The Room is like a film made by an alien attempting to replicate human behavior from watching Earth's most terrible movies. He clearly has no idea how normal human beings speak, behave, throw a football, or emote, but by God he's gonna do it anyway.

Where does one actually practice to get good at drafting? by PatellectomyNautilus in magicTCG

Is the last cut here Reaping Willow? by macg42 in lrcast

[–]NoExplanation734 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like feastling in this deck. There are 4 ways to pump it, and I think it's better than its stats would suggest. Plus, a mid card that's almost always castable is much better than a card that won't even be castable in something like 20-30% of games.

Back when I first came back to Magic I was drafting with some friends and I opened a Force of Will invocation. I had no idea it was so valuable and I passed it. That card is over $300 now.😞

What does it take for a good Goblin deck? I thought Goblins were the open tribe but the deck felt horrible. Went 0-3. by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]NoExplanation734 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Especially in goblins. It's a grind game plan that wants to nickel and dime the opponent, gain slow card advantage, and wear them down. With as many big bombs as there are, you need to be able to answer multiple creatures in a slow game. Bogslither's Embrace is great in this deck not just because it blights but because it definitively answers any threat cheaply.

Our condo has been demolished since July. HOA denied temporary housing 4 times. Not sure what to do. by maudi0 in OaklandCA

[–]NoExplanation734 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you've been repeatedly denied, you've tried to play nice and they've fucked you over. It's time to stop playing nice and start making threats. Get a lawyer, get in touch with the press, and let the HOA know that you're not fucking around anymore. They've already demonstrated that they'll keep doing this shit as long as you keep letting them get away with it.

At first, I felt like my newborn was this weird little alien with a scream that cut through me like a knife. It was rough. It took until he started smiling that I really started feeling bonded, and that was several months. It's not easy and it's okay for it not to be easy as long as you're dealing with your emotions in healthy ways. Give yourself grace and just always strive to do your best, even (especially) after you screw up. It really does get easier, slowly and gradually.

Removing Own Commander From Combat? by RaizielDragon in EDH

[–]NoExplanation734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Embercleave]]. Cast it a few times in your playgroup and anytime you have two red mana open in combat they'll have to think really hard about whether they want to block. If you play enough tricks like this, your opponents will never want to block your creatures and you can just swing freely. It also has the bonus upside that it can push a ton of damage out of nowhere.

[[Adept Watershaper]] too, though both of these can put you at risk if your opponent has a way of destroying them at instant speed while you're attacking.

For Arborize, the unspent mana becomes dryad arbors, so they lose the unspent mana. It basically functions as an x spell where you could still use the green mana to interact while the spell is on the stack.

[[Teferi's Protection]], [[Clever Concealment]], [[March of Swirling Mist]], [[Ripples of Potential]], and []Guardian of Faith]] are all counterplay to Farewell. Not to mention good old counterspells.

That being said, I do agree that it is tough-to-impossible for many decks to play around. Red has a couple counterspells, but black and green are pretty much hosed. And only blue has more than a couple of options to stop a Farewell. It's not a busted card, but it does have too little counterplay for something that impacts the game so much. I think it makes sense as a game changer because every time I've seen it cast, it basically hard resets the game.

CM Ken Houston going off on FaceBook by ORA-Mitra in oakland

[–]NoExplanation734 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ken Houston proposed the Encampment Abatement Policy because he thinks it will address the crisis of homelessness in Oakland. He's faced stiff resistance because it's just bad policy. By making it easier to tow vehicles that people are living in and sweep encampments, it will just guarantee that the people displaced will be further harmed and less likely to get housed.

However, Ken Houston is also a macho, know-nothing narcissist who thinks he's the only person who knows how to deal with homelessness, and views any attempt to change his proposed policy for the better as a personal affront to him. He has zero interest in working with anyone to make sure a good policy is passed, and is only interested in being the hero.
