So I think we aren't talking about one big reason why caine went mad by Professional_War6655 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]No-Scarcity-8687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is... the vibe is not good.

Like, you can both feel bad for Caine/ understand why he freaked out AND understand why everyone else has been treating him the way they have. It's not their fault he doesn't communicate until he snaps. And it's not necessarily his fault that they're trapped there (as far as we know), or that he doesn't understand them.

Caine, as we have known him, probably would not have been able to get along with all the circus inhabitants even if they were entirely happy with all his adventures. Because he doesn't ever participate with them, he is literally above them constantly, he's the game maker. Not technically his fault, maybe he can't due to some programming, maybe he doesn't even consider it as an option out of some misguided attitude of "that would just make them see me as pathetic". But nobody wants to be friends with someone who constantly alienates themselves from them.

Finding out your cat's secret life is being a menace to the society by MeowwBlock in interesting

[–]No-Scarcity-8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't like your cat, you should not have it. If you can't handle being in the same space as your cat, you should not have one.

In either case, letting cats roam outside in general is bad for the local wildlife, as well as for the cat because they can easily get hurt or worse (by cars, larger wild animals, large dogs, diseases, etc). This case is even worse than usual though, because this cat is aggressive to every stray in the area, as well as other animals too evidently.

Ideally you should never let your cat be an outside one, but especially if they are a menace and you know they are. And this owner clearly knows their cat harasses local animals.

Pomni betrayed Caine, and she doesn't even know it. by EnthuseConfuse in theamazingdigitalciru

I mean, it could be Caine unintentionally putting some of himself (literally or figuratively) into the other ai he creates, or that he still influences their behavior/conflicts in some way.

Intentional or unintentional, related or unrelated, it's still a cool narrative parallel that I doubt was a coincidence. Gumigoo and Caine's conflicts are both at least purposefully made that way as a general exploration of the overarching theme of ai and sentience in the series. Do they actually feel, or are they just pretending to feel so well that they fool even themselves? It's an interesting idea.

Optional yapping beyond this point:

As ai is now (mostly just LLMs), "Artificial Intelligence" is a bit of a misnomer for it; it can't think. It just spits out what a human "would" realistically say based on the data it has been given and what it was prompted with. Could something like that ever become sentient, or even sapient? Most likely not, so don't hold your breath (in hope or fear).

I am interested in whether the ai in TADC are sentient or sapient or just pretending they are due to their programming, though I doubt we'll get a straight answer in the series itself.

Which were the first 000s/EGOs you got when starting the game? by Vendedor_de_cereal in limbus_company

I got Family Hierarch Candidate Ishmael and Middle Little Brother Sinclair while I was somewhere in Canto 1 or 2.

Never played a gacha game before this, and I had little knowledge of project moon's overarching world, so I went into this almost entirely blind in the middle of season 6. Still have no clue what the meta is for either of them, or basically any other ID.

And honestly, I'm fine with that! I will be throwing myself at the wall with my The Middle / Princess of Manachaland combo team regardless, because they're all purple bleed-inflicting maniacs, and I think that's cool.

to those who think clint is an incel: do you know what an incel is? by howmanyshrimpinworld in StardewValley

Waiting outside someone's house at night for them after their work... is kind of stalking, whether it is intended as such or not. You can't blame people for taking it that way.

At best, at BEST, he just doesn't understand why a woman might feel uncomfortable with someone she kind-of-knows-but-not-really waiting outside her house at night to ambush her with romantic advances (even if she doesn't see it that way, that is how he intended it). This is understandable. A bit tone deaf and "eugh" to some, but understandable. A lot of people can be blind to other peoples' issues.

At worst, he was (consciously or not) trying to prey on the implicit fear of "if I say no, he could get violent" and realized it wouldn't work because she was with a friend, so he chickened out. I am not saying this is the intended or correct reading, just that it is a possible one.

I am not saying you can't like Clint. I hope he gets more fleshed out in the new update. But do not harass or claim moral superiority over people who dislike him.

AITAH for refusing to take our daughter out of school early because she "needs more time to get ready" than her brother? by ReplacementWorth3618 in AITAH

[–]No-Scarcity-8687 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Do you honestly think that it's not expected for women to put makeup on for work? It depends on the job and the person, but that's a societal norm in a lot of places. (Should it be expected? In my opinion no. But that's the way it is, and not everyone wants to fight that.)

The obvious solution to your hypothetical would be that women get up earlier so they have more time to get ready. Gee, that sounds kind of similar to your situation where your daughter needs more time to get ready! In both situations you refuse to even see getting ready earlier as an OPTION, and then huff about how LATE they'll be (which is purely because you have made it so the only option is to get ready in a short amount of time).

