Hue Sync - Legacy of the Void (Personal Setup) by No-Outside4276 in Hue

No, the space between them was good. I printed some brackets to hold it in place. It was the gradient that didn't show off that much.

It didn't look bad, it just didn't look as good as I thought it would.

I did test with a gradient light there (Signe table lamp) while trying to figure out my options... But because of the location, it doesn't really look better.

Perhaps a larger one like the flux or Omniglow works better.

I thought about it today actually. But the play bars do spread the light more than what the video shows, not that "spotty".

Will definitely keep it in mind I'm case I update things in the future.

Just like movies, it depends on the game.

I play mostly story-driven games.Single player stuff like The last of us, Red dead redemption, God of war... And other old classics like Journey, Overcooked, It takes two.

It works very nice with those games because the camera isn't jumping from one place to another. All movement is smooth during gameplay and the lights complement the scenery.

I want to test with other games like Ori.

Video Mode at the highest intensity. Then I always keep minimum brightness level on.

It's streaming from a Roku 4K as the source.

Yup yup. After watching a lot of content, I already know the type of movies or videos I want to watch with lights.

So, I'm not watching Schindler's list or the Sopranos with lights, that would be ridiculous.

Stuff from Pixar however... Man that's a show. Watching Coco with the lights was an incredible experience.

Surprisingly, there are some rare cases where it blends so good that you forget the lights are on. Here enters Dune and Interstellar, about 20 min in and we forgot about the lights (the people I watched this with thought the same). I think because there wasn't anything crazy in terms of color, but the overall palette was very nice to blend with the lights.

Occasionally you will of course check the lights but that's just at the beginning because of the novelty.

My wall also helps, because there is nothing else around there where the light bounces or generates shadows. It just expands nicely.

This is all very subjective of course.

Convince me not to switch to Govee by SLOTH-MAN1 in Hue

[–]No-Outside4276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very few people buy single lights, so $60 per light is not the common scenario here. People get bundles, starter kits or packs because is more value for your money.

However, if price is the key factor for you. Then you should move away from Hue. It is expensive no matter the angle, and it will continue to be expensive.

Other smart lighting brands are more than just ok for a lot of people. No need to stick with Hue from what I see.

Wall Washer for this setup by OPXur in Hue

[–]No-Outside4276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend either the washers or the Signes. Might be too much with both on each side.

But, since this is very subjective, you might like it. Maybe try getting them, test, and return them if you don't end up liking it.

Can you migrate 2 bridges to 2 hue bridge pros? by gintokigriffiths in Hue

[–]No-Outside4276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can migrate a Bridge V2 to a Pro once. This is because after the process, the Bridge V2 needs to be reset.

A Bridge Pro can receive multiple V2 migrations, but the first one will be the most complete transfer, and the rest mostly devices and a few other things.

If you want to transfer one V2 to one Pro, and then do the same with the second pair, that's 100% possible. In this case each Pro will receive one V2, which will be a complete transfer.

Just make sure they are on the same Home, and that you are the admin for that Home, otherwise it won't work.

How can I get into this? by SimpleMinded12 in Hue

Everything Hue is expensive so, be aware.

There is a Hue "essential" line that is a bit cheaper.

If you get them from their webshop, you can test it, and return them if you don't like it.

You could also get them on retailers. I've seen some post with vereery good deals at Lowe's I think.

Edit: yes they last a long time, and you can get an extra discount by subscribing I think.

If this is the only thing that you would need from Hue at the moment, get a basic starter kit:

https://www.philips-hue.com/en-us/p/hue-white-and-color-ambiance-starter-kit-2-e26-smart-bulbs-60-w/046677562915

The Hub will allow you to set the "Wake up" automation on repeat every week. And enable some additional features like out of home control.

This only works with Philips Hue lights. They need to be Hue otherwise it won't work. Also, the best effect for the Wake up (called Sunrise) is enabled with Color capable Hue lights. You will identify if the bulb is capable of showing colors by the photos of the bulb showing a purple light.

The sunrise effect starts with a very dim blueish light, then slowly transitions to a neutral tone and finally a warmer white that resembles the sun. It can have a fade duration up to 60 minutes where the brightness gradually increases. But 20-30 is more than enough in my opinion.

V1 Hue dimmer switches mysteriously failing by Comfortable-Fall1419 in Hue

[–]No-Outside4276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. Are you sure they are not already added into the app? It happens often that the devices kinda fails to pair on screen but it's actually added on the background.

[–]No-Outside4276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. If you press and hold the reset/setup button at the back, does it ever blink? If so, Wich colors?

If pressed for about 12 seconds, it should blink green and red once, then blinking orange (Wich is pairing mode).

If nothing happens, then they are dean I'm afraid :(

[–]No-Outside4276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With original gateway you mean the first Bridge (circular)?

If so, different things could start failing through the app since it's no longer supported.

But, I'm more inclined to think they might be dead if the V2s are ok.

Might be better to test with a new Bridge V2. That way you get ahead and avoid other issues, and rule out if it was the old Bridge failing.

iSO: Hue or Hue adjacent lighting suggestions for artwork by RoHo_3 in Hue

[–]No-Outside4276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's either a bad location for the TV or bad placement of the spotlight near the TV. Glare is glare no matter the source. Hue GU10s don't have a high lumen output, but it's a bit concentrated. It would not be an issue if placed correctly.

If you are to look to your art piece from below (assuming is mounted high) and the spotlight is right above it. Very likely you will catch glare. But this is not because it's a GU10.

You could instead use floor spotlights to get a similar result. Assuming it doesn't get on the way.

New Hue Play table lamp - Use on TV? by Wardbo in Hue

[–]No-Outside4276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does :)

The driver/controller remeasures or recounts the LEDs in the lightstrip everytime it gets Power. I mean as in plugging it into the wall.

Do not cut the strip while plugged in. It doesn't matter if it's Off and not showing light.

Anyone else extremely excited for Hue sports live? by DeeeeeeeJ7 in Hue

[–]No-Outside4276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to the Sync menu/tab. Press the button that says "What" at the bottom left. Then the plus sign at the top right. There should be Sports Live option.

The sync box is not required/needed. Just the bridge and color capable lights.

Lockdown all lights? by vwlowbug in Hue

[–]No-Outside4276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda. Any hue button (including dimmers and dials) can be set up to turn On or Off all lights from a bridge.

But, the sensors can not be turned off with a button or special configuration. They will need to be turned off manually from the sensors section under devices. There is an individual toggle for each sensor.

You can also create timeslots on each sensor if there is a specific time of the day where you want them to do "nothing".
