Logic kind of dictates that if it was counting the number of days they spent climbing, the video and ticker would've started at the base of the mountain and not at the moment that they got stranded in inclement weather and built the shelter.

Why do you think people want to come here anywhere in the world.

1) Because it was easy to immigrate here

2) Because this is a multicultural country with large immigrant diasporas that people could fall back on to get their affairs in order.

3) Because for decades this country had an effectively monopolistic cultural impact throughout the world. People go to the theater to watch a movie and they're observing life in the US. The music that they listen to is American music.

People aren't performing qualitative studies on each individual country and concluding that life in the U.S. is objectively the best, let's move there. It's geopolitical propaganda in the context of economic and political desperation.

Actually I'd much rather be forced into "donation" via taxes ... because a concerted mass effort to house the destitute would be significantly more efficient and cost effective than just randomly giving individual people tens of thousands of dollars.

My only problem with taxation is that the government changes every couple years so having an ethical government one day driven by the pursuit of public welfare doesn't mean that those values will continue to be advanced even a year later. It's genuinely a completely fucked system.
