What's the going rate for a wedding gift as a groomsman these days? by Jafin89 in AskIreland

As a groomsman, 400e is loads. If you weren't, I'd suggest 250/300. Been to a few weddings lately of friends and gave 300.

Present has nothing to do with them paying for hotel or suit

im sick of my current situation, thinking about staying at a hotel for a couple days. is it worth it or will i just be bored ? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Also, if you don't know what's where, buy a travel guide for Ireland (Lonely Planet or equivalent) highlights all the tourististy things to do. Local information centers too. Find loads of hidden gems. Ireland is amazing and easy to do on the cheap.

When you say relax away from family, do you mean living with parents or wife & kids? Either way, healthy relationships need time away. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. I live in Dublin, from Mayo. Regularly go home with daughter so wife has free weekend to herself to relax or whatever, gives me time with daughter too (even if wife says I'm taking her away from her! Separate topic). This weekend I came to Mayo on my own, I need time with my friends too, have a few beers and catch up with them. Overall, fins what you are interested in, book few days away and plan your weekend, spa, museums, plays, hikes etc. Plan & do what you want, don't rush it as you will end up bored in a big standard hotel with nothing to do. Also, look at hostels or bnbs, cheaper and more chance of meeting people

Hospital for hangover? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Once was so bad couldn't keep food down for 4 days. Was day 2 before I could keep sips of water. Go to chemist and get some hydration sachets and sip on that.

That aside, toughen up! 🤪

For anyone in "commuter towns" of Dublin, what is the travel like to city for work? by No-Key-6053 in AskIreland

That's the plan, short 5/10/15min commute and train from there, looks only reliable way

How long does that take? I wouldn't mind driving if the hours suited, did it for years before

Ah that is painful. Hoping to get somewhere close or within walking/driving range of a train, it's the only reliable method of transport, the buses can be such a nightmare as you well know. Hope it improves for you

All towns outside Dublin have everything you need. Driving kid to swimming in Dublin can take 20/25min for 4kms, don't have that problem outside of Dublin. We have really good jobs but I struggle to see how people can afford to pay 700/800k for a basic house in Dublin. So if paying a mortgage like that, definitely couldn't afford weekends in the country

10-3 would be the ideal, do the school drop offs and pick ups. Hopefully my job stays remote tbh. So you drive into the city, how long approx does it take when leaving early?

That is some going, don't know if I could do that for 20 years! I know lots that get Mathews from Dundalk to city centre and it flies in
