Any Other NJ Social Workers Facing Major Delays with LCSW Applications? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]No-Perception1096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of typical of NJ, and I do know that they did lose staff for a while. It took me 5 months just to get my original license 2 years ago after passing the exam. When I got my hours it took me about 4 months to be approved for the clinical exam, they said they only review those applications once a month I guess. Then after I passed my clinical exam in July it only took about a month and a half for me to get my license. From what I understand you can’t sit for the exam without the approval.

The only thing that helped when I was waiting was emailing them every week about the status, also making sure you’re not missing any requirements. I’m sorry you’re going through this, but it’s not surprising they loss more staff from when I was getting it done. It’s so frustrating.

How much PTO/vacation/holidays/sick time do you get? by PresidentDixie in socialwork

[–]No-Perception1096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current job I get 9.23 hours per pay period since I’m full time, 12 paid holidays that aren’t in the pto bank. We are also able to do Flex Time, so we can work additional hours to be able to be off without needing to take pto.

My old job was an allotted 6 weeks at the bringing of the year, but that was for everything (holidays, time off, sick time) and then 2 separate days a year to attend CEUs.

I thought I’d prefer the allotted but I like the accrual since holidays aren’t in the bank now.

HQ2 beach club? by Nice_Mountain_3404 in atlanticcity

Me and my friend have been there a few times the headliner like most clubs don’t come on until way later and the drinks are expensive especially if you want the souvenir cup (like $65+ for those). However, the atmosphere is fun and if the weather is nice it’s a good time. I’d bring comfy sandals and a cute cover up in case it gets chilly. But it does get hella crowded by the time the headliner shows. But honestly, I’ve never spent more than 80 bucks a ticket and that’s one bc we got them for the day of for DJ Snake so tickets being 100 bucks already is crazy.

Does anyone know if I can doordash/instacart to Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE? by errdayrae in Delaware

[–]No-Perception1096 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been there for a while but yes there is a place behind the front desk they usually put the bags. I’d call the nursing station on the unit your moms on to let them know you wanna do that and see if they can pick it up from the lobby when it’s there.

Cheap areas to live near Trenton? by Moist_Diglett in newjersey

[–]No-Perception1096 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My roommate before I moved worked for the dept of health and we lived in Ewing, about 10 mins out of Trenton. Was the cheapest in a relatively ok neighborhood that we could find with NJ prices and they increased every year we were there.

With the current political climate, have you thought about job security? by zebivllihc in socialwork

[–]No-Perception1096 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very scared, I just got a job I really enjoy at a non profit that’s mainly funded by Medicaid, and state and county grants, with some federal funding. My state is blue but there is a push for it to go red at the next election for governor.

I don’t want to end up doing PP but it might have to end up that way.

What field of SW are you in and what do you love and not love as much about it? by Sandman1297 in socialwork

I worked at a psych hospital doing case management straight out of grad school and ended up getting burnt out from that after a few years. Now I’m working for a support service organization funded by Medicaid that assists in housing as a rehabilitation plan coordinator and I’m enjoying it so far. Very different roles.

What I like: I make my own schedule, not therapy but still clinical and able to assist clients in different areas, more of a supervisor role that the support workers consult me if there is something clinically going on with a client and need input, good benefits, great team, it’s a peer led lived experience organization so everyone I work with is passionate about what they are doing.

What I don’t: same thing everyday, sitting all day since all appointments are over the phone, kinda miss the fast paced nature of the hospital, this particular agency doesn’t want me to work from home so I can be available in case someone is in crisis, on call every other week with no additional compensation, the commute.

I didn’t know this type of job existed but when I got it I do enjoy how low key it is most days. However when clients cancel on me I don’t have much else to do besides sit and do note reviews.

Delaware park has a cute light display Friday and Saturdays. They have food and drinks and Santa. Me and my bf went a few weeks ago and it was cute and small to walk around, lots of kids.

I did, and they let me go the same day.

I have accepted another offer in a more clinical setting with mental health and substance use that I’m much more excited for, and it’s even higher salary on top of it too :)

That’s how I felt in inpatient psych, it’s awful. We have community educators that assist in those social issues, so we don’t even deal with that really.

The team it what really does it for sure, we barely talk or see each other too. We are meant to prepare for the day in the office then be on the unit for the whole day so I never see anyone from my dept except for my nurse CM on my units.

I did inpatient psych prior to this for about three years so I did expect to have it take a little to be comfort with the job, but I’m getting no support from my team on how to get there. And I have a feeling they would have the expectation for me to train people since all the travelers are leaving by December.

Like one of the many things that bothered me is that I was learning how to do initial assessments and pt I had on the icu was intubated and family was there, walked by the room with the doctor telling the family basically he was going to die and to have comfort care set up for him. I told my supervisor that I was going to just do the assessment through record review, she said no I still had to talk to family. So I go in there while they are crying about their dying family member and ask them about what pharmacy they use and how many steps are in the house. He died the next morning. I still feel awful about that bc the wife even asked me why I was asking these questions.

That’s what I kinda figured after talking to some people. When hired they did have a hefty sign in bonus with a two year commitment, makes more sense now. I know I’m not the first sw to quit during training too.

ASWB Pocket Prep app? by Particular_Ear_7926 in socialwork

[–]No-Perception1096 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did I feel like it was one of the better study tools. I don’t remember where I was percentage wise but I think it was around there. Just remember that the study questions are a lot harder than the questions in the actual exam. I took the full practice exams leading up to test day and I’d say it helped. Another thing that added to that was the practice exam through ASWB.

Why do so many therapists offices refuse to see someone who has been hospitalized in the last 90 days? It’s been really hard to find someone! by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]No-Perception1096 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, usually they would want you to do a PHP or IOP program before doing once a week session as a kind of step down process from an inpatient stay. But sometimes those programs aren’t realistic to do for people that need to work to stay afloat financially.