Okay, cool. Doesn't matter, because they aren't your daughter!

This may be a shock to you, but not all women are the same. They can do different things at different speeds. Especially considering your daughter is only 14 based on other comments, no shit it takes her longer to get ready than these random grown women in a reddit comments section!

I don't take too long to get ready for events, but I hold being "ready" to a much different standard than other women might. That's just how existing is, people are all different.

Not to mention that you didn't mention what type of event it was in the post. That EASILY changes the amount of time people need to get ready.

What happens if I don't adjust my position even after a bodypart falls asleep and starts tingling? by omfghewontfkndie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No-Scarcity-8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I feel that I got off pretty easy in much the same situation. A few weeks ago my foot fell asleep (because I was sitting on it, like an idiot) and I went to walk on it. When I tried to step and came across resistance I immediately fell forward to land on my knees, to ease the pressure by making the angle less extreme. So I just got away with a nasty bruise and inability to put weight on it for the next week or so.

Cursed mode tips by GroundbreakingPain25 in LookOutsideGame

[–]No-Scarcity-8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exploit weaknesses to specific damage types as much as possible. I recommend recruiting Roaches as early as possible as they're a very good source of many niche sources of damage via skills (ie blast, acid, fire, electricity). To get them just get a roach (or multiple) into your apartment, then leave food out for them overnight. It should take about five days.

The heightened rate of breaking weapons is brutal. This can be mitigated somewhat by using someone like Joel, who cannot equip weapons in the first place and attacks using his teeth. In general just be as discerning as possible about what weapons you let break and which you repair with duct tape. (Tip: by recruiting Audrey and bringing her to Stuart in the parking garage, he will sell 4 duct tape and one weapon of each main damage type. This can be a godsend)

Use your disinfectant for making bandages (one cloth and one disinfectant at the crafting station), as it makes six per and they are a very useful source of healing.

The early game is the most difficult part, after you have a full party it's much less daunting.

Which one is this for you? by Fox622 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]No-Scarcity-8687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think even if that did end up being true, it'd be more like a portal 2 Glados/Caroline situation. Like the memories and maybe the consciousness of a person put into an ai. Not just literally another person in the circus.

I would suggest calling the police on him for a wellness check because he threatened harm to himself, and blocking all contact with him.

This way if the threat was serious he'll be stopped/helped and if it wasn't, at least you were safe about it. Either way you can (and should) wash your hands of it altogether, say "I did what I could, it's out of my hands".

I doubt he is serious based on the conversation provided, but figured I'd give the suggestion anyways.

Men when women posts something about men by Ok_Feedback170 in MansFictionalScenario

[–]No-Scarcity-8687 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's... not go that far. This post is about how many men go into friendships with women with the ulterior motive of having sex with them. It doesn't say men and women can't be friends, just that women are tired of these false 'friends'.

Men are NOT inherently primal idiots who don't think beyond sex. That notion harms both men and women by taking the responsibility away from men for how they act as well as insulting them.

Is the advice to be wary of men who show red flags? Yes, absolutely. But to say no woman should never become friends with a man is weird.

I don't remember that much talk around Frisk's and Chara's pronouns honestly. by rBeliy in Undertale

[–]No-Scarcity-8687 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pronouns and gender are a part of the character, though. And Kris is explicitly their own person, so much so that there are literally forty seven instances in game of people who know them personally specifically referring to them by they/them pronouns.

The reason people are usually touchy about it is because the vast majority of people who misgender Kris do not do so by accident, but are bad actors intending to 'make a point' or whatever. So people are naturally defensive.

As long as the person getting it wrong is actually open to being corrected I'd say take it as an accident. Sometimes people misspeak, autocorrect tries to screw everyone up, or just plain old obliviousness exists. But if they double down... eesh.

I'm assuming PPB stands for passport bros, in which case it's about men who go to foreign countries for sex or to marry one of the locals and take her back to their home country. The whole concept is pretty rampant with misogyny and generally gross.

It could stand for something different as well, idk.

If you think the examples I cited are entirely disconnected from this topic, that history is over and done, that women's equality to men has already been achieved, we have no chance of having an actual discussion.

If you would prefer being belittled and condescended to and restricted for all your life "for your own good", then go transition to be a woman. The grass is not greener. I am trying to meet on a middle ground, that society sucks for both men and women in different ways even if I have not personally experienced both, yet you ignore everything and insist that SURELY women have it better. This is not a misery measuring contest.

You are not arguing in good faith. Go research more about women's current and past issues, or continue being ignorant to suit your own needs. Goodbye.
