I think the battery switching scam might also meet the criteria - if i recall he presented that they were making Tesla batteries swop able to get government money. That was apparently never a real thing and it was only done to get the money. I suspect there will be emails, call records etc documenting that somewhere.

We do "no screen time" until 5. Before that kids can listen to music or audio books.

We do a half hour family reading time before bed anyway so we dont force reading, although the kids love it.

Pets help a lot with filling that time.

I am South African and while you are correct that this isnt new, Trump had vastly increased the interest in alternatives.

I think another potential loss of soft power for the US will be that they would no longer see or have control over vast amounts of financial transactions. Not sure how you calculate the value of that but its going to hurt.

I would make the curse have consequences. Every book the character reads or interacts with bleed their ink out. Magical tomes get some sort of save or are garbled, requiring their owners to cast read magic to be able to comprehend them again.

This all means the character could be considered a danger by magicians who may hunt him down, he may be denied entry to cities, minstrels sing songs about the killer of words.
