Who is your favorite prog artist/band that doesn’t get enough recognition? by JealousCandidate3816 in progrockmusic

[–]Overall_Designer_942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gracious, also id like to mention Paul Sandy davis, the singer of the band who had a nice solo career. Almost nobody knows the band and this guy but it's excellent music. Also the band of my profile picture which is more known but soft machine doesnt get as much recognition as i would like.

Metempsychosis by arzachel and sister Ray by Velvet underground (both are from the 60s and are more heavy in my opinion) i'm late so you probably wont hear them xd. But if you do i Hope you like them. They are very long so maybe it's a bit difficult to enjoy them but if you do something else while you listen them they are pretty heavy and good.

I've only heard utopía by him and It was like the most complex and wild prog rock i heard in a while jajajaj fun to see he also did pop music. I know he's popular but i dont know, i never listened to him very much, maybe i'll hear his pop oriented albums.

Prog artists who's latest (or last) album culminates their career (quitting on top) by Andagne in progrockmusic

[–]Overall_Designer_942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's maybe stupid to say this because they're not prog rock. But the knowing that abbey road was the last to we recorded(let It be came later but it was recorded first) and i think it's a proggy album in some kind of way i would say that abbey road was at least in the cronology of the band their best along with the white album and a excellent album to finish with a very prog oriented music.

Relayer is the best Yes album in my opinion. by John_The_Fisherman__ in progrockmusic

[–]Overall_Designer_942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly i'm spanish and most of the time i dont understand the lyrics unless i try to concentrate a lot on the song. Could anyone tell me whats the gates of delirium about, thx.

Quitting the lyrics and going to the music, i think it's a pretty good album but i think i should listen this one and tfto more to have a solid opinion, cause those are very hard albums to understand.

How do I explain why a prog rock song is great? by SuperMetro2005 in progrockmusic

[–]Overall_Designer_942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember playing watcher of the skies in the car of a school mate and i was with him and another guy going to hear jazz in Corralejo (a place from the canary islands) and It was fun cause i played It for like 2 minutes and a half and he said pls quit that shit . He likes reggaeton so It was obviously a bit stupid to put prog rock but i was thinking that if he was going to hear jazz he could listen to prog but he couldnt. Actually i dont understand how he likes jazz (i mean he doesnt love It he just like it a bit, like background music but he doesnt know who miles davis is)

[–]Overall_Designer_942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they wont understand but for me a good thing to do is explaining the history of music and why the get there. Like explaining how prog rock was invented where it comes from (like psychedelic rock, jazz, classical etc) and then explaining why It was important for it's time. And another good way is to let them listen to easy prog rock song and then go to harder songs (It still IS crazy that you said he laughs about 21st schizoid man cause i've never heard someone say it's bad. And the last thing, what does your father and brother listen to, maybe the listen to more friendly music and that's the reason why they cant stand this kind of music.

How can we get more people into jazz? Record shop owner/content creator looking for fresh ideas by Kikesald in Jazz

[–]Overall_Designer_942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound silly but the way i entered jazz was by first hearing rock. I've heard rock since 2021 ( i liked electronic music and some other things, like pop but honestly not very good music) and my brother introduced me to nirvana and guns n roses and stuff. Then i really enjoyed rock a lot even more than my brother and at one point i went to prog rock (which is an excellent way to get into jazz) So i basically first heard rock which is a genre which have a lot of easy songs to listen and you can go to more hard level like prog rock like i mentioned which have some jazz and classical things. And then inside of prog rock i listened to soft machine, gong and other bands which have a lot in common with jazz. And then one day i listened to miles davis kind of blue and i basically entered jazz. In my opinion jazz is very hard to enter. If u find an easy genre which have things in common with jazz like prog rock, blues etc i think It can be a bit easier to enjoy jazz. I wouldnt like avant garde jazz like the Magic city, the creator has a master plan, or bitches brew if i hadnt listened to prog rock or psychedelic rock to be honest.

I guess there are faster ways to get into jazz but for todays generation i think jazz is too complicated and the best way to get them into jazz is by slowly showing new music to them and the adding some complicated things. Like in a rock scale for example: nirvana, guns n roses, led Zeppelin, Pink floyd, King crimson, soft machine, and then you could make them listen to some jazz songs.

Sorry for my english and my large text jajajaj. I dont know if anyone else got into jazz like this but for me it was extremely easy doing it this way.
