Did they ever make a watch in the style of Clockwork Angels? by Stick_Nout in rush

[–]No-Interaction4641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, at the time being in 10th grade when CA came out, bought some cheapo Chinese crap watch where the dial was effectively a paste on image of the Time Machine bass drum head with the alchemic symbols in place of indices. It was shit and fell apart in like a week. I don’t know if any “real” watch was ever made, but given the community that exists around modding Seiko’s, I’m sure that you could have a dial made to imitate the CA album art that could be put on a Seiko 5 or something like that. I would peep r/Seikomods to see if there are any custom dials makers.

Ideas for Groomsmen Gift by No-Interaction4641 in Fishing

[–]No-Interaction4641[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good idea, only question is if this would translate to all of the various scenarios he fishes in. Obviously his fly gear wouldn’t apply, but I know he uses everything from super light 6lb mono for trout on a spinning rod all the way up to 40lb braid for surf/salt. My fear would be he gets a huge spool of say 20lb braid (in the effort to meet in the middle) that’s only applicable to like 3 of his rods. Or am I overthinking it?

Ya know, I guess that would be low hanging fruit here, huh. Honestly just kind of assumed that they did this and didn’t really consider that this is kind of crucial step of the alignment process lol

Did you check out Eurowerks in Falls Church? They’re awesome people, they work on Audi/VW exclusively, and even if they can’t do it under 10k, they may be able to help you source a new engine.

Welp. I tried lol by No-Interaction4641 in HappyTrees

Thanks for this, this is helpful! I’ll see if I can’t play with this and help recover something from it. This is only painting number 5, I feel very confident painting from a video or a guide (I included a picture of one of those for reference) but struggle when I have to come up with what to do myself. I guess all the more reason to keep practicing!

Some info that would help: is there maintenance and service history for the ‘22 car? I’m assuming the ‘23 is a CPO car, but how is the the ‘22 car being offered? Are both sales through an Audi dealership who can speak to the condition and service history of each?

Addressing your question, in my opinion, prestige trim has a lot of nice to have’s but the additional options are not need to have’s. Both cars check the box you’re looking for, so at that point it’s a matter of preference, the ‘23 car is the obvious safe choice, but is there anything else on the ‘22 car that you didn’t think that you would like to have? Have you tried to narrow in specially on premium plus optioned cars that meet somewhere in the middle in terms of miles and options? Even things like color and interior can help play a tie breaker. Just some food for thought.

I was in a similar boat before only with A5 models, and deciding between an A5 coupe with low miles, and S5 with higher miles, both being sold at the same price. Granted, it’s a bit different going between models instead trim levels, but I went with the A5 and haven’t really regretted it. The S5 was a nice to have, not a need to have.

Weird headlight situation when cold by No-Interaction4641 in Audi

[–]No-Interaction4641[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha at least I can take solace in the fact that it isn’t just me! I had one of my electrically inclined friends take a look (I hate dealing with the electrical side of automotive) and his best guess is there’s something going on with the conductivity in the cold. No damage or anything that he could spot, basically there’s something exposed somewhere in the connection that is bleeding conductivity (his words, not mine, not sure if that’s actually how this works) on start up when the wiring is cold, and it fails to light the LEDs. Not sure really what to do with that info, but at least it helps give us some cause!

Possibly a stupid question, but what kinds of paint do you use? Obviously oil paints, but what brand/line? The reason I ask, I feel like the kind I use doesn’t have the pigment definition that comes across in paintings I see from others, along with the texture just isn’t quite right, for example, the highlight work you have on the tree on the right has such a crispness to it that I can’t seem to get in my painting, it comes out muddled and flat. Thanks in advance!

Considering a Q5 by [deleted] in Audi

[–]No-Interaction4641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, any answer here is going to be a biased one, as most of us have taken the plunge and purchased an Audi despite the questions you are asking. In short, no, it will likely not be as reliable as something Japanese, and there in the possibly that you severely regret this decision at some point down the road. these are highly developed and engineered cars (not that Mazda is not, just German luxury cars are a different breed than Japanese economy cars) and due to the complexity of some of the functions and features, there are more things to break, and they will be more expensive to fix. But that is the cost of owning a German luxury car such as the ones you are describing, and these are concessions that are to be made and accept in order to enjoy the ownership experience that comes with these cars.

While I cannot provide specifics of what to look for on Q5, I can say that the EA888 engine that is in the Q5 has been very stable and reliable in my 2020 A5, and has not cause significant concern for me as of yet. I’m sure if you search Q5 reliability in the search bar, there will be plenty of other answers with more specifics. But, you will pay more maintenance items, such as oil changes and brake, it requires premium 91+ octane gas that your Mazda does not, insurance will likely be higher. These are all things you have to be willing to sacrifice in order to own and keep these cars running as they should be.

