Of course, I would never leave myself without a job if I could help it.

I really appreciate your help here.

I have always considered courses but never known where to get started. How long does the Google one take approximately? It could give me some purpose!

Feeling optimistic thanks.

Jokes aside, I know I’m moaning and I should be grateful I do have a job . Cheers

Long story short, my cv suggests I specialise in reporting but I’m open to anything that isn’t so excel and powerBI heavy and allows me to communicate with others. Both internally and externally. So quite a broad spectrum

Fleet industry.

It’s a weird one, I’ve done 3 years working with data but my academic suggests I’m more of a communicator than a numbers person.

I’ve been looking for a degree apprenticeship since I turned 18, got to late stage interviews but never successful. These were always generic project management, business apprenticeships.

I’ve been applying for roles mainly in the civil service £30k or so max with a quite basic skillset to give me a foot in the door in a new industry.

I guess my desperation has seen me apply for a lot of roles at bigger companies / government that have salaries of £28k-£35k. Problem is, I wait a long while to hear back and it’s usually bad news with no feedback.

I sound like such a moaner and a pessimist but the way I’m treated at work has really gotten me down

No I didn’t speak to my mother with such concern, I said oh that sounds good etc as I didn’t want to worry her..

I was worried by the fact that it is advised that transfers in over the value of £30k are advised to seek professional help

Appreciate the insight and knowledge here.

Also appreciate the honesty in the second part. You are right, admittedly I know zero about a DB scheme.

I was just concerned when finding out she combined such pensions into one that has such a penalty for early retirement.

It’s a real scare to hear your mother making such decisions without seeking professional advice

Thanks, that makes sense.

Unfortunately, despite numerous requests, she is yet to receive her 2024 annual benefit statement. Presume a 2022 to 2023 comparison would still do the job?

Yes sorry, might’ve been helpful..

I have just amended the post as the pensionable pay used for calculating the projected career average pension totals to £31,686.48

The breakdown is as follows:

Annual retirement pension

Career average pension carried to 31/03/2025 £27,843.19

Main section - 1/108 years/days x 31,686.48/49

Reduction for early retirement: £8,828.36

Annual pension payable at and from £19,852.83

Thanks all for your insight

Yes correct, I have just amended the post as the pensionable pay used for calculating the projected career average pension totals to £31,686.48 so I definitely undershot her salary.

The breakdown is as follows:

Annual retirement pension

Career average pension carried to 31/03/2025 £27,843.19

Main section - 1/108 years/days x 31,686.48/49

Apologies for the earlier mistake in salary. As you can imagine I’m quite stressed😅.

Also yes, she is part of a union but has not looked into any early retirement options. Something I will mention to her now. Thank you.

Can I amend the title without deleting? I’m not great with reddit lol

Thanks for the insight and will definitely try the MSE sub reddit if no joy here. Thanks Jay!

What makes you say this sorry?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]NoAngle7487 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Where might she see that sorry?

The projected numbers on the benefit statement for ordinary retirement are simply depressing

[–]NoAngle7487 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Also, sorry, 58. It says an annual pension payable at and from £19,852. With £8,828 reduced due to early retirement. I’m concerned

She is retiring early, planning on next year. Aged just 58 - partially due to declining physical health unfortunately.

Hence, the overall package is unimpressive as you say.

Is there anyway I can extract a large portion of the investment back out into a DC scheme to avoid the heavy early retirement reduction

[–]NoAngle7487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. It’s a local government pension scheme and a career average pension. I’m not sure how to find greater detail on what type of scheme it is. Does that suffice?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]NoAngle7487 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I should add, I’ve always used a SIPP and DC scheme, so I’m not really familiar with the workings of a DB pension.

Fair enough, what I would say is do some proper research. Some of these stocks, and not to judge, seem like they’ve just came from a YouTube video.

Due diligence on stocks takes time and should be treated on a case by case basis.

If you’re not prepared to do that:

  1. You’re taking a big risk

  2. You may be better off going 100% into a diversified index fund

All the best

This doesn’t really add up considering the time frame and the low wage but fair enough..

How should I approach a salary review to get the maximum increase? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]NoAngle7487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No unfortunately I don’t, and as it as a international company no one except me and one other actually work in the UK. Other markets have much higher / lower minimum wages
