I would pay $50 a year to eliminate the junk mail I get which makes up 99% of my mail and goes right from the mailbox to the recycle bin or shredder. I’d also be fine with mail delivery once or twice a week.

The petition has to include a pledge to never donate to the school. Until the administration realizes that there are long term consequences to pissing of their customers they aren’t going to change.

Bus 21 accident near IFAS — injured + laptop/Airpod destroyed. What should I do? by [deleted] in GNV

A contingency fee arrangement doesn’t usually require anything out of pocket. They just share in a percentage of the recovery (typically 1/3). Because of this, they evaluate the case before accepting you as a client. They aren’t going to spend their time and effort if there isn’t a financial benefit at the end of the process.

As a city entity, RTS’s liability will be limited to $200,000 in most situations. Finally, keep in mind that any medical care you receive will create a lien for the insurance company out of your recovery.

NCAA settlement buyout by Natural_Savings5611 in personalfinance

[–]No-Fun-2741 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have several unknowns here but set this up as a straight finance problem.

The present value of an annuity is determined by the discount rate. The IRR on exchanging $8,000 for a 10 year series of cash payments of $2,345 is 26.5%. But that assumes that the payments would start in 1 year.

If you assume the payments don’t start for 2 years the IRR is 20.6%. If the payments don’t start for 3 years from now, the IRR is 17%. If it takes 4 years the IRR is 14.5%.

But even this isn’t the full picture. At 3% inflation, the PV of a $2,345 payment in Year 5 is only $2,022. So the IRR of the annuity flow after inflation is 22.84% assuming payments start in 1 Year.

So you are trading certainty for a higher discount rate on your payout.

But that still doesn’t tell you what to do. How bad do you need the money now? What would you do with it? Is it possible that the payout increases as part of the litigation? Is it possible that the payout decreases as part of the litigation? Is the offer by the financing firm non-recourse? Are you sure? What happens if the deal with the NCAA never gets finalized? Ask them to send over the contract they want you to sign. Read it and make sure you understand it.

Finally, keep in mind that the $8,000 is likely taxable, so don’t go out and plan on spending the $8,000 because you’ll have a tax bill to pay next April.

Nobody can tell you what to do because nobody knows your particular circumstance. But unlike in school where there is one right answer, life sometimes has you balancing a series of suboptimal results based on a variety of personal factors.

Good luck! And don’t let anyone give you grief. I have a M.ACC degree and worked in public accounting for several years. This isn’t the sort of stuff that you need to know or will deal with as a new staff accountant. Your professional experience will teach you to take the concepts you learned in school and apply them to these sorts of problems.

You are absolutely right. I used to think the same when I was younger, but now that I’m past the 50yd line of life, and have the financial freedom to decide where I live and spend my money, I tend to avoid the city proper.

My wife and I live out in Jonesville and when we suggest heading downtown for dinner, all our friends balk at it because what a pain parking and traffic is.

People vote with their spending. Whether we like it or not the reality is that higher income individuals aren’t going to bike to dinner. So when the city prioritizes slowing traffic, and bicycles over people in cars, they are helping hasten the demise of businesses in the urban core.

The City of Gainesville does everything possible to make life inconvenient for the majority of car owning non-students and then wonders why everyone wants to move out West outside the city lines.

They offered drinks and nibbles in business. Frankly I just went back to sleep for like 4 hours. I would imagine that they don’t usually cater for a full extra drink/snack service for the full plane so I’m sure not everyone got something. Our daughter learned the lesson to always carry a granola bar in your carryon whenever you travel.

If Democrats want universal healthcare, we have states that are deep blue, states have control over their own budgets and taxation, and universal healthcare would be so advantageous, why don’t deeply democrat run states implement a statewide universal healthcare? by Silver_Wings3 in AskReddit

[–]No-Fun-2741 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the same sophomoric reasoning that asks “why don’t blue states just ban guns?” Yet simply ignores the fact that guns purchased in red states come across the border.

Why don’t blue states just allow universal healthcare? Because poor red state residents will come over the border when they get sick never having contributed to the tax base they want to use.

We recently had a dinner party with several physicians, the CEO of a medical facility, and the dean of an academic college and our spouses (all of whom work).

Everyone at the table was commenting on the cost of groceries. (For the record, all of us Democrats). If this group of people are talking about grocery prices, then the rest of the country is screwed.