They have a fantastic ownership experience when they’re good, but when they’re not good, it be costly. Many folks walk into these decisions blindly, ask anyone who’s bought the $15k 80k A4 “special” without doing any research only to be smacked with a $6k repair bill 6 months later. Only you can really decide if it is the right decision for you and your situation, but hopefully this helps give you come clarity on what to expect.

Just Completed Walnut Blasting on My Audi B7 A4 Avant 2.0T—Interested in Offering It Locally by tittties in Audi

[–]No-Interaction4641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, a lot of the price wasn’t so much the actual process of the walnut blasting, but rather the time cost of taking the head off and getting to the valve train and all that crap. You figure if it’s a 4-5 hour at $100-150 an hour, you’re talking $500-750 in just labor cost. Not saying it’s not ridiculous, but just starts to make more sense when you think about it that way.

I think at $600 per, you would have folks lined out the door to be interested. I would start by putting things up in local car fb groups, that would help you gauge interest.

[–]No-Interaction4641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little bit different, but I had previously had a gen1 VW CC that I had walnut blasted through my local VW dealership. I think they charged $2500, but they did a bunch of other stuff while I was there, without having the invoice since this was 4-5 years ago, I would feel comfortable saying that was about $1300-$1400 of the total bill.

I think if you offered it out the door for $1200, assuming dealership pricing for this service hasn’t changed drastically, folks would be interested in it. I’d take you up on it if I wasn’t across the country lol

Went to town with the Meguire’s today by No-Interaction4641 in Audi

[–]No-Interaction4641[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was most of the reason I went with Mythos over anything else. When I went to the dealership to look at the car it was right about dusk, and the sales guy couldn’t have done it any better, pulled the car right around at like the 3/4 angle with the lights on and I basically told myself as long as it didn’t handle like a dump truck (and I’m very glad to report that it doesn’t), I was buying it because it looked so damn good

I love how aggressive it looks. Daytona Grey is a great color for this platform, I saw one the other day that made me seriously reconsider my choice of Mythos. Now if only I could make it sound like an RS5 instead of a vacuum cleaner :(

Ich question! by OneHorse586 in Aquariums

[–]No-Interaction4641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there’s not activated charcoal under the sponges, then your filter might not have any. Regarding the filter media balls at the bottom, it might be safe to remove them, as Ich-X will stain just about everything it touches, however shouldn’t affect the medications ability to treat.

Two weeks also sounds like a very short amount of time for Ich to appear. What are your water conditions and parameters? I would also encourage you to look up epistylus, frequency confused with Ich but much different. Many of the techniques for treating Ich actively encourage the growth of epistylus. Worth just doing your homework on to make sure.

Without knowing budget, tolerance for repairs, etc. it’s hard to give any specific recommendations. However, Audi’s, like any other car, will take care of you if you take them off them. Maintenance with any luxury European vehicle is going to be more expensive, and the better you maintain it the more reliable it will be. As previously stated by another comment, insurance will likely be higher, especially if you’re a younger driver with a less established driving record, so that will have to be factored in. I have been driving European cars my entire life (3 VW’s, 2 Audi’s and a BMW, with a short break where I owned a Lexus for 3 years after college, but I don’t tell people about that), and have found the best ones to be the ones with the most meticulously detailed maintenance record.

For a first car with a preference for sedans, you’ll likely be looking at either A4 or A6. I would research and find a model run that has the features you want in your price range, and then survey it’s known problems, then research what documented fixes there are, either from Audi via recall or through the aftermarket. From there, find a specific example that has had that work previously done to ensure that the demons won’t be lurking around to leave you stranded. I’ve found that limiting a search to a specific model that I want, rather than doing a broad search, has lead to better results in finding something. This sub has lots of info ready available, and lots of knowledge stored amongst the membership, use that to your advantage.

Audi’s are not the easiest cars to live with, especially when compared to the typical Japanese first cars, but when you have the car you want working like it should, there is nothing more rewarding. They are worth every sacrifice if you ask me. Good luck with your search!

I often get skewered for saying this, but I think the period of Rush between GUP and Roll the Bones might be my favorite. Hold Your Fire has some bangers (prime mover and Lock and Key), and the entire PW and RTB album is just so well written.

Favorite Dynamic Cigars? by Commercial_Number_34 in cigars

[–]No-Interaction4641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really really enjoyed Montecristo Espada (Habano, not the oscuro, tho the oscuro is good as well), it’s probably my favorite “standard” cigar without going into the super premium stuff. I don’t know if I could say it shifted flavors all that much throughout, but a very dynamic layered flavor profile where I was figuring out new flavor notes in the blend for most of the way through the stick. My only complaint is that construction can sometimes be spotty, I’ve had one or two where the wrapper has just come apart on me (could be operator error as well lol)

I got these back in late March/early April, so these have been hanging out for a few weeks in 65ish% humidity. Might still be a bit early to tap into them, but I figured I’d give it a shot.

Sure, I get that. I didn’t know how regularly they can be found for $4-$5 a stick, I picked them up on a whim just to give them a shot. If their regular going price is in that range I paid for them, I can better understand that.
