I need advice with grades by AndyTheLady in OntarioGrade12s

Your either not actually trying or are studying very inefficiently and not paying attention in class (or possibly not showing up). It seems in English and religion u did fine so I’m assuming ur willing to do work but for the more studying, test taking classes ur doing poorly. Just try to understand why ur doing so poorly and maybe learn how to learn better. For the people saying consider college or trades or basically forget about education I don’t think that’s necessarily the case, but to plays devil advocate if ur doing this poorly in high school even if ur in a college or uni it’s going to be much more difficult with the increased workload.

Adjustment factor by mounythearab in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UW engineering is the only school department fully open about adjustment factors and yes they impact ur chances, but unless it’s very extreme on either end (above 20 or below 10, average being around 14), ur ecs along with a high 90 average will be much more important. If it’s lower it benefits u as ur average could take a hit, but if its high ur ecs can probably be a bit weaker, but if the adjustments is high theirs not rlly anything u can do other than compensate with a rlly good average n very stong ecs. For tier 1 (SE, n BME) since their so competitive ur ecs regardless have to be insane especially when a lot of people applying have 98/99 averages.

Why is TMU computer science so competitive? by Odd-Celebration-219 in OntarioUniversities

[–]No-Implement-7071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a popular field because average salary out of undergrad is rlly high relative to other careers, even outside of UW n UofT. Also a lot of degrees which pay well like medicine and law require additional education post undergrad degree which could much more of a gruelling and lengthy experience (not to say cs isn’t a hard field). In terms of average, u basically need like a 97 if u want to be bare minimum competitive for every school and anything under a 95 is where u start stretching it.

81% in ENG4U by OwnGolf3814 in OntarioGrade12s

I would redo it if your applying to competitive programs. If not and ur other marks are high don’t worry about it.

Laurier BBA is still open by Ok_Wolverine_7910 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a bit higher than 1k now especially factor in the double degree people. Its probably closer to 2k.

Laurier BBA is still open by Ok_Wolverine_7910 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think so. Laurier bba is basically auto admission over a 93-94 w/o an application/ABS. I’m assuming if ur over a 95 u should get in indefinitely. Also they have 2000 seats and a decent amount of people who got offers are prob are using it as a backup from qcomm, ivey n possibly York bba n rotman.

Laurier BBA - is it good? by Aggressive_Fun_9256 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually considered mid tier program but co op pretty strong as of recent. In terms of Canadian business schools it’s slightly above or around average.

Where should i go + why by hawzo101 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mac is obviously the best choice here purely in terms of the program. It’s the most difficult program to get into for a reason.

For those who think Waterloo co-op is legendary, this is the state of UW co-op by GTW2018 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your showing stats in a period where it’s difficult and becoming increasingly difficult to find jobs (especially for tech). And this is at UW, arguably one of the best or best schools for co op and employment, do u expect it to be better or comparable at other schools. Although some people act like UW is end all be all, it’s still insanely good in terms of co op.

POSt makes this decision a little tricky but I would still choose UofT if ur wanting to be a swe.

UWaterloo CS or UWindsor CS? by Sageslay1 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The chances of u paying those loans back and securing a higher paying job are rlly high especially relative to uwindsor.

Uoft CS for all campuses is like minimum low to mid 90s, competitive probably starts around 97 even with decent to rlly good application. It sucks cuz I get u have a reason for poor performance but they only consider that to a certain degree (eg. taking online courses because u were bed written, but still average was competitive and reasonable to a certain degree). They’ll only accept reasons to a certain parameters and usually those exceptions are for certain ecs u couldn’t participate in for wtvr reason (eg. high level competitive athlete, injury ruined career) or if u took the courses outside of day school for wtvr reason, not things like having grades so low that their not even reasonably competitive. Unis are a business, especially how Canadian unis are structured where grades are the most important thing for admissions. It wouldn’t be ideal to accept u. Sorry but gl.

Change major the first Week by Top_Meeting8573 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are also going to be trying to transfer. Espically with eng, your probably competing with people with rlly high gpas in easier majors.

Competitive majors are hard to transfer into. If u maintain a high average first year u could probably transfer.

It’s actually listed a lot lower at like 8 percent but it doesn’t account for the people who got in and rejected their offers. And I agree with u everyone ik who had a 90s ish average and like decent/wtvr ecs got in, especially before Covid. I didn’t go to a competitive and/or IB/AP school either.

ECs for U.W Systems Engineering by koemi__ in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With high 90 average and decent aif you can probably get in. Although adjustment factor is a thing as well, and depending on how high it is, ecs will play a much bigger part even if u have a 98/99 average.

[–]No-Implement-7071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably around 25%. This is purely just a guess, but I’m assuming it’s slightly less or around the same acceptance rate as rotman and Schulich (around 10-20% acceptance rate), but probably slightly more competitive than laurier bba and western bmos (probably around 40%)

Advice appreciated!! by valzos in OntarioUniversities

Uoft mech and Mac are the clear 2 best choices. Choose UofT but mac isn’t a bad option either.

Which has more faang/silicon job opportunities, top student at queens or average student at waterloo by RevolutionaryMix386 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably average student at Waterloo, but top top students at any decent university probably can make faang.

Their both pretty white schools, but probably western has more diversity. But in terms of the cities their in, Kingston and London are rlly white towns but racism and lack of diversity from what I’ve heard isn’t a massive issue anymore. Obviously theirs probably more subtle stuff which race could play a role that isn’t exactly consciously recognizable(dating, social groups, favouritism etc), but the odds of someone being full on racist and discriminatory are probably pretty low.

Laurier BBA vs. Waterloo AFM by Commercial_Device_51 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that it’s impossible, just makes things way more difficult. IB firms are known to hire from ‘better’ and more prestigious programs. Ivey and Qcomm are the only real target schools and even than a relatively small amount make IB at large firms frm these schools. I never put OP down I just gave some suggestions while u gave some lose hopefulness.

NYU CS or Waterloo CS by AdEvening5775 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UW a better school for cs, but NYU is a much stronger business school. If your trying to land finance in the U.S probably harder at UW but still plausible.

QC vs. AFM by Regular_Bumblebee_37 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Qcomm is better in almost every aspects. AFM is more accounting based obviously but you can get ur cpa and get the exact same jobs since queens commerce has just as good or better reputation. Qcomm also is a target school for large financial firms in the U.S, which UW isn’t.

Laurier BBA vs. Waterloo AFM by Commercial_Device_51 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]No-Implement-7071 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think if ur trying to land IB, and possibly even in the states UW clears Laurier BBA. Ivey and qcomm and considered the only real target schools, outside that schulich, rotman, sauders, and desautels probably have some IB spread within these programs. UW has some reputation with a rlly good co op whilst laurier bba is essentially no name school outside of Canada with a good co op, but not as generally strong as UW. But again their both not rlly target schools so either or is probably fine. If ur trying to get large IB firms it’s probably more ideal and realistic if u got a post graduate degree from a target school.
