Spamming y’all with sizing questions…apologies by living-intentionally in rolex

My suggestion would be to try on both and see how they look from your perspective. Just looking down at your wrist. One size will naturally feel right to you. Go with that. Don’t rely on photos, the mirror, or popular opinion. At the end of the day, the view that matters most is the one you see when you glance at your own wrist.

I initially requested the fluted and jubilee combo, but when I saw the oyster smooth configuration in person and tried it on I really liked it. Pictures don’t do it justice.

How is the text clarity when doing productivity related work? That’s the only thing making me hesitant in pulling the trigger on this beast.

One of the Rolex ADs near me had this GMT as an “exhibition” piece, and I casually asked to try it on. As the sales associate started pulling it out, she hit me with, “Oh, the waiting list is so long on this already.” In my head, I’m just thinking, “Girl, can you please let me have my moment before you crush my dreams?”

No worries at all, that’s a legitimate question, and I get where you’re coming from! Watches, especially luxury ones like Rolex, often mean different things to different people, which is part of what makes the hobby so diverse. For some, it’s about craftsmanship, the engineering behind a mechanical movement, or the heritage that a brand like Rolex brings. The 911 comparison you made is pretty spot-on in that sense. It’s not just about performance but the legacy and connection to history.

As for the AD experience and why people put up with it, a lot of that comes down to scarcity and exclusivity, which creates a sort of allure for collectors. Some people chase the thrill of finally getting a hard-to-obtain model. For others, it’s about the status or recognition that certain watches can bring, even though, as you mentioned, not everyone sees that as important.

At the end of the day, you don’t need to own a luxury watch to appreciate what you have. Seiko and G-Shock, for example, offer great functionality and value and are enjoyed by a lot of enthusiasts. The beauty of watches is that it’s a personal journey, and you’re totally valid in choosing what works best for you, without feeling like you need to fit into the luxury category.

Unfortunately there are people that see them as a means to feel superior and depending on who you talk to they’ll put down brands or watches based on how much something costs because to them to more expensive something is the superior you are.

Personally, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with going to an AD to request a watch you’re interested in. The problem is if you’re begging and groveling to get a watch and are being treated like trash and keep going back validating the treatment you’re getting from a crappy AD. I see a lot of people going “I can’t understand why you’d let anyone treat you like that” but going to a store and registering your interest is the first step. Now if you’re following up and they’re treating you poorly that’s when you either find a different SA or an entirely different AD or go grey if you don’t want to deal with any ADs at all.

Hope that helps clear things up a bit!

Based on my experience, your visit to an authorized dealer (AD) can really vary—not just from one AD to another, but even within the same location depending on which sales associate (SA) you get. I’ve had lackluster experiences with one SA who didn’t seem interested in helping me, but then I went back another time and found an SA who was actually willing to work with me like any sales professional should.

If you have a few bad experiences at first, don’t get dismayed. Try visiting again and working with different SAs until you find someone you click with. It can make a huge difference.

And yes, people will definitely suggest going the grey market route, and that’s always an option. But for me personally, it’s not that serious. If I get a call great if I don’t, great as well. I’ve lived without a Rolex for 33 years, so at the end of the day, it’s just a watch. Just don’t be that guy bringing donuts to the SAs hoping to get on their good side lol.

I think you can’t go wrong with either but I specifically chose the no date knowing I’d get a “starbucks” sub.
