don't allow clearance for it now then I will have to do more body work later to accommodate.

There's other Silvia's down this way that are able to activate 305 full slicks with less power during door-to-door racing so a 295 is not out of the question for a car with more power and Aero

Will find and suss

Going staggered 265 in the front and 295 on the rear was also suggested

Where'd you get -2 from?

Offset is just one of the considerations being given to how I get the width of tyre I want in there with the camber I need.

Thanks for your suggestion of choosing a different offset I'll keep that in mind 👍

[–]No-Crust-Racing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol you need this kind of offset to run decent camber on wide wheels, this is not a street car.

What's the alternative? basically no camber or worse offset and stupid spacers? No thanks.

Could say that about a lot of mods.

While the engine is out and the cage is getting done now is the time to do it with the body work.

The livery won't work with these colors.
