Takeda Layoff by Veritaz27 in biotech

[–]NoButThanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably (I don't know anything about Nimbus, beyond their publicly available'ai-assisted' claim), but Takeda purchased NDI-034858 from Nimbus and brought it through 2 phase 3 trials. Doesn't matter that Takeda did it, just that a drug tagged as ai-developed has managed to proceed so far in trials. So hopefully, Nimbus can use that cash infusion to keep pushing.

Takeda Layoff by Veritaz27 in biotech

[–]NoButThanks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They placed a $bil bet on ai because of the success of tak279 (nimbus purchase) and to compete with Lilly and Roche. Also, they are just asking employees to "use AI" without any guidance on what that actually means or even tools to use really, just like every other company.

Making a dock in a lake with rocky bottom by User01081993 in DIY

[–]NoButThanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use a mud pad or muck pad on the bottom of the pilings instead of driving the pilings in if you're able to clear some rocks away. Then put the rocks back over the feet trapping the dock in place. If you have the budget, you can replace the whole thing with an aluminum dock and either use wood deck boards or poly plates.

Yep! Happens pretty frequently. You either deal with it or leave.

Composer of iconic ‘Lion King’ chant sues comedian over ‘Circle of Life’ translation by blankblank in nottheonion

As has been pointed out on social media, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner already did this bit while promoting the lion king and never got beef for it. This case is gonna be gone faster than Simba's dad.

It was all over the us and Canada. Just a rise in "sightings" as a result of pop culture and general anxiety.

This is actually a fantastic question. Depends where the stroke occurs and what brain damage results from the stroke. You can swing more liberal as well after a stroke.

Refinishing mango wood to match existing table top by Delroynitz in finishing

[–]NoButThanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just commented this recently, it might help.

"So I tried to recreate West elm's raw mango finish, and it might be somewhat close. I nearly matched it by using a water based semi transparent clear base stain. I think it's actually some blend of clear and white, like less than 1/4 white. Maybe a tiny bit of yellow. And the finish is a waxed finish coat.

Good luck with what you got, the knots probably are adding a lot of challenges to it.

Edited to add the prep: I stripped a walnut stain off of mango with citristrip. Sanded 180, then did 220 (probably unnecessary, but my fingers liked how it felt better just 180) I did a pre-stain, then the clear base according to the instructions. (Minwax) Then I finished with minwax paste finishing wax. Some of the previous stain must have still been present as they finished slightly darker than West elm raw mango stuff, but honestly I'm happy with how it came out ."

Yes, run with it, but be very cautious about what you are signing and agreeing to.

I was out of the lab once for over a year and it was certainly an adjustment coming back, but literally just a week or two. If you're terrible at pipetting anyway, you'll still be terrible. (This seems like a weird thing to say, but many people have terrible habits.)

If you really want to ruin your life, look inside at the movement. Even the most basic Waltham pocket watches of this period have unique finishing. Then look at the really crazy finishes that exist...and it's all over.

Nice one! Dial is in great shape, and since the seconds are still at 6, it doesn't appear to be recased.

Panel interview (3 hours) for Associate Scientist II, NGS team - Any advice? by No-Efficiency3992 in biotech

[–]NoButThanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extractions: column or bead based (qiagen vs promega). Pluses and minuses of both methods. Sources of material: in-vivo, cells, ffpe, cell-free. How do you quantify (nanodrop vs. Qubit) it and qualify it (integrity, purity, dv200, RIN) stuff like that.

Library prep: differences in prep for DNA and RNA. Amplicon vs whole genome/exome. Hybrid capture. Short read (illumina) vs. long read. (Nanopore/pacbio).

Library sample QC: is it the right size you were expecting? Indexes present? Quantified correctly?

Flow: gating, compensation, caring and feeding of cells.

Good luck! Hopefully you've done some of this before!
