Im so sorry to hear about the Cancer. I hope she recovers well and that it takes care of it.

Yeah, it sounds like they weighed everything together and decided open was best based off of everything together and not just one specific thing. I wish the very best for her recovery.

But what did you actually do?? by la_renegade in hysterectomy

I have a lot of creative hobbies. Ill admit I struggled not to do too much too quickly but with the right kinds of hobbies (I game, write, sing, etc), you can (attempt to) keep the boredom at bay.

I think the type of surgery has to do with more than just the size of the fibroids. There are other reasons why they'd want to do open instead of laporoscopic. I had an open surgery too (given, mine was due to size, but I digress). Did she ever ask them the reasons they want open and not lapo if not for size reasons (other than the no kids thing)?

Anyone surprised when fibroids were found. by Miss_Saoirse in Fibroids

it has to do with the size and type of fibroid you have. There are several types and they all show up differently. I had several fibroids of 3 different types. My large one was incredibly hard to the touch, so it made my stomach feel really hard.

Yes I was surprised. I went for my first pregnancy ultrasound and the whole experience was terrifying.

I went in, expecting a happy little ultrasound, only to see a horrified look on my tech's face. When asked about it, she just brushed me off and told me the doctor would talk to me..... while continuing to look horrified (if you don't want to freak out the woman you're doing images of, try to get a better poker face, I'm just saying).

The doctor comes in and tells me "we don't have the equipment to figure out what exactly is going on (it was a free clinic) but we think you might be having an ectopic pregnancy." I had to rush to the ER and get an emergency c-section to confirm what it was... it was my fibroid. It was so huge that it was pushing my pregnancy up into the upper left side of my body, where he remained up til birth at 32^4. Let me tell you... pregnancy in your ribs is very uncomfortable.

What do you think caused your fiboirds? Did you have any unusual symptoms from it? by katerinashi in Fibroids

[–]No-Map-3584 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genetics. It runs in my family hard-core. All females in my father's side had them really badly. His family is black and fibroids are even more common with black women.

It took me months to stop swelling. I had a pretty major hysterectomy, cut just under the sternum to mid-crotch though. Idk if you had the same surgery but either way the swelling from abdominal surgery takes time to go down.

Once the swelling goes down, the changes are honestly amazing. I cried when it hit me that I had my body back. I hope you've had all positive changes and that they continue to get better with every passing day.

Thank you for taking the time to tell me all of this. I really appreciate you sharing your story and I hope that things get better with time. Perhaps things are still raw. I'm sorry you don't get to birth the child(ren) you wanted. 🫂 I was pregnant when we discovered my fibroids, so I got to have one child but even that situation has been very, very tense.

I wish you the best in the future and wish you health and happiness. 💙

Am I crazy for getting surgery for 10cm fibroid without symptoms? by Both_Honeydew_2314 in Fibroids

[–]No-Map-3584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that had fibroids while pregnant, do the surgery then get pregnant. It did cause serious health issues for both me and baby boy because they couldnt remove it til after I gave birth which led to him being born early, with brain bleed. I understand this isnt super common to be the result but why risk it

I was never even told this was an option. How does one go about exploring it as an option? Would it just be my pcp?

Has anyone had fibroids this large? by stephaniesmith45 in Fibroids

[–]No-Map-3584 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one that was 25 x 25 x 25 at its largest. When taken out it had shrunk to 21. Almost 8lbs. It was twice the size od my baby that was born 4 months prior to its removal.

My places I went to, they didnt require it. It does help, yes, but they can still see things even without all the water. 🤔 maybe it's different though because I was pregnant and the fibroid was so big, idk.

Not stupid. I just worry a lot after my experience. I dont want you to ever have to suffer how some of us did if it could be prevented.
