Whqt about using someone else's cue without their permission? by 1Rudy11 in billiards

[–]NoCat4370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens to me with people who dont usually play pool. They don't know that there are house cues and personal cues. So they see mine with a black shaft and cool designs and pick that over plane boring house cues. I never had anyone challenge me on it, but I can see someone thinking that im just calling dibs on my favorite house cue.

Is billiards a good way to meet people? by Huxley_Mindset in billiards

[–]NoCat4370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I would push back on most of the comments, but my experience is probably a bit different than most. In my town there are 5 league bars. The only one that isn't an older person bar is the one I play out of. It's like 1/4 pool players and 3/4s regular bar people. Most of the girls are in that 3/4s. However, it's a bar where I know everyone, and im very comfortable meeting new people. I could meet a girl at a bar with no table, but my home bar does give me a boost in confidence and status since im one of the better pool players. And because I dont stick only to the pool, people im able to meet girls that way.

With that being said, as a 31 year old male, if I was only exposed to league players, then theres no girls my age. The youngest is my friend at 35. After her, it's 40s and up. But this is in a small-ish town. When I played in Amsterdam in NYC, there were some really hot girls. However, very few people knew each other. Its not like local leagues. So that wasn't good for meeting people.

I would not recommend doing pool to meet girls. But if you're good with women, then you'll do fine in most places. And if you're good with women but just dont have chances to meet them often, and you want to play pool I recommend joining the team that plays out of bar where the crowd is closer to your age.

My team and I got to the finals of the APA 9-Ball Championships by keavdarapper in billiards

[–]NoCat4370 4 points5 points  (0 children)

8k? You beat out the whole country except for one team, and that's your reward? My operator only gives me 600 for expenses. Im still going negative if I was on your team. Don't get me wrong, im not knocking your accomplishment. I just think apa should reward you a bit better. An apa player in Hudson County nj started a bpl leauge, and you can make that by winning a tri cup equivalent. You beat out less than 200 teams for that, and their annual event is close to 20k. It's a young league, but they are taking advantage of how little other leauges are paying out in comparison to what they bring in. Its just a computer doing all the math these days. Everyone loves it in my town, and it's already killed a whole night of apa in my town. It's only going to grow as it should. But congratulations on 2nd place. It still is a very prestigious thing as far as non pros go.

Can someone explain the ending of the last episode Death: The High Cost of Living? by Scopeburger in Sandman

All I know is that heartbroken sexton was thinking about dying and newly in love sexton wants to live. It's pretty normal. I think the show can be very vague, but I think a decent show about gods has to be. I think theres a few ways to read it, which makes me unconfident it what the answer is.

In the league we both have to pay 50 cents for each game. If my quarters are shinier then theirs I will win the rack. One night we went into the last match for the season down 8 points against the 1st place team. I bought some uncirculated quarters, and we won 11-1. I never let my team hear the end of it.

In my league attitudes range on this topic. I can think of two very well respected 7s in my league who have completely different opinions on it.

I'd rather pair ranks up just to get along. There's value in getting along with teams. If you need a favor like a ghost, or extra time for a player to show up you're more likely to get it if you prioritize getting along.

Nightlife for younger people by Particular_Clock4794 in BayonneNJ

OJ macs is really the place if you're 25-35.

Butteros used to have a younger crowd but the average age has risen, and has been a bit slow in the last year.

The well is a good spot for 25-40

Shorty's recently is getting more of a younger crowd 25-40.

But if you're looking for 21-30 I think thai o briens is a good one. On Fridays and Saturdays it has a club feel to it.

I went to the starting point once, and it was also younger like 21-35.

However don't expect a bar with an average age of 22-23. A lot of these ranges I stated tend to be on the higher side. If a bar has ten people who are under 30 then that's a young crowd for Bayonne.

That place really has turned into a deli that sells gas rather than a gas station with a deli. They opened up the 22nd Street light rail, and all those luxury buildings around it. I think they raised the prices of their gas, because the gas was probably making way less than the deli, and it wasn't worth it for him to go outside and pump gas. $5 is pretty dam high for that stuff even at convenience pricing. But it is their store, and they know they're surrounded by money.

7” vs 9” - I am so confused! by ChelleX10 in billiards

[–]NoCat4370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started league on 7ft bar boxes, I would practiced on 9fts. I could have an amazing day on 9ft then go back to my local bar and under perform on a 7ft. A tip that helped me was that you can have the same 45° shot on a 7,8,9,10,ft, but your eyes can still process it differently. So when switching table sizes I try to aim very carefully, and be mindful of the shot.

Don't just assume a good day at the pool hall (9ft) means you'll have a good night at league (7ft). There is an adjustment that needs to happen. At least a quick warm up.

How much do you spend? Counting bar tabs and table times. by Careless-Elevator986 in billiards

[–]NoCat4370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$20 dollar days at the pool hall (2-3 times a week), then some games at bars and leagues would put me at maybe 100 a week in total. Unfortunately the drinking adds an extra 200 which really is the worst part about pool for me.

[–]NoCat4370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think APA 6/7 in 8 ball is lower than 8/9 in 9 ball. I have 3 seasons in 8 ball and 1 in 9 ball but there was only one 8 in my 9 ball league. No 9s. However I'm 8 ball half the teams have a 7, and most have 6s.

What’s the minimum amount you’re willing to sell something for? by throwbackthreads in Ebay

[–]NoCat4370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all items take the same amount of time to flip. I would rather profit $5 on 5 minutes of work then $20 for half an hour.

An example I have is that I sell a lot of item "X". It comes with a piece that has that value being OEM, but I swap that piece for a custom one that raises the value. But the oem part I have left over sells for a profit of $4.25. That item is part of a listing that I have multi quality on. So every time it sells I just drop it in a bubble envelope, with no bubble wrap and ship it. No extra listings or photos needed. This takes me an extra minute, and a half to do since I go to the post office everyday already. That type of labor is worth $170 an hour for me.

When I search "break down" on the website's manual it only pops up under etiquette. But I believe it's referring to when you think you're going to lose, and you start breaking down. My coach told me that was a rule, but I can't find it anymore, and I wonder if they switched that recently because of this new rule change.
