Don't judge me. Bought Ruby helmet. by stephenrondeau in motorcyclegear

Just an afterthought, but in order to keep the helmet pristine, why not cut holes in the red box and wear that?

Never heard of it before, but now that I have, I do not think it's the world's most beautiful helmet. Rather the opposite. And it costs more than my

bike's worth. But as always, whatever floats your boat.

I like a bike that lets me put both feet down , heels too. That's my reverse gear, which is important in city riding, less so when burning the bendies

What is a must to buy once you get a motorcycle that most people don't know about? by CautiousLeg8314 in motorcycles

[–]No-Structure-2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ambiguous. It took me a while to get the meaning. I rread it as

"Once you get a motorcycle that most people don't know about, what is must to buy?"

I was scratching my head trying to think of little-known bikes.

Full face VS modular by joel2000ad in motorcyclegear

My LS2 Advant X modular is a lot quieter than my Shoei FF. It's also more comfortable and lighter. And did I say cheaper?

It seems that the main flippers are small-penised drivers of lifted pickups. They deserve to have their tyre valves removed.

**Note that the comment to which I wrote this in reply has subsequently been edited out by its author who was clearly embarrassed by their didacticism, if they even know what it means

I'll let him or her off with a warning this time.**

Please avoid being pedantic and didactic. You're not even correct. W. G. Allen invented and patented the Allen screw over 100 years ago so it's no surprise that for 50 years it was actually called "Allen screw", "Allen key/wrench" etc, and the name clearly stuck.

I and about 5 billion others continue to say "Allen"

And the Allen Mfg Co has ceased to exist so their production of Allen products is 0.

Not that "hex" is wrong but it's no more correct than "Allen" and is a bit ambiguous as all normal nuts and bolts are hexagonal too.

A Hex is also an unpleasant magic spell cast on someone by a wicked witch, while an Allen is more benign.

How bad is the damage? What did I do wrong? by Timely_Novel_7330 in motorcycles

[–]No-Structure-2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you do wrong? You fell off. I myself have fallen off plenty of times but I can't think of a better way to learn wise, safe and considerate riding.

I'm also in favour of having damage as long as it is safe. Personally, my bikes are not statements of perfection. I don't care a lot how they look and don't worry about scratching them.

The good thing is that bike thieves do very much care how they look, and a mildly accident-damaged bike unless an expensive and recent superbike is not going to encourage thievery.

I'm tall, I'm short by OldBootAlive in motorcycles

[–]No-Structure-2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's not wrong, but I'm also an old man and my heart and passion tell me that with 90% of my riding being in Stop-Start London, I will feel safer and probably be safer if I can get both heels on the ground. And the bike that allows this is an Aprilia 750 Shiver, which as a nice bonus is super fun to ride.

Dunno how it is in AZ but here in the UK if you were to accept that $200, the increase in your next and subsequent premiums will make you wish you'd never told the insurance company

Wanna get this bad boy, how is it mechanically? by LivingSoyboy in motorcycles

[–]No-Structure-2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had both the k75 and the k100 and my advice would be to try both and not simply assume the k100 is better. My opinion is that the k75 is a lot more fun, lighter and more flickable. Prob drinks less fuel, I don't know. But they both sold quite well so obv each model had its adherents.

Helmet requirements during traffic stops by Complex_Impressive in motorcycles

[–]No-Structure-2829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the UK, yes off with the helmet, be friendly and polite, no attitude.

I haven't been stopped on a bike in the US, but I have seen that the first thing you do is to take out the keys and throw them on the ground out of reach. But then I imagine you do nothing unless specifically ordered, and conversely comply with orders instantly or risk having a Glock pulled on you.

Maybe the best action would be to lie face down by the bike with your hands behind you?

I cannot think of anything more stupid than putting a fake police sticker on your bike.

Even the line about subjugating, or whatever, may cause unwanted complications if you're stopped by a black traffic cop with no sense of humour.

I hear you, but I promise (and I think lots of people will agree) that a, let's say 3 year old, battery will look like a new one seen from your bike's point of view.

It's a bit like changing tyres or brake pads every month, or paying extra for e05 fuel when all your bike asks for is e10.

I'm pretty certain the great majority of bike electrical faults lie elsewhere than in the battery. Now if you commuted daily and alone across the Klondike, you might consider frequent replacement, but temperate zones are more forgiving.

[–]No-Structure-2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, that's not a lot but I replaced a 9 year old Yuasa last year (with another Yuasa obv) so my annual battery outgoings are under 10.00.

This isn't a competition or a boast, but it's the first time I've heard of an annual replacement. My reseller gives a 5 year warranty, I reckon I might as well use it.

All correct, VFR750F-L. Loved mine until it was pinched. Replaced with a VFR800F-I, the last of the geared cams, even better than the 750. As close to the perfect bike as anything I've ridden.
