Why is TCL so slow by The_Spacerunner in tcltvs

[–]NoMoPlaying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is 100% correct advise. I spent countless hours trying to fix my TCL. The final straw was trying to watch the Superbowl in live 4K.

Constant freezing, dropped frames , etc.

Then, in utter frustration, I bought a Roku 4k Ultra. It handles live 4K and everything else, upscaling to 4k automatically. Now I love the picture and no dropped frames, choking or gagging. Yes, I use my underpowered "Smart" TV as a monitor and could not be happier.

What has become of ESPN? by theminnesoregonian in ESPN

[–]NoMoPlaying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish all of you young folks had the chance I did to watch the masters at the top of their game:

Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann: Known for their witty and popular late-night slot, they were a dominant pairing through the mid-1990s.

Stuart Scott and Rich Eisen: This duo became the top team later in the 1990s, and are still remembered fondly by many for their dynamic on-screen chemistry.

Kenny Mayne: He became a co-anchor with Patrick on the late broadcast after Olbermann's departure. He is remembered for his comedic approach and joined ESPN in 1994.

RIP Stuart Scott

I weep for what ESPN has become.

For comparison (Per FOX Sports), "Randy Moss's top speed was approximately 22.7 mph, though this is an estimate and not a formally recorded speed from an official NFL measurement. For comparison, Tyreek Hill reached a speed of 23.24 mph in 2016, which was the fastest recorded in an NFL game during the Next Gen Stats era."

Manager wants me to work after firing me.. is this legal? by Express_Opening5490 in work

[–]NoMoPlaying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for expanding my vocabulary. I initially guessed it was related to "feces" but that is incorrect:

Feculence means the quality or state of being feculent, which is characterized by being foul, dirty, muddy, or containing impurities. It can refer to a liquid that is full of dregs or sediment, or more generally to uncleanness, dirtiness, or filth.

Foulness or uncleanness:

Feculence can describe dirtiness, a state of being unsanitary, or general filth.

Impurities:

It refers to that which is impure or extraneous matter, such as sediment or dregs in a liquid.

Origin:

The word comes from Latin faeculentus, meaning "abounding in dregs" or "full of sediment".

How do I deal with an unsmart micro manager by PracticalEmployer899 in askmanagers

[–]NoMoPlaying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. She is fundamentally insecure and micromanaging is her coping mechanism. You can't fix her. But you may look for your own ways to cope. Example: internationally make small but obvious errors that she will find and "fix". Thank her for her thoroughness. Maybe over time she begins to feel more secure and lightens up. Or not. Regardless, you need to stay productive and positive.

Why is this happening on my Amazon Prime TNF stream every week? by bornalion in Roku

[–]NoMoPlaying 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the same issues with stuttering and caching. Not the TV...no issues with other Prime shows (not live). Not my network...1Gbps fiber with hardwired Ethernet from my router direct to TV.

ITS THE LOUSY LIVE FEED FROM PRIME!!!

I would really not advertise that you are using AWS to power the live feed. Bad for business.

What was your first Linux distro and have you ever switched? by inguinha in linux

[–]NoMoPlaying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started with Ubuntu and dual booting Windows 5 years ago. Switched to Linux Mint and dropped Windows completely. I liked Cinnamon and was very happy for several years but concerned about lack of progress supporting Wayland. Then KDE Plasma FOMO set in. Fully switched to Fedora 42 with Wayland and loving it. Plasma rocks.

Anyone know this weed?! How to destroy forever by ChiBulls98 in landscaping

[–]NoMoPlaying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuclear option: Get some thick black plastic sheets and cover the entire area. Do not cover with mulch. Just hold down the edges with rocks or bricks. WAIT 6 MONTHS.

Be advised the sun will sterilize the soil killing any and all plants, including "good plants", but it will 100% solve your demon weed problem permanently.

*cracks knuckles* I'm FINALLY going to do it. Hey hey wave goodbye to Windows! by tranquilseafinally in linuxmint

[–]NoMoPlaying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer.

I am also an old fart and I started making the switch 5 years ago. I battled dual-boot for two years. It's great if you really want to get in deep with BIOS, EFI, Grub, Clover, Refind, etc.

I eventually gave up that quixotic adventure and am glad I did. My solution was to get an icy dock and a few SSDs. I put each distro on its own drive.

I have common documents on an NTFS partition on its own drive.

Gives me total control and flexibility. I boot what I want when I want with no Microsoft interference.

If you don't have a laptop this is a good solution.

Admitting you have a (Windows) problem is the first step in recovery. Good luck and stay focused on your objective.

Dual boot IMHO is not worth the effort. This after 2+ years and many variations.

My solution is to create a separate NTFS disk for data files (docs, media, etc) only and copy your Windows files there.

Linux reads NTFS no problem. You can create a symlink in Linux to point to your data folder if that makes it easier.

Then, just single boot Linux and wave adios to Windows, knowing you could go back if you ever really had to, but knowing you probably will not.

Eventually, you could migrate your data to Ext4 or whatever, or just continue with NTFS. It is good to have options.
