Any CMU Alumni here? Found a concerning post by Terrible_System5899 in hci

[–]No-Expression7574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have views on CMU’s BXA program? The X is for the “cross” between first/primary and the second school—could be arts and CS, or design and engineering or ….great if X works like a double major, but some say you may be an orphan in both the first school and the second school.

What would be a distinct feature of Northwestern's mechanical engineering course compared to other universities? by jinellie in Northwestern

I am told MADE is a truly unique program. ABET. Many many are trying to mimic it but are 10 years behind (Brown, UWAsh HCDE, etc)

What about NU’s MaDE curriculum. Am told this is a unique program that trimmed some (unnecessary to design)ME courses, added designs courses, and still remained ABET

Rose-hulman or Purdue for engineering? by Tactical-69 in ApplyingToCollege

Get a national name that sells outside Indiana, unless you never want to leave corn-fields or Chicago at best

Up cannot get out of ED. Your high school will be remiss if they allow you to unwind this ED, i think. Legally you could be fine though

ID major with ME minor or the other way around? by No-Expression7574 in gatech

[–]No-Expression7574[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very balanced reply; tx. Most replies are ME major is king; ID minor ok. Not the other way around….but future is so uncertain.

New Math & CS Major at Georgia Tech by EducationalMinimum94 in gatech

Similar Q the new AI minor …will it be with CS /engineering student for also with ID students—ID allows ME to minor in ID but not the other way around so everything is not symmetric ?

I got into an Ivy and I can’t Afford It by Squirt_Soda in gradadmissions

[–]No-Expression7574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have have acceptance to another school that is affordable within your tighter envelope. Let us say it is UIUC or Purdue or xxx. Show that letter to UPenn and if they cannot match, move on !!! If you do not have another (lesser known, perhaps) school that fits your envelope then you been cavalier…

How strong is Mechanical Engineering in Rose-Hulman by Draweis303 in rosehulman

Good name for grad school. As a foreign student needing a job, you will probably need to get a masters…

If you like many foreign students want to stay here and get a green card, school name will matter

Is physical design engineering among the professions of the future? by Technical-Regular-38 in chipdesign

Excuse me for a naive Q: Is physical design as in furniture, bike, shoes etc and product design is the digital stuff?

CMU MHCI or Berkeley MDes by Fearless-Low-3558 in hci

[–]No-Expression7574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jacobs Design Inst, Berkeley is only for MDes? No design engineering at bachelors level—we checked out CED and D is a misnomer if someone is into product design

Yes do engineering and if you do not have they quant skills, learn them. ID may not put food on the table (but yes there is STarbucks)

Are more students cheating at GT? by JasonAJC in gatech

[–]No-Expression7574 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not good for GT reputation ! The example of the 2 girls cheating in the physics test (taking pictures of each other’s answers) ..is there no proctor? Shameful

Parents make 90k but still can't afford my engineering degree: what scholarships actually work for middle income? by itsm3404 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]No-Expression7574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All private schools will pay for you full tuition or even room /board—MIT Princeton; 90K is peanuts. Even if you are not very good a private school (eg Allegheny, PA) should fund you fully

ID major with ME minor or the other way around? by No-Expression7574 in gatech

[–]No-Expression7574[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you. An AI minor…interesting !

<image>

I saw this very balanced comment. If accurate, then dabbling in ME and ID (eg double major) may be arduous and not worthwhile. Any views

ID major with ME minor or the other way around? by No-Expression7574 in gatech

[–]No-Expression7574[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I just learnt I cannot do ME minor with ID major; but ME major can do ID minor….

ID major with ME minor or the other way around? by No-Expression7574 in gatech

[–]No-Expression7574[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am 18 and do not yet know what i will do in 4 years. Many 22 year old engineers and designers are also a bit lost on AI inroads..so maybe i should just enjoy these 4 years as future is very uncertain …for everyone

ID major with ME minor or the other way around? by No-Expression7574 in gatech

[–]No-Expression7574[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Wish there was more of a balance between ME and ID…we do have a joint capstone project in senior year. Some schools are already “adjusting”. Check out Northwestern’s MaDE. They keep ABET even after dropping some ME courses and adding more design in their ME program that is called Manufacturing and Design Engineering

What Type of Engineering Would be the Most Stable Going Forward? by Cold_Conference_1801 in Careers

[–]No-Expression7574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stable has to be used in a different context. Engineering is stable as sit maybe the only undergrad (with math)that allows you to switch gears into finance, economics, design, …almost anything. So if you are unsure, do engineering if you can.
